Winter´s coming... and me no like. After more than five months of sunshine, wearing shorts and flipflops at all times, it´s kinda hard to adjust. Today was the first day I had to put on my trusted leather jacket, while inside the heater had to be turned on again. Last Saturday, it proved still possible to enjoy lunch outside, in shirtsleeves while sporting sunglasses, but now the weather has definitely turned. Living in a mediterranean climate, it would be hard to maintain that it´s colder than a witch´s tit, or even a well digger´s ass out there, but it sure [...]

so i've just finished the third revision of my top 100 albums list - which to avoid confusion/arguments is a personal selection, not an attempt at a best of all time list - and to build some interest/excitement in the list beyond myself and the 1-2 other people that have traditionally cared about this i've decided to do a ten day countdown leading up to my number 1 album choice, vh1 best [whatever] of [decade] style. [100 - 91] 90. Nirvana- In Utero [...]
Digital single features Dead Confederate's "The Rat" (Live from Laundromatinee.com) and Meat Puppets' "Go To Your Head "(from Daytrotter's SXSW sessions)"
Ume ::: photo courtesy of Amelia Gyde Remember when you first got into music and you were just happy to be out of the house and going to shows? You had to hitch a ride because you weren't old enough to drive or got to the show early because you had an unfair curfew and [...]
Last we heard from Scott Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots , they were hitting up casinos and festivals across North America . Well, the San Diego rockers are still alive and kicking, having recently announced yet another round of tour dates. The latest trek is composed of both U.S. and Canadian dates, spanning from an appearance at Mobile, Alabama's Bayfest on October 2nd to a stop in Winnipeg on November 15th. The always fabulous Meat Puppets will be providing support on select dates. STP has also confirmed two dates for [...]

[Double-barreled birthday wishes go out Saturday to Tegan and Sara. It's Jarvis Cocker's birthday too. Now for your busy weekend, starting with two festivals:] Head east: The third annual Clean Air Clear Stars festival goes off at Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace, with a heaping helping of excellent psych-rock tonight, Saturday and Sunday. Support global cooling. Head south: For family fun and a side order of good local music, there's the Lobster Festival at the Port of Los [...]

It's almost like the Meat Puppets never left. This week, they kick off their longest string of tour dates in the band's history, hammering out the most shows they've played in a year since 1994. This video accompanies the single "Rotten Shame" from their kick-ass new album Sewn Together , out now on Megaforce. It has a jerky, homemade feeling and the appearance of beat-up 8mm film, combining a stage performance with surreal images of poolside antics and road trips. This is quintessential MTV fare... that is, if it were 1994 and MTV still had a reason [...]

Ever since the Meat Puppets' return, they've been busy touring, touring, touring. The latest leg of their tour is apparently the longest they've ever been on (you'd think that would've happened in 1994, no?). Anyway, the band's trek brings them all over North America, including the Bowery Ballroom on the day before Thanksgiving (November 25). Check out all the dates after the jump. Meat Puppets tour dates: Dates marked ** with Dead Confederate Sept 16 - Marquee Theater, Tempe, AZ** Sept 17 - Belly Up Tavern - Solana Beach, CA** Sept 18 [...]
Not the Meat Puppets , too - piecing together B-roll live footage of varying quality into a "music video." The recession strikes again! Meat Puppets - Rotten Shame

[MP3] The Grates - "Burn Bridges" [MP3] Those Darlins - "Red Light Love" Do you like Those Darlins ? How about King Khan ? No? How about now Australia-expats The Grates ? Still no huh? How about Meat Puppets? You hate them? No way. Impossible. Fine then how about Dr. Dog ? Ok now we're talking. The Grates will be co-headlining this craziness of a tour with Those Darlins, featuring performances with all the aforementioned bands. Pure [...]
It's one thing for the Meat Puppets to rise from the ashes and give the public a story to cheer about. It's another thing when the Arizona outfit refuses to milk it for all it's worth and instead hit the road like men half their age, and with a ferocity and skill set like never before. The brothers Kirkwood, both nearing 50, will start slow with a dozen gigs in September, break for much of October (unless they decide to further destroy themselves with a slew of other dates), and slam through nearly a show a [...]

After playing a few shows with Stone Temple Pilots the other weekend, Meat Puppets have set additional tour dates, mostly on the west coast. Most of these shows are with like-minded rockers Dead Confederate, and come nowhere near New York City. Check out all scheduled Meat Puppets dates after the jump. Meat Puppets tour dates: Dates marked * with Dead Confederate. Sept 5 - Club Congress, Tuscon, AZ Sept 16 - Marquee Theater, Tempe, AZ* Sept 17 - Belly Up Tavern - Solana Beach, CA* Sept 18 - El Rey [...]
The ever-brill truth-or-bullshit website Snopes reports on a forwarded email satire piece which "reports" that the US presidency is being outsourced to India. Apparently a lot of people are wondering if it's actually true. Snopes' estimable researcher Barbara Mikkelson writes: As we've noted on many occasions, really good satire hews a fine line between plausibility and absurdity, so it's not surprising we often receive "Is this true?" inquiries about satirical articles that circulate widely via e-mail the receipt of an out-of-context, news-like article with a premise that seems vaguely credible with a quick read-through [...]
Dan Harris , ABC News fanboy of the Meat Puppets does a two-parter on Tempe, AZ's rocker brothers. It's very cool - rare footage, present day interviews and much more. Worth watching both clips. (Sidenote: Lots of good Amplified clips on other bands, including the baby life rock style for Mates of State . The Meat Puppets have been touring this summer, but are kicking off their new fall tour in its hometown of Tempe, AZ in September. Fall dates here . Meat Puppets 1 [...]
(photo by Matthew Rodgers) In a gripping two-part video series from Dan Harris and his web show "Amplified" for ABC News, the Lockwood brothers come clean with their past, their present and themselves. Drugs, crime, death, downward spirals, turmoil, the...

The next two Pitchfork articles feature the flowering of US Alt-Rock; these are the bands that your favourite bands love. From early '90's staples like The Pixies and Nirvana, to more recent bands like The Hold Steady and even the likes of Fleet Foxes, they were hugely influenced by the next six bands. I've split this article in two, so that you don't have a 2,000 word behemoth to trawl through 1 . Sonic Youth – Death Valley '69 Hüsker Dü – Pink Turns to Blue Meat Puppets – Plateau Of the [...]
New music from Gigamesh, Mayda releases a new video & Gospel Gossip talks to the AV Club.

It's sure been an extremely busy year for Ume. At the beginning of the year, the band took part in Emo's annual "FREE WEEK" . Then a few weeks later, they released a new EP entitled Sunshower to rave reviews ( Austin Chronicle , Austin Sound , Popmatters , and CMJ ) and played a fantastic set at The Mohawk to celebrate the new record. Then the following month in February, the trio took part in first series of Dell Lounge's "Dead Venues Live" performing "The [...]
