Chapterhouse should be broken up again by now. The vintage British shoegaze crew's reunion is only temporary and was to be ceased after the original U.S. tour ended in May. However, thanks to the Iceland volcano , Americans were afforded more time to anticipate the small string of dates. As Under the Radar informs us, the postponed May shows have been rescheduled. Ulrich Schnauss is still the support for all original cities, which now host Chapterhouse at the beginning of October. The mini-tour kicks off October 1st in Chicago, then heads to Brooklyn on [...]

[Happy Wednesday, and happy birthday Wayne Coyne ...] The Phenomenal Handclap Band are one of those acts you have to suspend your disbelief to like. When I saw them at the El Rey Theatre last year , I couldn't get past their preening hippiedom, let alone dial in to their mish-mosh of disco-folk. Some people seem to be applauding, though — the band toured Europe with Franz Ferdinand. Tonight they play at set at Origami Vinyl in Echo Park before headlining the Echo, topping a bill [...]

[Apologies for the late-arriving daily post. Something about being out late last night ...] Andy Clockwise closes out a year of winning over L.A. crowds by headlining Spaceland; Marvelous Toy and Globes on Remote support. ... It's the Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band [pictured] at the Echo, with Spirit Vine among the openers. ... Big psych-rock night at the Troubadour, featuring Baroness , Earthless and Iron Age . ... See Green — the [...]

In a way, the Meeting Places' name is perfect. Like the best of their shoegazing forebears, the L.A. quartet's music glistens in the place where fuzz-filled soundscapes meet memorable melodies. The quartet of Scott McDonald, Chase Harris, Dean Yoshihara and Arthur Chan has been an on-again, off-again proposition since early in the decade, taking a break after their promising 2006 album, "Numbered Days," but recently scored some song placements on "Gossip Girl" and set to work on new material. The surging "Millions" marries emotional atmospherics to layered swell of melody in a way that would make fans of [...]

[Happy birthday, Jonesy. We miss your jukebox ...] Keeping it very brief today: Which legend you wanna see? Patti Smith plays a free show at the Santa Monica Pier, while the Pretenders , joined by Cat Power , are at the Greek Theatre. .... Nine Inch Nails plays the second of its four SoCal shows at the Music Box @ Fonda. ... There's the 415 Records reunion show at the Knitting Factory with Wire Train , Translator and [...]
In September of 2001, four guitarists united to form The Meeting Places. Based in L.A., Scott McDonald (lead guitar), Dean Yoshihara (now playing drums), Arthur Chan (now playing bass) and Chase Harris (lead vocals and rhythm guitar). Their first album, "Find Yourself Along The Way was released in 2003 and followed by Numbered Days in 2006. And thus concludes my dry, perfunctory history of this band. To truly understand this band you must listen, watch and feel the output of this organic creation. Once again, the best shoegazeyourfuzzbloodymarychai nslowdive music may be coming exclusively out of [...]

[Have a safe holiday weekend. And raise a glass for birthday boy Robbie Robertson on Sunday.] Today: 'Tis the season ... for music outdoors. Among the many offerings around SoCal is a free concert series at Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena , where French songstress Emilie Simon [pictured] performs at 8 tonight. She's also at the Bootleg Theater on Sunday. ... There's Night 2 of the Hollywood Bowl July 4th Fireworks Spectacular too, with John Fogerty and the L.A. Phil. ... Also: [...]

[That Grammy telecast was as long as the Super Bowl — and the halftime show wasn't nearly as good. Here's a small offering of shows to assuage your awards-show hangover. I'm going to dig out some Carole King vinyl in honor of her birthday ...] Wouldn't be surprised if somebody who was in town for the Grammys sprung a secret show on us tonight, but I haven't heard about any. You have some excellent residencies from which to choose: Le Switch at Spaceland (where Vaudeville is [...]

Lush were known as a Shoegazer band and rightfully so, especially based on their earlier work - Scar EP and Spooky LP (produced by Cocteau Twins - Robin Guthrie ). Distorted walls of sound and Emma Anderson's beautiful vocals riding above the mix, this was Lush . The video below is from their 1994 Split LP which had Lush doing a more rocking, 'jagged' sound than the earlier classic shoegaze noise. Hypocrite is a classic track nonetheless and the video is fairly [...]

Los Angeles, CA I am really digging this CD from The Meeting Places . Apparently this song was even on One Tree Hill last month. I don't watch the show, but I'll take their word for it. "Hall Of Fame" The Meeting Places on MySpace

L. A. noisepoppers The Meeting Places released Numbered Days , their second full-length album, in October, continuing and extending the moody atmospherics of Find Yourself Along the Way . No doubt you will be as excited as I to know that, according to their MySpace site, they liken their sound to, and I quote, ?GzrunkkkkkSssssiissssssssbrrr gsissssssssssss...? Oh, yessssssssssssss. I am about to go to rehearsal for something that - at this point - is a secret to the entire world. Yes, I am making something. What do you ask? Oh, nothing... I really wanted to make a post today, I have been in such a good mood. Classes ended today, so tomorrow I should be able to make a more well thought out post. Basically, here are some songs I like, and stuff. Jack Penate [mp3] Second,
