"It shows off Young Empires as a group more than capable of joining the dance-floor ready elite..." Young Empires | Wake All My Youth EP If you want a little dose of 1980s nu-wave and inspired electropop with big beats, trippy, energetic vocals with compact but clever lyrics, could do much worse than wrapping your ears around Young Empires' debut EP Wake All My Youth . After a long while releasing teaser singles and snippets, the now four-piece band from Toronto have now delivered an EP on which every song is richly [...]

Photos by G. Sarah McIntosh of The Good Natured Hot band alert! The UK electropop band The Good Natured visited New York's Mercury Lounge on January 15, 2012. I'd never heard any of their music until they took the stage and I liked every song I heard tonight in their 8 song set. Their music is upbeat and has a great groove. Lead singer Sarah McIntosh's voice reminded me of bits of Ladytron and LaRoux. The audience was loving the show as well, especially when Sarah McIntosh performed in [...]

I didn't see Vancouver's Mother Mother play at Ottawa's Broson Centre for a sold out show on November 24, 2011. But I managed to do a short interview with band members Ali Siadat who plays drums and Jasmin Parker who plays keyboards and one of the singers. It was a nice interview I did with both of them. In the interview I asked: How excited for them to play in Ottawa About their European tour Favorite city in Europe they enjoyed [...]

Now that I have a great turntable and pre-amp, I've been visiting the archives to see which albums and singles deserve to be re-recorded and re-posted. Obviously, the soundtrack to Urgh! A Music War was one of the first on the list. These new recordings sound light-years better than my last attempt, and I highly recommended you download them even if you have an older copy I posted. I've talked about Urgh! several times over, so I'll keep the intro brief. It's an amazing document of a time period in music, when the punk [...]

I had the opportunity to attend the Art In The Streets exhibit that went down over in Little Tokyo over at MOCA. This exhibit, which is over three months long, boasts about the street art from the '70s, props that inspired your favorite classic hiphop movies like Wild Style and Style Wars, and then some! You can check the preface above for more of the details of what the exhibit was about. Continue Reading/View Pictures After The Jump... [...]

'Your love is mmmmm... mmmmmmm.... goooooooodddd....." - Smokey Robinson. I consider Elzhi an 'emcee's favorite emcee' , since I know that if you were to ask anyone (especially these rappers that you consider as fresh) what is their TOP 5 , 10, whatever... guaranteed to be on that list will be that Jason Powers -guy. While I patiently wait for his upcoming-and-highly-anticipate d release of ELMATIC , I'll just give you a classic drop of one of my favorite jewels from this guy. Introducing to you.... LOVE IT HERE. Remodel From: London, United Kingdom With a sound that would have been de riguer when the Jam were at the peak of their powers or at the height of the Oasis -v- Blur wars, London four piece Remodel are perfectly named. In 2010 they sound like a relic of a different age, an age when British bands knew how to write intelligent pop/punk songs that engage the brain and stir the blood. Unfortunately it's a sound that seems doomed to gather dust [...]
Josh "Deakin" Dibb is back in Animal Collective.

So, yes, in about five hours I will be officially unemployed - dosser or entrepreneur, whichever you prefer. This is the last time I can skive off and write a post when I should actually be doing something else, because in future the writing of posts will actually be legitimate business. I take the piss out of Proper Job, but contrary to what you might expect from someone changing careers entirely, I have always really enjoyed what I do. I have always needed variety in my life, and as a kid I was never able to entirely abandon [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours One of the more established bands to be playing SXSW, '70s British punk stalwarts the Members broke up in the mid '80s but reformed in 2008, releasing a single -- International Financial Crises -- early last year. We caught up with the very curt guitarist-songwriter JC Carroll. Describe your sound in your own words. The members are "the sound of the suburbs." We will always be associated with the 1979 million selling post-punk [...]
Still got snow, but the thaw is coming they promise. It just can't come fast enough.Mrs Mackerel has gone plain stir crazy, the mackerel sprats have had more time off school, and we've got stuck in the snow more times than anyone deserves. We need to get out. We need to see someone. We need some company. So, here for your weekend listening pleasure is a stonewall beauty from the Roadside Graves
My dad worked for years after his retirement. In fact, when I think about it, I don't believe he ever really 'retired' at all. He and my mom were on a fixed income, so my pop took a job with a local pharmacy delivering medications to seniors who were home bound to supplement his tiny Social Security check each month. To make matters worse, my dad's bosses at the drug store were the worst of the worst. I won't mention the business' name—Butler's Drug Store in Point Pleasant, NJ—but suffice it to say the drudgery of having [...]
It was just one of those nights... too much brisket, not enough coffee, he plays mandolin, she calls herself a "Cubist", we love them both... and yet, they make us watch this. I'm warning you, it's not pretty! and also this: Wild Child mp3 W.A.S.P. The Last Command buy it

One of my favourite songs back in 1979:- mp3 : The Members - The Sound Of The Suburbs At the time, I thought it was a great punk record and I used to play it really loud just to annoy the hell out of my old man. Looking back on it now, it was really nothing more than glorified pub-rock with a cracking shout-a-long chorus. Not all that far removed from the sort of stuff that brough fame and fortune to Sham 69 . [...]

The fans voted on MySpace and they chose this one over "Regret." Of course the titled for the song, which was originally "She Ain't Got Shit On Me," turned into this title for radio and video release. It sounds like a stomper. Meanwhile the album's been pushed back to August. Boo! Posted in Beats, Yankee Panky Tagged: ain't, destin't child, got, lady, letoya, love, luckett, me, member, new, no, on, she, shit, single

First things first - RIP Lux Interior... Now, onto the business, and this business was much, much delayed. In April of 2006 I put up the soundtrack Urgh! to much fanfare around the blogosphere (God I hate that "word") so much so that I had to get a server upgrade. Unfortunately, as it was pointed out to me several months ago those files were recorded on a turntable that spun too fucking fast. Since then I had been meaning to re-record the tracks and repost them, but life can be a bitch. Well, I [...]
Some people say that forming a band with six or seven members is too hard to keep control of and organise. Well how about doubling that number to form a supergroup. "Operation Aloha" will be the name of the band that consists of Maroon 5, Phantom Planet and Gomez, along with several other artists. A self-titled album is set for release around 12th of May and is likely to get the press coverage you might expect from a country disappearing or something. So you may be wondering how the hell this happened. Well, the bands and artists took [...]
