The Menzingers - the Scranton-bred, Philly-based punk band with heavy acclaim - joined the roster of awesome musicians who have recorded with Daytrotter yesterday. Having acquired a huge fan base, it is no surprise to see The Menzingers record at the storied Rock Island, Ill studio. You can hear their energy and talent in the ... Continue reading ’

After some plum opening spots on tour with Hot Water Music and The Gaslight Anthem, Philly punk powerhouse The Menzingers are hitting the road on a headlining tour in support of their 2012 LP On the Impossible Past. Like-minded local five-piece Restorations - the subject of this week's Unlocked showcase - will be one of ... Continue reading ’

Philadelphia punk poets The Menzingers will be returning to the UK and Ireland in August for a handful of headline dates, as well as appearances at Rebellion and Hevy Festivals. The Menzingers turned some heads in 2012 with their inspired third album On The Impossible Past , which was released just over a year ago through Epitaph. The record earned them plaudits across the board and made it into many an [...]
So on Sunday evening, we took part in the BBC 6 Music Blog Awards which was rather fun yet again. Others included this year included The 405, Punktastic, The Quietus, One For The People, For Folk's Sake, The Blue Walrus, Fresh On The Net and some by the 6 Music team themselves. The show was a raging success and it's always a pleasure to take part in. There were a few technical mix ups but hey, it wouldn't be live radio and an awards ceremony without a few of those now, would it?! To see the winners [...]

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of The Menzinger's third studio release On The Impossible Past , and a subtle reminder that I really needed to make a damn post on it already. If you know anything about The Menzingers, you know exactly what to expect on their latest album: mid-tempo, raw, anthematic tunes. Originally from Scranton, PA, The Menzingers really exploded over the past few years once they moved to Philadelphia, and it's been fun watching them evolve over the time. On The Impossible Past takes where The Menzingers left off on the critically [...]

Pennywise have rescheduled their cancelled Australian tour now that they have reunited with original vocalist Jim Lindberg. The run will also feature The Menzingers and Face to Face and the run kicks off in April.
Hot Water Music - the O.G. Gainesville, Florida punk band - brought their reunion tour to The Electric Factory on Saturday night. Opening the show was Michigan five-piece La Dispute and Philly's own The Menzingers. Check out a recap of the night in the photo gallery above. Continue reading ’

Scranton transplants turned Philly staples The Menzingers will provide the undercard for post-hardcore veterans Hot Water Music tonight at the Electric Factory. The local quartet released an unsung hero of records, On the Impossible Past , early last year on Epitaph Records. Formulating pop-punk anthems that exhibit snarly vocal grit with guitar and percussion providing clean controlled continuity while always prepared to launch a sonic assault when the emotional fire is ready to rage. The amount of news that surfaces in a 24 hour period is astronomical anymore; multiplied by 365, that's an onslaught of information we present you with during the calendar year. But some items always rise above the fold and prove to be something bigger. Here are the ten stories from The Key that drew your ... Continue reading ’

As I've mentioned on many occasions, I keep a running playlist throughout the year. You've seen bits and pieces of it here but as 2012 comes to a close, here is the final product. Full of the singles that I listened to on repeat to the tracks I put on every mixtape this year and now with the added bonus of being influenced by the year end lists of my friends and contemporaries. It's all over the place genre-wise, but I think it is a pretty solid collection. Amanda Palmer - [...]
Everyone else is doing it , so I guess that means that we need to do it too. Yes, mom, we would jump off a bridge with everyone else if they were doing it.. because, that's how we roll. So, we've broken down our lists into our favorite "national releases of 20123 and our "Nashville releases of 20123 as a No Country team. We decided to throw our best shows of 2012 into individual lists since we usually try to cover as many different events as possible. To let you have the full opportunity to absorb our gems, we are [...]
We spend a wholly inappropriate amount of time at gigs- missing all kinds of obligations, end up crawling through the next day exhausted, battered, and bruised. It's a lot of travel, standing in line, out of pocket expenses, and the occasional mediocre experience that leaves us cold. Then there are the times when you feel more alive than ever while shoved into a dive bar with a load of screaming strangers or a bearded man with an acoustic guitar makes you weep like a baby, having feelings you didn't know you were capable of. This is why we do what [...]
Here's part 4 of my list detailing my favorite records of 2012. For the first three parts of the list just click here . Many if not all of these could have probably been in my top ten based on the day. Enjoy. 20. Chris Wollard & The Ship Thieves - Canyons (No Idea) Canyons is the second full-length from Hot Water Music co-frontman Chris Wollard and his band The Ship Thieves. It’s a driving record that combines grooving Southern rock and swampy post-punk [...]

Well, it's all been leading to this. The votes are in, the results have been tabulated, calculated, and any other kind of mathematically something-lated you can think of. This is the Thrash Hits Top 20 Albums of 2012. And just how did we work this out? We took everyone's individual lists, and gave each album a score from 1 to 20 depending on how high it fell in the list. We then added up all the points, and voila - the collective list was born. In the case of a [...]

I know I waxed philosophical about the value of an album as a whole earlier this week but don't get me wrong- I treasure my iPod and it is jam packed with playlists with every theme under the sun. Including a "Best of..." for 2012. Here is the ten I've chosen from that ...pretty extensive list that has soundtracked my year. Melanie and Barlow contributed ten of their carefully cultivated choices each to help round it out and here's our official Best Tracks of 2012 . [Tiffiny] Apologies, I Have None - The [...]
