Who : Blakroc Title : Blakroc Release Date : November 27th Label : Blakroc Thoughts : With their bluesy version of rock music you wouldn't necessarily take The Black Keys as fans of hip hop, but based on their new project Blakroc (both the name of their hip hop group and new record label) the band show that they aren't just fans of the genre they have great taste in the [...]
After a lengthy hiatus, Florida's The Mercury Program return to the musical forefront with "Chez Viking," a seven-song CD/LP released by the band's new label, Lovitt Records , in Winter 2009. Formed in the summer of 1997, they have re-emerged with a bracing mix of angular guitars, rhythmic bass lines, jazz-influenced drumming, and ethereal vibraphones. The Mercury Program first started as a three-piece outfit. Their first show was on New Year's Eve in 1998 at a friend's party in Chapel Hill. The Mercury Program soon recorded two 7"s with Boxcar Records including a split [...]

No, it's more a matter of us structuring any particular song to a shape we have in mind. We're trying to execute it. We're trying to make sure it moves properly from one thing to another. The pacing of a song is more important than what we're actually playing. The actual notes we play are not so important. I have to say we don't give any consideration to the audience when writing songs. Every now [...]
