Mardi Gras Guitar Marshal: An Interview with Leo Nocentelli

Leo Nocentelli's Meters Experience @ SPACE in Chicago - Cissy Strut
"As long as we stay positive and stick together, we'll probably be doing some more shows, I don't think The Meters will ever stop playing together. The response to that show at The Howlin' Wolf says it all about what people think about The Meters in New Orleans." Yesterday, LMB NOLA got the opportunity to [...]

Music Review: Ruthie Foster - Let It Burn

Ruthie Foster's latest is a smoldering gospel kitchen of fire, rain, love, and the Almighty.

Funky New Orleans: The Meters Live

Funky New Orleans: The Meters Live Editor's Note : This is a repost of an item we ran a couple of years ago, reappearing here to help get everyone in that Mardi Gras mood. The links have been updated and the Meters are still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Radio used to be magic. When the stars aligned, and the right artist played the right venue and radio was there, it could be just beautiful. Here's one of those moments: January 1977, at the Showboat Lounge in the Fat City entertainment district of Metairie, which is a suburb [...]

THE AGGROLITES: DIRTY REGGAE FROM THE GET-GO

THE AGGROLITES: DIRTY REGGAE FROM THE GET-GO L.A. reggae band the Aggrolites have been slogging it out Studio One style since the early 2000s, most recently releasing their Rugged Road on Boston label Young Cub. Hot in pursuit of the question of just how a man comes to play reggae in Southern California anyway, we called Jesse Wagner for a few minutes diagnosis. They'll play New Year's Eve at Alex's in Long Beach. This interview by Ron Garmon. Have you ever had a NYE you haven't worked as a musician? That's funny because I was just talking about [...]

JAZZ FEST 2012: Rumors, Guesses, Wishes & More

The Voodoo Experience is now in the rearview and the relentless fall concert schedule is starting to slow down (although one could easily keep themselves busy on the live circuit until NYE) and therefore it's time to start speculating about the 2012 Jazz Fest lineup. Hard to say who will be at the top of [...]

PHOTOS / HIGHLIGHTS: Day Three @ Voodoo Experience 2011

Givers - In My Eyes - Voodoo Experience 2011
Scroll to the bottom for a photo gallery from Sunday at Voodoo 2011 My experience since being in New Orleans is that Sundays are an exceptionally treasured day in the city, and this perhaps never rings truer than during the all-too-common special weekends and particularly, during local music festivals. Sunday at Jazz Fest this year [...]

Spread the Word: The Meters in the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

After seeing them doin' their thing once again on Sunday at the Voodoo Experience, it is time to help spread the word. If you frequent this page, thank you, and also you probably are fully aware of The Meters' importance not only to New Orleans music, but to the world of funk at-large. So here [...]

Must See Sets @ Voodoo Experience 2011

Katey Red - Where Da Melph At
At long last, Voodoo week is here and although my costume status is still TBD, I've navigated through the festival schedule to pick out a few shows that I wouldn't recommend missing out on if you're gonna be in City Park this weekend. The closer this thing gets, the more intrigued I am by this [...]

REVIEW / PHOTOS / VIDEO: 7 Walkers @ Tipitina's 10/18/11

"Lovelight" | 7 Walkers | 2011.10.18 | Tipitina's Uptown | New Orleans LA
A special thanks to Erika Goldring for sharing her photos with us When esteemed actors have been around the game too long, they tend to make horrendous films together (see Grown Ups, Wild Hogs, anything Ice Cube has been up to as of late). But when road-tested musicians Bill Kreutzmann, Papa Mali, George Porter Jr., [...]

@LMBNOLA: The Original Meters Return Friday Afternoon @SFOutsideLands

The Meters with Allen Toussaint - Fire On The Bayou at Bonnaroo 2011
For the 2nd time this summer, the four original members of The Meters will share the stage tomorrow and perform at a Superfly Presents-produced mega-festival (after earlier this summer performing at Bonnaroo with Dr. John and Allen Toussaint). At 2:50 p.m., in San Francisco's historic Golden Gate Park, the seminal NOLA funk band will take the Land's End stage, and later that evening, Phish will headline that stage, and I've gotta think that a collaboration between the two is not entirely out of the realm of possibilities, one can dream right?

Dr. John Performs "Desitively Bonnaroo"
A number of great clips from last weekend's festival have been uploaded to the official Bonnaroo YouTube channel over the past few days including this video of Dr. John performing the song that inspired the name of the event along with The Original Meters and Allen Toussaint... [#Bonnaroo] On The Way To The 'Roo, Not Sure What We'll Do

Ok, so you've figured me out: I'm a hippie at heart, even if I do shave my head and trifle about like a poor man's Galifinakis at times, I'm a tree-hugging, alternative lifestyle, camping out kinda guy. It's Thursday morning, June 9th, and I'm on my way to Bonnaroo . This year's Bonnaroo trip for me is about being open to new experiences. I really don't know the music of a number of the people performing and, to be honest, I haven't had the time in the [...]

Pullin' 'Tubes: Bonnaroo Week '11

Quitters Never Win
Later this week some 80,000 music fans will descend into Manchester, TN to see scores of bands, comedians, DJs and more at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival , which will be celebrating its tenth anniversary. The fest humbly began back in 2002 by hosting around 50 mostly jam-oriented bands across four stages. Over the past decade Bonnaroo has grown exponentially and will see nearly as many acts perform on its first day alone this year as at the whole event in 2002. For Bonnaroo X the promoters have put together a lineup that is once again stacked from top to [...]
