The last time we wrote about The Middle East back at the beginning of 2010 we envisaged great things for them. Just as we were getting excited by the prospect of the release of the Australian's full-length debut 'I Want That You Are Always Happy' we found out they had decided to call it quits. [...]
We've followed Reham's career for a while now and we are constantly reminded of how beautiful her lullabies are and how poignant and timely her lyrics are. When we originally listened to this track we knew it was written about Kuwait , but the video treatment for the song takes place in Dubai's metro system and it's quite lovely. It propels the song to a different level and brings it back to life for us. Watch for yourself! Buy this song here! Filed under: Beats , Clip , [...]

Local folk-punk act OTP headlined the Middle East upstairs last Friday night to celebrate the release of their new record, Where/We're/Found , and regaled the surprisingly visceral crowd with some shiny new material. The album features 100 different album covers which were all colored in by mentally challenged adults, and was mixed and recorded by Luke Sullivan of Left Hand Does . The band shared the bill with Jay Knox Sherman, City of Squares, Adam and the Waxmen and Trebek, playing to a [...]

Going Out Cambridge rslblog.com presents 09/19 Probably the best part of having my own music blog is that I get to introduce people to amazing music. And the best part of being a promoter of those songs is that I get to bring those acts together and put on hella cool showcases at great venues - offering up taste-making adventures for our readers. Today's post is about all those things. [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Beach House, Fiest, The Middle East "Little Scout - We Are Walking Out" What's so good? Australians Little Scout is one of the most likeable bands I’ve heard in quite some time. In a world with so much complicated and confusing music, they're a breath of fresh air. Little Scout has done all the little things well, [...]
Our first event. It's been a long time coming. The Chuckness just had it's second year anniversary the other day, and I wanted to announce this as a thank you to you all. The site has organically grown from a 10 hits a day, bullshit way to share music with my friends to a semi legitimate underground spot that people visit to grab some new jams. With you all spreading the site around to your friends and family, I'm at a point now where throwing a concert is a feasible option. That being said, I didn't want to bring in [...]

When I first decided to dedicate myself to a life of music consumption, Valar was a band that I knew I should investigate, but I never got around to it. Then, I did! And I’m sure glad about it. Valar [...]
It's an odd thing, to be writing about how good a band's music is and how they were gaining lots of fans, just as news spreads that they have decided to call it quits. While they formed in 2005, perhaps it should've been clear that longevity wasn't quite in the cards for this wonderful outfit [...]

We caught Steel Train performing live in Ventura, CA as part of their recent North American tour with Jack's Mannequin. After the show we caught up with bassist Evan Winkler to discuss Baseball, historic venues and a lot of Girls... the band. Cougar Microbes: What time did you wake up today? Was it out of [...]
The Middle East split up recently, which is a real shame when you hear tracks as good as this one. As for the video the band got a contest going for independent filmmakers and this was the winner (there was actually two winners as the band couldn't decide - the other one is here: Second Winner )
This has come completely out of the blue (apparently it was announced two weeks ago and we missed it), but The Middle East have split. Yes, again. And yes, it appears that this time it’s for good - though, in light of their earlier split, we’re not ruling anything out. ‘I Want That You Are Always Happy’, you may recall, was featured as one of our album picks back in June. They ‘don’t feel like playing anymore for a number of reasons’ , and as such, their final single [...]
The Middle East has given us visuals for there latest single "Jesus Came To My Birthday Party," sadly this will be the last video we'll ever see. The collective have decided to call it quits and move on to greater things. So enjoy this beautifully shot visual above for this is the last we'll see from the Aussie bunch. Album is available now.
My kids took me to play putt-putt on my birthday in 100 degree heat. It was so fucking hot, I thought I saw Jesus. But I think I was just having a flashback or going through menopause or something. Anyway, the now-defunct Aussie band has just put out this video for "Jesus Came To My Birthday Party." I am pretty pissed off at them for closing up shop as their latest album is phenomenal. And while I typically don't like videos that make me think, I have forgiven them on the grounds that there is a [...]
