Don't get too excited now. RZA seems to be as in-demand as ever for guest appearances, just not to actually drop a verse, or even more than a few words just so you know he's there. After barely (but admittedly, memorably) featuring on Kanye 's "So Appalled ," the RZA is back to pay your ass a vizit on Kendrick Lamar's new song "Ronald Reagan Era." A video surfaced last month of Kendrick in the studio with the Abbott working [...]
“Don't quote that. That's the worst thing I've ever said,” laughs Jordan Ireland. The Middle East frontman has just concluded an answer to one of The Line Of Best Fit's questions with a remark of such beige blandness that his bandmate Rohin Jones is in stitches. Sitting in a sun-dappled beer garden in late spring, The Middle East are embarking on their final few interviews before the release of I Want That You Are Always Happy , their sort-of-but-not-quite debut album. The band themselves view their first release, The Recordings of The [...]

I had some serious decision making to do last night as I encountered a severe overlap of two of my life's great passions: Ridiculously sultry electropop, courtesy of JUNIOR BOYS, and NBA... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .

The Middle East are hardly in an enviable position. For one thing, they’re from Australia, a country less than hospitable to shy retiring indie, and – to a Brit, at least – mindbogglingly difficult to imagine gigging across. Then there’s the band’s recent past. Main songwriter Jordan Ireland recently reunited the band, which had dissolved while he travelled around Europe. In their previous guise, they had earned plaudits for, respectively, the catchiness and immediacy of ‘Blood’, and the elegiac, ‘The Darkest Side’. Would the darkness dull their populist ears? Would they try to rewrite ‘Blood’ until they were dry? [...]

I tweeted earlier tonight (I hate this fucking sentence already) concerning the tabs I have open here in my nifty little browser. Because I am a blogger, it made sense to write about this. Have a gander... ** Ewan Currie's Bandcamp Dude, I've got a serious clit stiffy for this dude and his band. I've wrote about The Sheepdogs before , they've made it [...]
Here we have a really interesting mix of sounds. Kinda folky, a little country, somewhat poppy, all awesome. Aussies The Middle East project a tantalizing uniqueness on their most recent album I Want That You Are Always Happy. It's hard to evaluate life-threatening illnesses if you skipped med school to kick rhymes. Still, countless members of the rap community diagnosed Boston MC Akrobatik (real name: Jared Bridgeman) on Twitter, spreading unsubstantiated reports that he had suffered a heart attack, and subsequently slipped into a coma, on May 12. Some gossipers meant well. Others were just feeding the frenzy. But the only slice of the story that most of them got right is that there's an all-star benefit for Akro this Saturday at the Middle East. "I [...]

Few bands receive multiple posts within such a short time, but the folk/"post-rockers" named The Middle East deserve it based on the quality of their recently released full length album in mid-April. The album's debut track, "Jesus Came To My Birthday Party," featured here in March, ultimately stands out as the only up-tempo of all 15, with peevish instrumentation and appeasing guitar hooks taking over throughout. Produced between tours in three different locales beginning in 2009, it's a unique album that separates The Middle East from other indie bands, seemingly creating a morph of [...]

Despite having already put one record out, it’s fair to say that The Middle East ’s sophomore album is far more like a début than The Recordings of the Middle East , their first release . Whereas that initial foray was more a collection of songs, essentially a lengthy EP, I Want That You Are Always Happy is a cohesive, united work which not only sounds a lot more complete, but also marks a new beginning for a group who have already split up and reformed once. If [...]

I wrote about Queensland, Australia's The Middle East on CO way back in 2008 (although Wikipedia claims I Guess I'm Floating introduced the band in May 2009) when I stumbled on the impressive track "Blood." There was little in the way of information on the band then, but it seemed they had called it quits. Perhaps the attention their music garnered spurred them to reunite. A re-release of their EP The Recordings Of Middle Eas t followed to rave reviews, and now the collective is armed with their first full-length, entitled I Want That You Are [...]

The Middle East Album Review: The Middle East - I Want That You Are Always Happy June 2, 2011 by Chuck Norton Sometimes I have a hard time putting my finger on exactly what it is that makes me fall in love with an album. And sometimes everything about an album makes me fall in love with it. The Australian band, The Middle East, will be releasing their debut LP I Want That You Are Always Happy [...]

Sometimes the most beautiful of things can come from the most unexpected of places. As suggested by a few of its song titles (well, any album that opens with a song called ‘Black Death 1349’ shouldn’t be expected to be the most cheerful of listens), the long-awaited debut from Australia’s The Middle East is a rather downbeat affair. This doesn’t stop ‘I Want That You Are Always Happy’ from being an impressive piece of work; in fact, it’s perhaps the most rewarding album of the year thus far. There are relatively few upbeat moments. Aside from the [...]

In places this album hints at a change of track for The Middle East , and certainly there are more experimental sounds and sometimes just the bare bones of songs on I Want That You Are Always Happy , but just beneath the surface is a collection of achingly beautiful tracks. The sound might be simpler than their debut The Recordings of the Middle East , but this album will not disappoint fans of their previously more intricate acoustic sound. First up and 'Black Death 1349' is a downbeat start [...]

Soms is recenseren gewoon hard werk. Zo maakt The Middle East het me flink moeilijk met hun nieuwe album met de prachtige titel I Want That You Are Always Happy.
