The artist track listing for the forthcoming Rock Band 2 video game has been announced. I must say, it's a pretty impressive list of songs, including The Replacements' "Alex Chilton," The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' "Where'd You Go,' Metallica's "Battery," Bikini Kill's "Rebel List," among many others. Check out the full list of songs after the jump. AC/DC "Let There Be Rock" 1970s AFI "Girl's Gone Grey" 2000's Alanis Morissette "You Oughta Know" 1990's Alice in Chains [...]
Hot off their appearance as cover boys on Improper Bostonian Magazine , the Dropkick Murphys have unleaded a new song via their myspace. Entitled "The Chosen Few", described by the band "as a tongue and cheek take on what our city really thinks of 'Bostons Best,'" the song is available as a free download . Among the special guest vocals appearing on the song are those of Dicky Barrett, the frontman for the recently reunited Might Mighty Bosstones, a band currently on the road with Dropkick. Really? Seriously? I didn't know. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones recently released a compilation album, Medium Rare , that includes a bunch of b-sides , vinyl-only tracks, and (the best part) three new tunes. I thought they broke up, but (as evidenced by the new songs) the band hasn't missed a single skankin' beat. < The single best campaign video I've ever seen in my life. Perhaps one of the best anything I've seen. Seriously, it's worth watching no matter who you support, simply as a reminder of what an astonishing world we live in, and how much we have to be thankful for. I know a few words don't make a campaign, and I know it's not enough to just believe that things can be better...but sometimes I wonder if we give our smarter, more realistic, more jaded selves too much power. Sometimes I wonder if we pay too much attention [...]

Sick of those same damn christmas songs that seem to stalk you everywhere you go? Have no fear! The Housewives are here! 10. Fear - Fuck Christmas For all you scrooges out there. This one is fucking last. 9. The Impossibles - White Christmas Who doesn't love The Impossibles? Who doesn't love epic mid-tempo versions christmas songs? 8. Less Than Jake - Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer [...]
If you're anything like me, you've come up with plenty of stories about what happened to the Bosstones after their sour last major-label record years ago. The best I could come up with was a cult suicide with Dicky Barrett in a purple robe leading the group into the afterlife. Wrong! In this time of spiritual holiday joy, revel in the knowledge that the ol' Bosstones are back together from December 26-31 to celebrate a (sorta') new record release. It's called Medium Rare , so maybe it's a collection of rarities, but I didn't research enough to [...]

So Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize. Good for him. My favorite quote on the subject, from Talking Points Memo : "You know, with Al Gore winning the Nobel Prize for his environmental activism, it really makes the Nader voters look prescient, doesn't it?" For serious. Tessie - The Dropkick Murphys Dirty Water - The Standells The Bartender's Song - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones In (slightly) less important news, the Red Sox begin the ALCS with the Indians tonight, [...]
This morning, I had to make the decision to bail on my trip to New York for CMJ?s Music Marathon. I overdrew my bank account by $160, used up all my vacation time when I had gallbladder surgery back in July, and I still owe my boss something like $500, ...
I'm finally getting my iTunes somewhat fixed and am now able to sort. Anyway, here are some great cover songs by some just as great bands... Bouncing Souls - "Pay to Come" (Bad Brains cover) Elliott Smith - "Trouble" (Cat Stevens Cover) The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - "Rudie Can't Fail (The Clash Cover) The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - "Detroit Rock City" (Kiss cover) Weezer - "Brown Eyed Girl" (Van Morrison Cover) Ted Leo - "Rappaport's [...]

First, Quentin Tarantino introduced us to The 5.6.7.8's in Kill Bill, Vol. 1 with their infectiously upbeat rockabilly song Woo Hoo . The song later appeared in several commercials. The group was a three piece from Tokyo that played surf rock with 50's and 60's style and flavor. What the band lacked with their command of English was easily made up for by their enthusiasm. Then we experienced Asobi Seksu with Yuki Chikudate serenading us with an enticing mixture of English and Japanese. Unlike The 5.6.7.8's, Asobi [...]
1994 sucked. I graduated from college without any fanfare. My relationship of two years ended. God, your mid 20's can really suck. Glad I finally grew up and realized it wasn't that bad in the grand scheme of things. Song: Temporary Artist: Ignition Album: Complete Services Comments: I learned to appreciate this band later in life. Featuring members of Faith and Ian Mackaye's brother. I bought this for the latter. This is pretty decent hardcore in the post hardcore DC era. It [...]
Time for some more political talk while I'm finishing up my year-end lists. * * * First, in an interesting development, the second person pronoun is Time's Person of the Year . I don't know about that. You is good, but I've always been more partial to We . * * * 2008 Watch: Bayh is out, Warner may not be, Edwards (who rubs me the wrong way for some reason) is in, [...]
Yes, they're ubiquitous on blogs these days, but there are so many Christmas songs out there that I can't help the urge to add a post myself. To be fair, I did my best to limit it to songs that haven't shown up elsewhere so at least you can get something a little bit different. The Christians and the Pagans - Dar Williams Sure Don't Feel Like Christmas - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones The Christmas Song - The Raveonettes Christmas at the Zoo [...]
