The Dear Hunter (not to be confused with post-punk/ shoegaze hybrid act Deerhunter, noise pop group Deerhoof, or post-rock band the Dears) are a diverse group of genre-benders that fit quite nicely in line with the recent “throw a bunch of different genres together and see what comes out” school of indie rock pioneered by Broken Social Scene and brought to prominence by Arcade Fire’s Funeral . If you’re familiar with those groups and others in the same style – the National, the Decemberists, Wolf Parade – you should have a decent idea of what to expect here. Plenty [...]

Beads è il nuovo album della formazione indie folk danese The Migrant , da Copenhagen: Ask the Current by The MigrantCarriage by The Migrant

'Uncontrolable' (too wild even for conventional spelling) is the latest track from Brisbane’s fierce and demented Tiny Migrants . We've been on the trail these guys have left ever since they played our Brissie Halloween party in 2010. This track doesn’t waste one second of its 2:12 running time, starting out with a blazing beat from Tiger Beams’ Jesse Hawkins, picking up some tambourine and a dusty bass line before Julien James’s spazzy guitar and vocal yelps complete a volatile experiment in fucking exciting rock and roll. This track is the [...]

I didn't post at all on FensePost last week. That's crazy. I had been on a roll, pumping out posts on a daily basis, then I hit a wall and needed an immediate break. But my breaks are typically filled with, well, something else. They're aren't true breaks , in the informal-synonym-for-vacation sense of the word. That's right, it was pledge week at KSVR and KSVU. Being pledge week, I came in Wednesday night and sat in on Jackson Stewart's Blue Boulevard and we [...]

I wasn't originally planning on doing a show this evening, but decided to take my normal spot behind the microphone anyway. So the playlist didn't begin coming together until the evening of. There was no theme, it was all variety; folk to electronic to noise rock. If you missed it, here's the list: "The Crystal Cat" by Dan Deacon by Spiderman Of The Rings "A Dark God Heart" by Sleep Party People off We Were Drifting On A Sad Song [...]

"When the guest came in for dinner, there it was, quietly sitting and munching. The host, not wishing to upset his guests, made no reference to the horse; the guests, not wishing to upset the host, made no reference to the horse. Consequently, he or she ate his or her dinner in silence - so overwhelmed by the presence of the horse that he or she could neither carry on a conversation nor enjoy the dinner and so imbued with his or her notion of politeness that he or she dared not mention the horse." [...]

The Migrant Amerika Self-Released [2011] Fire Note Says: A solid self-released sophomore record from The Migrant. Album Review: Amerika is the sophomore album from The Migrant, aka Bjarke Bendtsen, which returns with another batch of his psychedelic pop-folk. Amerika differentiates itself from last years debut by bringing a fuller sound to the tracks with more instruments that are utilized to build songs [...]
Surfer Blood return with their first release since 20102s sensational debut LP, Astro Coast, an album that made them a huge hit in the indie circuits for the past two years. One of our favorite songs so far this autumn is "Don't Move" from Phantogram; it's simply a fantastic track that you just can't but [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
Have to reduce the number of mails in the inbox (9,024)...so no words today...just music...will add stuff if/when something interesting (and listenable) pops up... + The Migrant - 2811 California Street To be continued...
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: The Migrant Video: '2811 California Street' Highlight: "My friend Alexandra Hartmann made this hypnotizing video," lead singer Bjarke Bendtsen tells Spinner. "I love the way she's able to capture the emotions of a song, spin it and twist it and take you somewhere else. Her kids Maya and Sasja are the dancing performers in this video. They've been brainwashed to adore the the Migrant during the making of the last couple of records."

I entered the studio at about 9:35pm, meeting up with Stuarto, who has the time slot before mine. A quick interview about 15 minutes before my show, another few songs, and I was up. It was requested that I attempt a transition, and as indie music is my theme, and world music is his, I figured I'd kick things off with an oldie, but goodie: "The Gulag Orkestar" by Beirut. The theme of the evening, loosely, centered around folk. Indie folk, folk pop, folk rock, orchestral folk, experimental folk... [...]

The album Travels In Lowland by The Migrant was one of those that came out of nowhere last year and ended up being one of our favourites (see our Albums of the Year post for 2010 here ). So we were delighted to find out that The Migrant (aka Bjarke Bendtsen) has returned with a new album Amerika , which gets a release on October 25th. Departing somewhat from the airy Danish seaside of Travels in Lowland , Amerika occupies the spare, vast spaces of the American landscape with beautiful, sprawling, acoustic [...]

A sad admission: Travels in Lowland , the last album by The Migrant , should have easily been among my top albums of 2010. Thankfully, Denmark's Bjarke Bendtsen is back with Amerika , set for an October 25 release. "The Hurricane" is the first track to be released from the album. In it The Migrant creates orchestrated folk-pop perfection. Having heard Amerika in its entirety, I have no problem noting that "The Hurricane" is merely one of nine truly astonishing tracks. [...]

Woah look who's still alive. We are! And just to prove it, here's a brand new mix fresh out of the over. Featuring stellar cuts from the likes of Tony Lionni , Session Victim , Julio Bashmore , Sigha , Martyn , Midland and Lone . Here are a few words from RTYPE on the mix: "With this mix I wanted to create something that really captured the sound of summer - that festival vibe, partying outdoors with your [...]

Okay, so this isn't exactly the newest tune from the Danish group (predominantly a man and friends), The Migrant , but in a busy years, I accidentally glanced over the late November release of Travels in Lowland . But, it's now becoming one of my favorite records, spinning a great deal around the house as the cold slowly creeps into my bedroom. When you listen to the album's opening track "The Organ Grinder" you'll find that there's gentle guitar strumming, strong wavering vocals, and a step-up in tempo mid-track. All [...]
We come to the last of The Wounded Jukebox's Best Songs of 2010 lists. I made an effort to avoid repeating artists on my list in order to include more of the songs that I loved this year. The resulting list is a pretty good representation of the tunes I discovered in 2010. I prefer [...]

Now that we've had the top tens from all the Mad Mackerel contributors, we will give you a definitive overall top ten in a couple of days. Before that is our penultimate top ten list of the year - the favourite new bands and artists that have come our way in 2010 which was perhaps the hardest list of all to compile. So with honourable mentions to Gaoler's Daughter , White Noise Movement, Pop. 1280 and White Dress , here we have our favourites. Hopefully we'll see a lot more of them all in [...]

So after much deliberation, head scratching, discussion, and more head scratching, we have MM’s favourite albums of 2010. And we choose our words very carefully here, because we would not presume them to be the best, only those that have given us the most pleasure and enjoyment, records that we have returned to again and again, and for whatever reason have captured a moment or special place in our hearts. And while we have limited our selection to 25 albums there were many, many more that could have, and maybe should have, featured. But there that’s the beauty [...]
