The War on Drugs visited with Reverb's Mile Marker session (you can listen/download the session over here ) to lay down an impressive small sample for fans. The good news is that they'll be back October 30 over at Hi-Dive . Electrelane recorded a Black Cab Session during their Field Day excursion that's brilliant and has led me to cross my fingers for new material. Maná showed up to Jay Leno last night to put a stronger grip on the LA area. The guys played 3 or 4 nights all sold out [...]

Today we have an exclusive track for you from Bee Control. The band is a project comprising Pelican guitarist Trevor de Brauw, Dave Laney ( Milemarker / Challenger / Auxes ) and Theo Katsaounis ( Joan of Arc /Locks/Hey Tonal). The song, "Indemnify", is a B-side from sessions for the band's new self-titled 7", released yesterday on Past/Futures Records .

Hellbender , for this writer, has always been more connected to personal memories than the love of the actual music. Listening to the band I am reminded of inside jokes, handmade t-shirts, missed opportunities. Even now, sitting at my desk listening to Hellbender, I am transported back to community college (Jealous?), skipping class, watching friends smoke, and thinking about my new girlfriend (now my wife of seven years!). Of the bands three albums and numerous EPs I only really love one release, 1997's Con Limon . On Con Limon you can see the three members [...]

We all have our hobbies. Whether it be collecting records, knitting, or making graffiti stencils, we all have something that steals away our time and makes the monotony of everyday life a little more bearable. But sometimes our hobbies consume too much of our time or, God forbid, our hobbies become just as monotonous as our day job. You must take a step back and to see what you loved about that hobby in the first place. For this Friday Top Five we will take a look at several bands that have for one reason or another taken [...]

Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Madagascar 2) has reportedly been tapped to write and Kevin Lima (Enchanted) to direct Universal Pictures' live-action film Candy Land, based on the Hasbro board game. Universal Pictures and Hasbro formed a six-year strategic partnership in February 2008 to produce at least four feature films based on some of Hasbro's toy brands including Monopoly , Candy Land, Clue, Ouija, Battleship , Magic: the Gathering, and Stretch Armstrong . The deal also stated that the first film would be released in 2010 or 2011, and Universal will release at least one film [...]

You might remember Dave Laney from Milemarker and Challenger . Now he's back with Auxes , a project that is primarily his brainchild (with some help from members of Fin Fang Foom , Bellafea , Eagle Bravo and Sleepytime Trio ). I love it when non-hardcore bands can pull off vocals with an obvious old-school hardcore aesthetic, and Laney makes that work well. If that's also your thing, then you're in luck — the band's debut album, Sunshine , will be out in October [...]
Hailing from NC, Milemarker , a band I know a ton of my friends like... This 2000 record, was by far my favorite record by them, maybe it seemed a bit more melodic from their other ones.. Anyway, check out some great tracks below: Milemarker - Cryogenic Sleep (tell me this couldn't be a Portishead song) Milemarker - Sex Jam Two - Insect Incest Milemarker - frigid forms sell you [...]
FIVE SCENES PERIPHERAL TO A WAR BOMBS ON THE WAY Promute Dark Moving Blondena Music : 2006 [Buy It] I. Yesterday morning, I sat outside a cute coffee shop in an ugly strip mall. North Carolina starts to thaw in February, and it felt good to sit outside. Even though I was essentially sitting in a parking lot, I had a little table and a fresh cup of coffee, and my first cigarette of the day smoldered in my [...]
