Two of our favorite MCs here at Potholes, Open Mike Eagle and Milo , are getting ready to hit the road together. Their Regular Tour kicks off May 26 at the Rhymesayers-hosted Soundset Festival and then moves through the Midwest. It's a pretty short jaunt, but I'm hopeful that they'll tour together in the near future. I hope. Anyway, you can peep the full schedule below .
As anyone who traverses the blogosphere knows full well, it can be difficult to keep up with every.single.thing posted online. Hell, we're even guilty of falling out of touch with some artists we truly enjoy by virtue of trying to keep up with everything we can to keep y'all interested and engaged. With that in mind, we decided to come up with this new feature highlighting five hip-hop acts you need to know. Chances are you might know one or two of these acts already, but maybe they have fallen by your listening habits wayside. Or perhaps [...]
A spare, unreleased track from Milo surfaces on YouTube via this channel , and the image would imply that it's a leftover from Milos new EP, Things That Happen At Day . While the song isn't Milo's most impressive lyrical feat, the wind chime beat is incredibly spacey, relaxing, and serene. Enjoy! Check a review for Milo's new EPs below:

Review courtesy of the Uber Max Bell. Milwaukee's Milo has a "big brain"- like Jimmy Neutron if he talked about Nietzsche's Übermensch instead of science. Think of Milo as a more introspective and well read Ab-Soul for fans of Vonnegut and Phillip K. Dick. Allusions aside, he's an intelligent, unabashedly horny '90s baby with an inexhaustible store of knowledge (high/low culture and otherwise) and a prodigious gift for thought-provoking and brow-furrowing bars. His come-ons are only understood by those who know the fantastic '90s Nickelodeon game show Legends of the Hidden Temple . He swears he's [...]

Intuition isn't just a rapper. The Los Angeles dweller also recently launched his own podcast series, Kinda Neat , wherein he invites some of his favorite artists for interviews and performances. The latest episode features one of our favorite rappers these days, Milo , whose double-EP is easily one of the year's best hip-hop releases. With that in mind, I just had to share this intimate take on "Sweet Chin Music (The Fisher King's Anthem)", a personal favorite off Things That Happen At Day . Watch below. Word to the Heart Break Kid.

“Things That Happen” is my first time listening to Milo, and I immediately like him because it’s obvious he’s a well read guy. To paraphrase "Tourette’s" guy, “He likes what I like.” [...]

The idea for the latest Shots Fired episode was to invite Milo and Jonwayne on to partake in a 30-year survey of the history of independent rap. After all, they are two of the best 90s babies rappers on independent labels. Then we decided to use the hour to talk about strippers, Dragon Ball Z, Edan and Doom. I also insisted that we play the Lady Gaga version of "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe." As Kurt Vonnegut, who I believe originally recorded for Def Jux said, "So it goes." We also premiered a new [...]

Milo - Things That Happen At Day/Things That Happen At Night Hellfyre Club: 2013 “Underground hip-hop” doesn’t exist in the same area that it did 10 years ago. Def Jux is a thing of the past, Aesop Rock is still making music but it’s not the same headspace that Labor Days came out of, and overall things are just, well, different. I speak of that with some kind of nostalgia, because that was, like many people, my formal introduction to getting involved in the music world. Stones Throw, Def Jux, and Rhymesayers were all that mattered and [...]
Regarding his new single "GLDCHN," rapper Remy Banks says, "This is NEWNEWYORK. There is no NEWNEWYORK without QUEENS." Passion for his home borough is imbued in everything Banks does, whether it's as part of collective World's Fair, named after the Flushing Meadow Corona Park landmark, or in WF subset trio Children Of The Night, whose mixtape Queens... Revisited got the MOTW nod back in March 2012. Here, Banks links up with Spanish Harlem-native Bodega Bamz for this plucky, mildy menacing cut. Producer Milo crafted its eerie underpinnings, which seems in line with his output, [...]
Hellfyre Club rapper Milo dropped a pair of EPs at the top of the New Year, which I already gushed about. And we premiered the wintry visuals for lead single " Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc " before 2012 came to a close. So it's only right that we bring you the remix of that same track. In an attempt to not confuse you, Milo reached out to two producers to tackle the entirety of each of his new EPs. On Things That Happen at Day , each beat is crafted Riley Lake. And on Things [...]
things that happen at day by Milo Stream this new Milo EP- and its more nocturnal brother -via Bandcamp. I just reviewed both of 'em here . Some really enjoyable, well-produced, and personal hip hop here.

Filter Magazine is continuing the celebrate the 50th birthday of Descendents ' Milo Aukerman with a lengthy interview with the band, where they talk about their history together. The first part is conducted my the Minutemen 's Mike Watt, and the second is conducted by longtime Descendents and ALL artist Chris Sheary. You can check out the interview here .
On his new set of EPs, Wisconsin rapper Rory Ferreira, a.k.a. Milo, changes his instrumental game, rapping over some pretty spacious, atmospheric beats. On top of that, he's strengthened his usual barrage of obtuse personal musings; bringing their emotional potency higher than ever. WATCH THE REVIEW
True fans of music spend countless hours searching for that next great song, album or artist, whether it be online or in a local record shop. The beautiful thing about music in today’s age is that technology has created an infinite supply of great music that is available to us at the click of a mouse. How perfect is that? We can discover a brand new artist on the opposite side of the globe in seconds without a radio or a music television channel. It only makes sense that a website so dedicated to this gorgeous universe of music would [...]

things that happen at day by Milo things that happen at night by Milo "things that happen at day // things that happen at night" is a double-EP exploring duality and responsibility. it is unavoidably obtuse, overwhelmingly self-important and I am not sorry." - Milo
On New Year's Day, the latest addition to the HellFyre Club roster, gifted young rapper Milo , dropped a pair of EPs. They are Things That Happen at Day and Things That Happen at Night and act as companion pieces to one another. Across their 10 total tracks, you'll hear samples of the xx and James Ingram, an interpolation of the Wallflower's "One Headlight" chorus, and an endless stream of killer cultural references. The only featured guests are Safari Al and Busdriver , the latter of whom slays his verse on "The Gus Haynes Cribbage League". [...]

It's easy to say that Milo's take on hip hop is not for everybody. It lacks the bravado, (traditional) punchlines and self-congratulatory tone of the majority of the rappity rap realm. The references are somewhat academic and the tone is self-deprecating. Some might call Milo an arthouse rapper, but placing him in the Digable Planets/Brand Nubian lineage would be a mistake. The deadpan flow and highly referential nature might bring up Das Racist comparisons, but Milo's lyrical arrangements aren't as populist stream-of-consciousness as the deceased Brooklyn trio. Milo is also probably smarter than you, a point that is emphasized throughout [...]

Top 10 Albums (no particular order) Kendrick Lamar: Good Kid, m.a.a.d. City "Swimming Pools (Drank)" Kendrick Lamar has the Outkast factor. I can listen to his songs, intently focusing on the lyrics while getting lost in the scenes he vividly describes, or I can zone out, not pay attention to what he’s saying and dance to the beat while singing along with the incredibly infectious hooks. GKMC feels like 3 Stacks and Big Boi [...]
