Co-starring with SNL alum Fred Armisen on IFC's hit series "Portlandia" and fronting the band Wild Flag are just a few of her accomplishments. With two sold out shows at the Echoplex, Portlandia: The Tour came rolling into Echo Park with comedy sketches, music (including Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles performing "Manic Monday" with Armisen and Brownstein), creative videos and audience participation. Surprise guest appearances from Kyle MacLachlan, Kumail Nanjiani—the waiter in the episode "Around the World in 80 Plates"—and keyboardist [...]

Wednesday night, I was treated to a reading by author Joshua Harmon from this upcoming book of essays entitled The Annotated Mixtape where Harmon broke down Def Leppard videos, analyzed his own biography against music, and admits to his record collecting's impact on his life and floorspace. A highlight from the reading was this amazing track by Denver's The Minders, an band who're affiliated with Elephant 6. And tho we're not in the habit of putting YouTube vids of songs up, this one is [...]
To be more specific, this past Saturday, Terre T hosted on her Cherry Blossom Clinic , 2 live bands:: Wild Flag (all female quartet containing members of Sleater-Kinney, Minders and Helium) and UK DIY anarcho punk rockers Zounds ! Yowza, now that's a show! I was asked to engineer both, and responded with a HELL YES, and so our work was cut out for us! Check out the archive of the program . Shock and Awetober, indeed! Wild Flag is still out on tour; they played [...]

Something of an ATP 'supergroup', a chinstroker's lucid dream atop a camp bed in a dilapidated chalet, Wild Flag are fronted by Carrie Brownstein and backed by drummer Janet Weiss, both once of Sleater-Kinney renown, with Mary Timony, once of Boston noise pop outfit Helium, on guitars, hooting, howling, and the like, with added spells cast from the keys of Rebecca Cole, long-standing drummer for Martyn Leaper's The Minders. Fitting that they should have been plucked out by Les Savy Fav to add further freak-out to December's Nightmare Before Xmas then. Regarding that [...]

Wild Flag from Portland consists of members from Sleater-Kinney, Helium, and The Minders. This is a cool, quirky, upbeat track that reminds me a bit of Fiery Furnaces. Contributed by Bruce Rave Wild Flag - Romance ( Facebook ) Catch Bruce on Moheak Radio Fridays 1-3pm PST

If you're an indie rock-inclined human being of a certain age, there's a good chance you've been checking for updates on the Wild Flag album the same way 14-year-old girls are checking for updates on the Hunger Games movie. Here's why: Wild Flag's members include Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss, which means two thirds of Sleater-Kinney are back together ! It also includes Mary Timony, which means all of the Spells are back together ! (Did you ever hear The Age Of Backwards , the 1999 EP from the Brownstein/Timony side project? You [...]
In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Sampler offers a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. Less talk, more tunes. In case you missed it, four of the most rocking women around decided to get back to making music and call themselves Wild Flag. Carrie Brownstein, Janet Weiss, Mary Timony, and Rebecca Cole have quite a rock 'n 'roll pedigree, having logged time and miles in bands including Sleater-Kinney, Quasi, Helium, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, and The Minders. It then goes without saying that Wild Flag's debut is both highly-anticipated and chock full of hard rocking riffs -- and, undoubtedly, a good time. The band recently released a trailer for their self-titled debut album, which features clips of a [...]

They are new, but they are not. Wild Flag are releasing their depute album on September 13, but this is not the first time we hear about the girls. The punk rock post riot grrrl superband consists of Carrie Brownstein (among others guitarist and vocalist at Sleater Kinney and actress, eg. in Portlandia) and Janet [...]

Last week we covered a new track from Portland folk outfit Death Songs called "Wounds" off the new PDX Pop Now! compilation. We talked a little bit about the band and the song, and had a few words to say about the organization as well. That wasn't enough; it's high time I let slip a little something - we here at FensePost have been quiet supporters of the Portland festival. Visit the music room in my house and you'll see several from the compilation [...]
GILLIAN WELCH ( Roseland , 8 NW 6th) Where you been, Gillian? The divine Ms. Welch came to Portland last year as part of the wonderful hootenanny that was the Dave Rawlings Machine show, but otherwise it's been ages since folk traditionalist Gillian Welch came through under her own name. She's back, with musical other half Rawlings in tow, supporting their haunting new record The Harrow and the Harvest . NED LANNAMANN Also see our article on Gillian Welch . [...]

After announcing its existence and playing SXSW, Wild Flag is finally gearing up to release a debut full-length. The band is kind of like a fem-rock Voltron, built of members from various indie rock bands of note: Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weis of Sleater-Kinney, Mary Timony of Helium, and Rebecca Cole from Minders. Merge records recently dropped the album track "Romance," and features some pretty eccentric vocals and some smooth transitions between the verses and choruses. Dig on the album art below, and look for the LP on Sept. 13th.

O primeiro single [...]

A supergroup that rules? Gasp!

Wild Flag is a new rock supergroup featuring Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weis of Sleater-Kinney, Mary Timony of Helium, and Rebecca Cole from Minders.
