The BBC is to trial selected TV shows online first before putting them on the network rotation. Up to 40 hours of original material will be tested on the corporation's iPlayer in this manner. Until now, the BBC's online-only content has been limited to comedy pilots and one-off shows such as the Doctor Who web series Pond Life, but now it's like they are turning iPlayer into a minor league system for the big league BBC network. I'm surprised American networks don't do something similar. Even better would be using an online audience to crowd-source the pilot [...]

I just finished reading Joe Oestereich's "Hitless Wonder: A Life in Minor League Rock and Roll" and I'm not sure what to think about it. It covers 20 plus years in the life of Watershed , a band from Columbus, Ohio with which I was previously unfamiliar, and though it ends a year or two ago it exists in a world where the Web provides email and occasional bits of information but is otherwise absent from the narrative. Really, even though they started getting serious about their band towards the end of the 80's, it [...]
The Minor Leagues perform on the AliveOne stage at 5:15pm on Friday, July 13 The Minor Leagues are a 7-piece band from Cincinnati that “blends Brill Building arrangements with the drive and sing-along choruses of 90s Brit-pop, all set against a backdrop of lush instrumentation. The band's past work has earned them comparisons to recent popsmiths like Belle & Sebastian and The New Pornographers, but their charm, witty lyricism and ear for detail sets them apart from the rest.” North College Hill by The Minor Leagues [...]
Bill Murray is part owner of the Charleston Riverdogs, a Class-A minor league baseball team belong to the New York Yankees. He also holds the title of “Director of Fun.” Which means when it rained this past weekend at the game it poured Bill Murray hilarious goodness. How great would it have been to run around in the rain tramping down tarps with Bill Murray? Has there every been a personality quite like Bill Murray? [via uproxx ]

A finales del año 2009 os presentábamos por aquí a The Minor Leagues, el grupo de Cincinnati, Ohio que por entonces acababa de publicar su quinto álbum, "This Story Is Old, I Know, But It Goes On".

The Minor Leagues are a seven piece band from Cincinnati that produce a blend of chamber, indie and brit pop (although from Ohio). A 902s nostalgia is evident in all their tracks but with a sound that borders to bands like the New Pornographers or Belle and Sebastian, that can only mean a good thing. The Minor Leagues - Secret Codes North College Hill is their latest album and it feels like a trip back home, to the basics of [...]

There's just not much love left in the world, particularly for Cherub . They just hate against those rich hoes and those high class folks who just made it too quick (or stepped in a pile). You all know what I'm talking about. Champagne and cocaine is apparently the fix for that predicament. Don't try this at home! But seriously, we've got a slew of good mixes this week on our Weekly Download with a Gorillaz cover by Animalweapon and a Lana Del Rey cover of "Video Games" that might actually [...]

I’ve probably written this a billion times before (give and take a few), but nonetheless I still feel that it’s relevant to repeat it from time to time. To all you friendly people sending mails suggesting I should check out this, that or something else; I’m truly sorry if you never get any reply or even better see the stuff featured around here. But time is a limited resource and although I do my best actually giving what’s sent my way a listen, it’s still only a minor part of the whole thing. As it should be painfully obvious to [...]

In 2009 Sarah Morrison posted here the song Good Boys, calling The Minor Leagues infectiously cheery. They are back in this 2012 with a new album. This band from Cincinnati on North College Hill will show you an orchestral dimension of pop music, only possible between the best music creators. It should be illegal to create such ilusions. North College Hill from The Minor Leagues released via Datawaslost North College Hill is the new album from The Minor Leagues , the latest in a string of releases from the Cincinnati seven-piece to pair stinging melancholy with insidiously catchy melodies. The Minor Leagues' last two records covered the end of a relationship and the end of the world in overblown concept-album fashion, and this new album continues the streak with ten songs of bittersweet rust-pop about North College Hill, lead singer Ben [...]

Some time ago, about two years three months to be precise we posted about The Minor Leagues . A lot has happened since that post eons ago. This is what we said then… Ben Walpole wishes he were British, fronting Pulp in 1995. Patrick Helmes wishes he were playing lead for Megadeth in 1988. But cruel fate has instead placed them both in the Minor Leagues, playing insidiously catchy indiepop for most of the last decade from their Cincinnati, Ohio homebase. Since that time the band has been busy but has apparently [...]
