Some time back, I was sitting outside some pub in Europe enjoying the scene. It was brisk day and group of rag-a-muffin musicians stopped by and played some tunes. Lots of scarves, funny hats, ratty sweaters and the sort. They carried with them a mix of guitars, fiddles, a cello and some random wind instruments. It wasn't the tightest act in the world but it was a nice listen on a fall European day. After stumbling across The Miserable Rich, a 5 piece chamber pop outfit from Brighton, UK, my thoughts drifted back to that same day. I [...]

Although the whole EOTR experience is wonderful, it's the music that most people are there for. My musical adventures started properly about 9:30pm on the Friday when I popped up to the Bimble Inn to see Devon Sproule play her wistful take on acoustic American folk music. There were songs from her Upstate Song s record, her latest Keep Your Silver Shined , a Neil Young cover and a triumphant ending on current album stand-out Old Virginia Block . A good start to proceedings for me. [...]

The Miserable Rich - Pisshead Orchestral folk, it appears, comes as a result of being frustrated with the traditions of indie, folk and electronica, much the way the cellists and pianists of Shoreline were back in 2006 when they decided to incorporate whistles, a music box, ringing bells, jew's harp and haunting chello into a very specific vision. The Brighton's five-piece will release their debut album 'Twelve Ways To Count' in Novemeber. MySpace Photo by vincent.gdf
![RIOT RADIO [PLAYLIST #18]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1120972_lg.jpg)

Playlist du 14 février au 21 février... Une radio pop, faite de reprise (improbable sur le "over & over" des Hot Chip par les Miserable Rich), de bootleg (quand les Nine Inch Nails rencontrent les Beatles avec DJ Zebra), de remixes (des Yeasayer et des Raveonettes), de nouveautés prometteuses et parfois enivrantes (The Helio sequence, Cut Copy, Basia Bulat, The Duke Spirit, AmpLive), de vieilleries intemporelles (Janis Joplin, XTC, Elvis Presley...... et Hot Butter), et de B.O (Barry Louis Polisar et son "All I want is you" qui accompagne l'excellent "JUNO"), etc.... pour deux heures [...]

It seems to be quite the trend in the Brit pop scene to cover each others songs, and I noticed the other day that I have a rather sizable collection of these UK artists covering their own contemporaries. The rules for this mix is both both the coverer and the coveree have to be British (duh), and they have to be Modern (no Beatles/Stones/Kinks covers). Particularly, I think the Lily Allen covers are bloody brilliant. It takes some talent to make me fancy a sodding Keane song. Kaiser Chiefs cover of Klaxons is also ace. Download them all below. Today I found out about a new UK quintet that goes by the Miserable Rich . They make beautiful acoustic chamber pop that I find stands up well alongside like-minded artists (and TYS favs) like Lost in the Trees and Brooke Waggoner . One listen was enough for me to start posting this, and even though I know next to nothing about this band, I know I want to pay attention to what they're doing. They have an album out in Europe come March titled 12 Ways to Count , but [...]
