Fuck Knights/G-Biz – Split! 12" EP Kinda cheating here adding this one to the Single Life column, but go with me. It works well here. First up is the Fuck Knights , about as idiotic and amateurish a band name as you're ever gonna find. And no surprise, the Fuck Knights play an intensely sloppy, lo-fi, fuzzed out splatter of garage punk. Oh, were my expectation set low when I dropped the needle on this spinning licorice pizza. Then --woah and behold!-- the Fuck Knights blew [...]

The Mojomatics - Clean My Sins The Mojomatics - Wait A While The Mojomatics' Don't Pretend That You Know Me is a good record – provided you're listening to it right. For me, coming off of a few weeks listening exclusively to experimental electronic and folk bands, this record was exactly what I needed: Yardbirds influenced garage rock, played with real soul and not a single hint of indecision. It's a record that knows exactly what it wants to be, the sort of debut album that [...]
There are probably more beautiful songs. There are songs that more people can probably sing along to. But the way in which "Stealin'" was written and has subsequently been performed makes it an American standard. Of late it seems to have been getting its due as well. Recently, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy took to the stage in NYC and luckily enough the folks from Aquarium Drunkard were there to capture the performance. During the set, BPB and his cohorts included a few versions of old tyme classics – "Stealin'" was one of them. You can find the [...]

I'm really sorry, readers. I feel compelled to commit a breach in album-review etiquette. Under normal circumstances, I should start with a little info about the band and their new album. Then I'd throw some flighty adjectives around about the orchestration of three or four of their songs. At some point I'd probably discuss the emotions evoked by the album upon the listener. THEN I'd give you my final summation. Screw that. Here it is: this album is Fucking Amazing. Capital 'F', capital 'A'. Before I go on (buy the record here) …NOW. [...]

The Mojomatics - Wait A While This duo is Italy's answer to stuff like The White Stripes and The Last Shadow Puppets. It's got MojoMatt singing/playing guitar/harmonica and DavMatic drumming stuff. And so together they make up The Mojomatics . Heh. Geddit? Anyway, they got the bluesy energy infused garage rock deal going on and it's definitely working for them. And it works for me too. Some sweet tunes on their new album Don't Pretend That You [...]
This is what I needed. The Mojomatics are from Italy, and they've got a great garage rock sound. The songs are straight forward, but in a good way. I need a little break from a lot of this avant-garde indie music that I've been into lately. These guys just rock out. Does anyone else hear a little bit of Bob Dylan in the singer's voice? Here's a few songs and the video for "Wait A While". Thanks to Clyde! The Mojomatics - Wait a While The Mojomatics - [...]

Don't Pretend That You Know Me is the new album from Venice, Italy based two man group The Mojomatics , consisting of MojoMatt (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and DavMatic (drums, percussion). The Mojomatics produce a chugging sound of some of the most infectious melodies you've heard in a while, by way of garage rock fused along the way with harmonica and blues/country accents. Don't let the two piece throw you off, because you will forget it by the time you've made you're way through the first song, "Wait A While." The duo released the Devil Got My Woman [...]

Photo By Antonio Campanella Based in Venice, Italy, the band known as The Mojomatics released the Devil Got My Woman EP on Shake Your Ass Records in 2003 and immediately started touring wholeheartedly through Italy and the rest of Europe, mostly as openers. The German label Alien Snatch agreed to release the duo's debut album A Sweet Mama Gonna Hoodoo Me in 2004. (Note: I'm mostly giving this history so I can mention the great album names.) Songs For Faraway Lovers , the second Mojomatics full-length album, was released in 2006 [...]
TV on the Radio's Dear Science has been getting a lot of buzz so if you're "hip" and "with it" you should probably get on that. Genghis Tron is putting out some remixes, Danielson Famile is reissuing some vinyl and if for some reason you need a physical copy of the Girl Talk album that did the pay-your-price thing a while back, that's out too. And (this makes me cringe) the first few Christmas albums are starting to pop up. It's September , people. [...]

...how did I get here? Sometimes too much information is just as bad as no information. Since switching to WordPress I've had an awfully fun and dorky time geeking out over the multitude of options available here. Today, though, already reeling from the fact that my sleep schedule for the past month or so has been so jinkety-jank, I was splashed cold in the face with the reality that 24 Hour Party Pooper is full of epic fail. 1) I made the mistake of checking the traffic stats. This is always [...]
