The Black Keys' Patrick Carney, Jesse Malin, Norah Jones, Sean Lennon, the Strokes' Fab Moretti and Nikolai Fraiture, and many more will descend on NYC's Bowery Ballroom next month for an epic one-night event dubbed simply, "Dylan Fest 2010: A Night To Get Drunk And Celebrate The songs of Bob Dylan!" Everybody must get stoned wasted. According to the event description (via CoS and Time Out New York ), Malin will lead the so-called Cabin Down Below Band for the celebration of Dylan's 69th birthday with an evening of… [...]

Reno Bo , former member of NYC garage rockers, The Mooney Suzuki and Albert Hammond Jr 's band (of The Strokes ), will be releasing his solo debut, Happenings And Other Things on February 9, 2010 on Electric Western Records. Happenings And Other Things is the 1st solo record for Reno Bo and establishes him as a songwriter in his own right. The album is a soulful blend of Beatles / Big Star rock with shades of Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin and Neil Young. [...]
The Von Bondies are one of those outfits that have been floating around for about ten years now. They usually don't pop up on anyone's list of extra-special favorite bands, but somehow they manage to keep a somewhat high-profile, even pulling off a recent guest spot on Letterman.

May 15th @ NYC's Canal Room. Expect appearances by: Mooney Suzuki RZA Goldspot Rachel Platten For further info, head here. MP3: Mooney Suzuki - 99%
It's New York Week next week on the History Channel. That means when you decide to take a break from your relentless rock and roll lifestyle, you'll have something better to watch than Cash Cab (lovin it like I do) as you sink into your couch. Since I am feeling fond of all things New York-related lately , I am going to TiVo this action (it starts November 19th). There's a big contest going on over at their website where you can get whisked off for a 4 day history-themed tour [...]

In this issue's cover story, Circa Survive frontman Anthony Green mentions that Breaking Open the Head – A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism, a book by Daniel Pinchbeck, played a part in inspiring his band's latest record, On Letting Go. The book is a personal memoir chronicling Pinchbeck's experiences with psychedelic drugs. According to the inside flap, the book is "a vivid account of psychic and intellectual [...]

This morning was the Colorado Springs annual street breakfast, which sounds dodgy but means eating good food ("too early for flapjacks?") while sitting on hay bales in the middle of the street downtown. No joke, I actually get up early for this. On this same day last year (always the day before summer officially begins) I posted up my Tanline summer mix , which kept me going all through the hot months. I've been working on this year's mix pretty much since the chills of winter set in (and hung around) as a bit of wishful thinking and longing [...]

It seems like ages since I mentioned The Mooney Suzuki, so let's sum up. I got my first advance of Have Mercy before the new year and was rocking it pretty regularly through the winter. 2007 saw the collapse of V2 records, and Have Mercy was left in label limbo. In January, I previewed a couple tracks , not knowing if or when Have Mercy would ever see the light. It took some time, and a lot of ins, outs, and what have yous, but The Mooney Suzuki's Have Mercy is finally on its way [...]

Hey... happy freaky friday to y'all... It's early in the morning, da birds are chirping, which means I stayed up past everyone's bedtime again...dang me... So ...instead of focusing on the nastiness abounding in the world, I'll find some good to focus in on as the sun starts it's wayward journey high... Hmmm.... where to start... Cal Trans opened up the ramp connecting to 580 off the Bay Bridge last night over the "Mac Arthur Maze" in Oakland a full month ahead of schedule... Pretty Amazing overall... they [...]

1. The Hood Internet offers Spoon vs. Ghostface . Not sure how well this works, but mad points for the concept. 2. Copy, Right? has the Kaiser Chiefs covering "What Time is Love?" (KLF) and Len (remember them? "Steal My Sunshine"?) covering New Edition! It can't get syrupier than that. If syrupier is a word, of course. 3. Aquarium Drunkard has some Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown rarities up for the taking. I used to like [...]
