Despite what you might think this is not another Brian Wilson outtake that has been resurrected, seemingly by chance from its dusty perch in a forgotten outhouse. No this is the work of Josh Wambeke who presides over the Morning Clouds, a particularly lovely set of formations that never look like shedding their watery cargo to dampen the summertime vibes. Signed to the imperious Lefse label the Morning Clouds floated their debut album 'Wasted Youth Blues' to a chorus of adulation late last year. It's easy to see why given the laidback charm of tracks like 'The Wrong Things'. [...]

The Morning Clouds from Arvada in the USA comprises Josh Wambeke (Vocal / Guitar), Lanette Walker (Organ / Synths), Matt Schild (Bass), John Fate (Drums) and Spencer Alred (Guitar). There is a story behind how this shoegaze out-fit centred around Wambeke came in to existence, but to centre on that story is to miss a sublime experience. The Morning Clouds The Morning Clouds perfectly explain the concept of shoegaze. Reflecting back in mirror perfect polish, as only [...]

Imagine if sleep depended on never, ever hurting someone you love. Imagine all the unfortunate, crossed wires that would result in a thousand winkless nights - you, for example, thinking your girl just said 'let's bathe in gravy!', make obvious and appropriate gagging sounds - not understanding that what she actually said was, 'let's have a baby!' and now she's at her mother's and won't talk to you and try and try as you might, you just can't fall asleep... And that's just the accidental, little injuries. What about letting your parents believe you want to be a [...]

Just stumbled upon this track (via it getting sent to me in an electronic mail message) and I thought it was just great. "A Walk Home" is a track from Wasted Youth Blues , the debut EP from fivesome The Morning Clouds , led by Josh Wambeke. It's a slower tune with a Beach House-y vibe that swells into a luscious blanket of musical warmth so I'm clearly on board with it right away. And if that wasn't up your alley, check out the pretty unrecognizable 8+ minute remix from Sad City (which is for [...]

Tweet The Morning Clouds 's Josh Wambeke makes songs that are as lush and teenage-dreamy as Beach House , as pop and sunny as a lazy Beach Boys single, with the ability to lose themselves in the influence of Nirvana and My Blood Valentine . In 2010, having spent a good many years performing in Phineas Gage and Fell , Wambeke began writing music on his own again in his recording studio in [...]
The time has come for me to regurgitate an entire years worth of music on to the digital table so you can pick through the mess and see what I liked and possibly find something you missed or something you agree with or something you've never heard of and suddenly like. As usual there are [...]
*Note: Best dream pop albums of 2011; this list is in no particular order and is based on traffic and feedback (not sales)... may contain personal bias! Youth Lagoon's debut album was one of the most talked about and well praised releases of 2011. It managed to win over indie pop lovers and helped get the dream pop tag attached to countless other releases (for better or worse). However, it didn't have the stark impact of Gem Club's 'Breakers' which managed to create an incredible atmosphere with just vocals and piano. Glass Vaults latest [...]

Download audio file (The-Morning-Clouds_Ends.mp3) Download audio file (The-Morning-Clouds_The-Wrong- Things.mp3) The lyrics of 'Ends' play out like a slow motion argument. They're amazingly relaxed yet full of rage and resentment. Before long the guitar and synth breaks away into an instrumental deep breath before trudging on again. Great [...]
