Welcome to the latest edition of "Freeloader," in which we review albums that you don't have to feel like a douche for downloading for free. Today Satan Rosenbloom reviews a few albums by bands that play their instruments way better than you do. Karkajou – Let There Be Blight (self-released) The members of Michigan three-piece [...]

This new one from Burial and Four Tet just popped up out of nowhere, although, strangely, I'd been listening to the Four Tet album all night… Coincidence? I think not. Don't tell me I don't make things happen. It's a dangerous thing to expect things to be great simply based on past performances, but with Burial and Four Tet we always do, and we're always proved right. "Nova" is predictably far and beyond any sort of normal talent – mixing all the heart of Four Tet and all the precision of Burial into five breathtaking minutes of next-level-ism. [...]

I'm sure everyone has several pieces of music that stick so prominently in the memory, that allows them to remember the time, place and even emotional state they were in when they first heard them. For me, I recall hearing the exquisite bliss of Youth Lagoon's July for the first time; I was in a pretty dire state, having just witnessed several grounding elements of my life spiral out of control or desert me completely. This is all relevant, because my instinct tells me that nine months from now, I'll be recounting a similar story about [...]

London's exlovers first appeared on our radar way back at the start of 2010 with their rather charming You Forget So Easily single and EP. The five-piece have now revealed a new video for Starlight, Starlight ahead of the release of their debut LP, Moth , which is set for release on May 21st via Young & Lost Club . The video was directed Frederick Lloyd (who you may know as multi-instrumentalist Ursine Vulpine ) and you can also pick up the song for free [...]

18-year-old Irish producer MMOTHS (Jack Colleran) released a reworked version of his single '<3' (or 'HEART') featuring Sarah from Grecian duo Keep Shelly In Athens . Although the song is basically the same as the original, KSIA add some heartwarming vocals to the dreamy track. Check out the video for the instrumental version of the song , a beautiful re-scoring of Michelangelo Antonioni's 1970 film Zabriskie Point . Listen to MMOTHS & KSIA's creation below. <3

While many of the choices on the Faces of 2012 list are in their early phases of their creative careers, Jack Colleran has already had an unexpected year that has seen him become one of the most promising new electronic artists, not just in Ireland, but worldwide. In little over a year, Newbridge, Kildare-born Colleran has gone from experimenting with music in his bedroom to attending meetings in LA regarding call his nascent career. It all started one snowy December night at the end of 2010. The snow outside forced the then 17 year-old to stay indoors. He [...]

Two years ago, I ran a series of guest posts from people involved in Irish music featuring their top 5 Irish acts at that moment. This time around, I thought I'd shift the focus to interna...
It's widely accepted that 2010 was a classic year for Irish bands, one that was always going to be difficult to reciprocate. Last year, the Point of Everything did a Best Songs of 2010 list that featured a measly six Irish bands. Looking back, so many more Irish bands deserved [Read more]

If reviews on this site included subheadings then this post's would read 'back-room boys done good?'. A first glance at the credits for this new band suggest that one is looking at a new 'supergroup' in much the same vein as Gary Lightbody's The Raindeer Section , which in its day was a veritable who's-who (or who's-whom, if you prefer) of Scottish musicians. Frightened Rabbit , Arab Strap and Admiral Fallow can all be found in the bloodline of The Moth & The Mirror , but not in the way one would expect. Of [...]
