Moviegoers in select cities will be able to shake, rattle, roll and levitate in their seats as they watch J.J. Abrams' summer sci-fi thriller Super 8. Screenings are slated to take place in about 50 North American theaters that are outfitted with D-Box Motion Code seats. The "motion effects" technology activates pitch, roll and heave movements that shift audience members up, down and sideways in their chairs. "The content of this new picture is an ideal match for our incredibly realistic motion effects," D-Box Technologies CEO Claude McMaster said in [...]
*specifically those attending the 7:10PM Sunday, March 6 showing of Putty Hill by Benn Ray For years, I have heard, rolled my eyes in response to, and defended against complaints from moviegoers about the staff of the Charles Theater. And I will now continue to do so with a renewed vigor. In the years that I've been going to the Charles, I've never once had a problem with the staff who have always been, at worst, functional, and at best, like the staff when I went to see Putty [...]
It's been almost five months since I last posted about The Moviegoers , introducing you to their Lo-Fi Summer Pop sound, and now they've released a video for their single "Avalanche". It's appropriate since it's cold and a lot of the world is covered in snow at the moment, getting trapped on roads or in airports or at Granny's house, and the video is one giant glacial, found-footage-comprising behemoth of snow, ice, ear-warmers, kids, and sleds. It's the complete opposite of the sound, but I suppose you could pretend it's an avalanche of sun, or [...]

Here is the best of our November posts, a perfect mix tape to kick off the festive seasons and a nice reminder before we all get immersed in all those end-of-year top tens/twenties/fifties etc. And as always a couple of new ones too. Twenty five great tracks. Enjoy. Download Outer Minds - Until You're Dead mp3 Pristine nugget of 60s inspired garage rock, twangy rough-cut harmonies, a perfect hook and wall of sound noise. Download Secret Colours - In The Absence mp3 Chiming guitars, hypnotic percussion [...]

Here again is a short round-up of some of the better new releases we've come across recently. Once again, they all deserve more in the way of a narrative, but time can be a hard taskmaster on occasion. First up is the rather strangely named EP's Trailer Park and their strangely compelling folk song tribute to Mario Vargas Llosa - this year's Nobel Laureate in Literature. Just in time for the holidays, The Moviegoers unleash a nostalgic and trippy video for "Avalanche," the outstanding B-Side to their recent "Big High School" 73 single .

by teepoo The Moviegoers is made up of Richard Hunter-Rivera (vocals, guitar), Jessica Monday (vocals, keyboards), Jordan Heimer (bass, vocals) and Carlos Robles (drums). They draw their influences from the land of San Diego, where they were formed. Their sound is also reminiscent of 90s indie rock. The track Avalanche is off their debut 73 called Big High School . The track is a more down tempo song that mixes the 90s rock sound with some neo-experimental shoegaze elements. The Moviegoers- [...]

These are the ten best tracks we heard this week. Since this is unofficially Arcade Fire week around these parts, we figured we would lead off with the first track off their new album. Expect more on those guys before the big release of The Suburbs , out next Tuesday. Go on to the bottom of the list to pick up the entire mix as a single track. When a band can manage to combine the melodies of The Beach Boys, the guitar-noise of mid 90s grunge, and the vocals of Echo And The Bunnymen in one 3:26 song, and make it work seemlessly, chances are that when you get to 3:27 you're just gonna hit repeat. That's how The Moviegoers roll on the A-side song for their upcoming 73 single. The A-Side is "Big High School", the aforementioned Beach Boys/Grunge/Bunnymen-like song, the B-side being "Avalanche", more downbeat and sparse, the words reverberate as the guitar and drums get progressively [...]

I wrote about the Moviegoers last EP "Or The Gun" last summer and I was a really big fan of it, and since then they have dropped a new EP titled 'Be A Man' (see above) and have also come out with this brand new track "Show Me The Way". They continue to show a mastery of the indie-pop sound and are able to put all the pieces together in a melodious package with the best of them. The new song "Show Me The Way" is a lo-fi-ish slow acoustic methodical burner that has some cool spacy-ness [...]
