To announce the departing of long time band member Jonnie Russell due to his desire to return to school the band has released 2 new tracks and 2 videos to introduce their new guitarist former Modest Mouse and Murder City Devil's guitarist Dann Gallucci. But really we should call it 1 1/2 new tracks since "Minimum Mistake" is more of a reprise for "Minimum Day". Both videos feature the free-form dancing of Julia Fenton with small glimpses of the new line up. The songs themselves are a little sub par for the band and are missing the [...]

Woot! Three months in a row! I think it's fair to say I've gotten my groove back with the ninebullets podcast. This month's show features the Ninebullets Radio/Ninebullets Podcast theme song written and performed by my buddy through music, Todd Ferrell. I'd love to know what y'all think of it. I think it has a solid Nashville Pussy feel to it and love it accordingly. The show also features the brand new Lucero track called "Sometimes" as well as new music from The Porter Draw , Greenland Is Melting [...]

"Every Day I Rise", the first new single from The Murder City Devils in over a decade was released last week by the band. The two track 73 was recorded this past summer and features the tunes "Every Day I Rise" and "Ball Busters In The Peanut Gallery". Pressed in an edition of 2000 copies, initial demand for the record was so high that the band has already had to repress, but it should be available again in mid-March on white & black marbled vinyl from the band's store for $5. Purchase of the [...]
Though you still might be able to snag a physical 73 of the first new music by the Murder City Devils in a decade down at Sonic Boom in Ballard, via the band's own online store they went like the proverbial hotcakes. (Or maybe weedcakes?) In "Every Day I Rise" Moody laments "Every day I [...]

Seattle punk rock crew Murder City Devils have toured the country sporadically since reuniting in 2006. Now, as 107.7 The End points out, the band has revealed their first pieces of new music in over a decade with the release of a two-song single. Recorded last summer in Southern California, "Everyday I Rise" and" Ball Busters in the Peanut Gallery" are now available digitally and as a limited-edition 73 vinyl (as you can see above) via the band's website . Right now, you can preview "Everyday I Rise" at 107.7 The End's website . The band's [...]

Not a whole lot to report here, but The Murder City Devils have announced their first new music in 10 years. The seminal rock band has a new single with two brand new tracks, recorded last summer, titled "Every Day I Rise" and "Ball Busters In The Peanut Gallery." The single is available to order physically here now and will be released digitally on iTunes next week. No word on whether this is a one off or whether this indicates more new music from The Murder City Devils.

I had a wordy, descriptive post planned for recommending Murder City Devils as a must see at Fun Fun Fun Fest 2011, then I came across this video from their 2007 performance..Let it speak for itself. A rare opportunity to see this great band. Murder City Devils play the Black Stage Friday 11/4 @ 7:20 p.m.

This band could be your life. Working the aesthetics of '80s blue collar punk rock, The Garrison's meat-and-potatoes snarl is reflective of the scene in which they play. For every Josh Krajcik/singer-songwriter opting for the open mic nights at clubs like Woodlands and Rumba Cafe, there's a half dozen noisy, guitar-rockers pounding out music that inspires fist-pumping and slam dancing in venues that require hazmat suits to enter the bathrooms. MP3: The Garrison - "Greely Chapel" Like thrash metal, there's a certain timeless [...]

What could be cooler than having a band write a song about you in tribute? Well, as long as the song is complimentary of course. Here's some toonage that fits the subject! Toonage: "Grant Hart" - The Posies "Strummerville"- Stiff Little Fingers "The Replacements" - Tommy Womack "Johnny's Gonna Die" - The Replacements (live July 1982)
Still one of music's best kept secrets, Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest has been pulverizing ear drums for the past five years with a genre bending lineup mixing rock, metal, hip hop, and comedy. This year's bill is no different, with metal titans Slayer, iconic hip-hop outfit Public Emeny, dance pop maestros Passion Pit, synth master M83, and a Danzig Legacy set (Danzig/Samhain/Danzig & Doyle Perform Misfits) topping the bill. Set for November 5-6 at Auditorium Shores, this year's edition also promises Rakim, Major Lazer, Okkervil River, Kid Dynamite, Flying Lotus, the [...]

Hootenanny 2011 brought the heat on stage and off this past weekend. The annual festival is held in Oak Canyon, just east or Irvine. Artists pictured include Dropkick Murphys, The Reverend Horton Heat, Murder City Devils, Supersuckers, Royal Crown Revue, Swingin Utters and Viva Hate. Photos from July 2, 2011 by Carlton Beener. Living in Florida there are somethings you come to accept. It is the heat and the humidity, some wise ass is gonna ask if it's "hot enough for you", hurricanes will form and weathermen will almost rub one out on screen warning you of them impending doom while never a stiff breeze even comes and odds are, some of the bands you love will never tour your state. Over the years I've logged I dunno how many thousands of miles in travel just to see rock and rolls with bands I know will never make it to Florida which brings [...]

What do you do after you've nailed multiple genres and been in highly-respected bands like Murder City Devils and Pretty Girls Make Graves? You change it up again, of course. Derek Fudesco, of the previously mentioned bands, is now a member of The Cave Singers. Their third album No Witch dropped this week. It's a folksy romp of an album full of understated guitars and melodies that could bring the Hatfields and McCoys together for an afternoon luncheon. It made me want to drink a bottle of moonshine and [...]

The San Diego trio's name is music to our eyes. Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

Yeah. We've all been there. And your ladies of The Steam Co. are here to support you in your time of need. This mix is for the lovely and always refreshingly honest Courtney K., who would like to get some this weekend. To her we say, "get it gurrrrrrl," and enjoy this mix while you do. "The XX "You Got The Love (Florence and the Machine Cover)" "Twin Sister - Dry Hump" "Metric - The Twist" "Active Child - Wilderness" [...]

Last year I went to over 30 shows. The year before that was largely the same but one thing never changes....no matter how many shows you go to, there are bands you wanna see live but just don't. The reasons may vary. Some break up before you can catch them (Murder City). Some price their tickets too high (Beasties) and some might even refuse to tour your state as is the case with one Mr. Justin Townes Earle and Florida (though I managed to catch him at SxSW). So that's the basis for this weeks Top 5: Band you have [...]
With a metal kid's dream line-up of both Obits, JEFF The Brotherhood, headliners Murder City Devils and openers (and Marcie Bolan from The Von Bondies' new project) Silverghost to open the day, this past Sunday's fire-hot weather and endless free Amp energy drinks to keep us company the whole day through-a bunch of our friends [...]
