As previously reported, ATP UK curated by Jeff Mangum has been postponed from December 2011 to March 9-11th, 2012. As a result, there are a few changes to the previously announced lineup, which the festival revealed today. To start, Panda Bear, Tinariwen, Superchunk, Group Inerane, The Mountain Goats, and Colin Stetson are all unable to play the new date and have been removed from the bill. What's more, the festival is still speaking to Fleet Foxes, Sun Ra Arkestra and Micachu And The Shapes and hopes to confirm their participation soon. As [...]

The thing about Pop music is (and I'm using the word Pop in the broadest and most generalized way possible) that it is all largely the same. The names and faces may change but the instrumentation, time/key signatures, song form, lyrical themes, and content delivery are all pretty much the same. Sometimes this bothers me - a lot. But the fact remains that when a Pop artist works well within this structure, it is a moving experience regardless of the surrounding mediocrity. The Music Tapes [...]

by Rachel Kowal The metronome at an earlier show on the tour ( more by Tim Griffin ) Given the number of reunion tours that have come through over the past few years, it can be hard to keep track of just who's together and who's defunct for good. When I told a friend what bands I went to see at Le Poisson Rouge last night (9/21), his eyebrows wrinkled in confusion. "I thought they stopped playing like ten years [...]
Monday Afternoon Quick Fix runs every Monday afternoon to showcase the best of Chicago music news, views and stories from around the interwebs and blogosphere that we might have missed. • NPR is now streaming the new Wilco album, The Whole Love . • Jim DeRogatis has another installment of the highly entertaining The Vortis Diaries on his WBEZ blog that details their problematic gig earlier this month at Subterranean . • Greg Kot profiles local R&B/hip hop/jazz up-and-comers Kids These Days for [...]

Frank Yang It's not especially unusual for bands active in the '90s to be doing the reunion thing these days - it's more unusual when a band who had any kind of following 15 to 20 years ago to NOT at least feel out the market for a comeback - but an extra degree of excitement is warranted when you're talking about the Elephant 6 collective. Now granted, when you're talking about a scene as broad and loose as E6 was/is, it can be argued that it never went away and sure, Of Montreal [...]

Now on Tour By Julie Stoller The Olivia Tremor Control & The Music Tapes Mon, Sept 19, 2011 - Brighton Music Hall The trippy and experimental psych-folk Olivia Tremor Control are playing their first shows since 2005, where they will be previewing some new music from a forthcoming album due out early next year. It will be their first since 1999's Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume [...]

We had an extra special ticket giveaway for The Olivia Tremor Control concert last week. Normally, we just ask for some entires and pick entirely at random, but such an awesome band as OTC and the amazing people of The Carnegie Museums and The Warhol demand something more exciting! With two levels of prizes for this one, we asked YOU, the valued reader, to submit some type of story or memory of The Olivia Tremor Control for 2 free tickets and a signed CD, and us DUL guys (and gals) would come [...]

The Olivia Tremor Control, with The Music Tapes / New Hazlett Theater / Thursday 09.15.2011 / 8:00 / $12-$15 Words by Brendan This is by far the coolest giveaway we have done here at Draw Us Lines. First off, we are incredibly psyched that The Olivia Tremor Control are back on the scene, making their first new music since 1999, playing their first live shows in nearly as long, and choosing to swing through Pittsburgh on this tour. I fell into the inviting musical lap of [...]

Date Wednesday, August 31st Location Mohawk Doors 630PM Tickets $10 from Frontgate If you've been listening to indie rock for the last two decades or so, you've probably heard of Olivia Tremor Control . They're part of the Elephant 6, the collective that spawned Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal . They'll even have [...]
Elephant 6 band Olivia Tremor Control has reunited, and the group's upcoming North American tour comes to the Great American Music Hall on September 5th (8pm, $17). Joining the celebrated psych-pop group on the tour are E6 compatriots The Music Tapes , who, last month, released the EP, Purim's Shadows (The Dark Tours the World) , on Merge. The Music Tapes - "Majesty" No word yet on Jeff Mangum heading west, but there are folks at TBB [...]

The Olivia Tremor Control The Olivia Tremor Control are back and reportedly working on a new release. Previously confirmed to play the December Jeff Mangum-curated ATP UK , the band has now confirmed a full North American tour with fellow Elephant 6er The Music Tapes (aka Julian Koster of Neutral Milk Hotel). The tour includes FYF Fest , MusicfestNW and a NYC show on September 21 [...]

Tape Warm are from Sao Paulo in Brail and specialise in analog disco. They are from that cosmic disco/Moroder thing that's so present now. They say that Tape Warm is A person who is very knowledgeable about music, from any genre, from the mid 802s to the mid 902s when digital audio tapes were in heavy circulation . Not quite my definition but whatever. They have a new tune out - Silver Copy. The original of Silver Copy is all Moroder and 70s disco funk. Pleasant enough. But the real winner is the DJ Zeyhan mix. This gives [...]

There's a certain magic to be felt any time a band can bring a group of people together in song, whether it's from an album playing or a live performance. Neutral Milk Hotel provides prime source material for group song, especially from their record, In An Aeroplane Over the Sea . I've seen people bust out in unison to their songs in hotel rooms, at dinner parties, and at punk shows; there really seems to be no bound to their audience. Perhaps you may be sad at the reality of no future NMH shows; the group [...]

It was just after 10 p.m. last Tuesday night when I got word that The Music Tapes were playing in Hyde Park. Actually, it was the last of three thirty-minute sets in three Chicago homes as part of the band's Lullaby Tour, and it would begin in less than 30 minutes. There was no way I could make the ten mile bike ride in that time, so instead I comforted myself by listening to The Music Tapes' discography, enjoying a few beers in my warm apartment, and re-sparking an old obsession. The [...]
Guess it's a week to talk about comebacks from the world of hip-hop, as Lauryn Hill has announced a ten-date Northeast tour that will kick off at the Higher Ground in Burlington, VT on December 18. The semi-reclusive Hill, who is rumored to be working on the long-awaited follow up to her seminal debut The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill , emerged this past summer to play a handful of shows as part of the Rock The Bells tour to favorable reviews. Hill will focus [...]

Ground Control So maybe some of you heard that Jeff Mangum, that guy who used to be in that one band, played a surprise show of Neutral Milk Hotel tunes to a Brooklyn crowd of about 75 this past weekend ( MP3s or it didn't happen ). And while that's a pretty cool thing in and of itself, not to mention giving those in attendance bragging rights in certain circles for the rest of their lives, that it happened just before word that the Elephant 6 collective of which the Neutral [...]

Frank Yang With a wealth of options on the Toronto social calendar last Friday night, I rather feared that posting up Lee's Palace might draw the short end of the stick. I didn't know how much draw Junip would have, but I needn't have worried. With their main attraction - frontman José Gonzalez - having not released a new record under his own name in some three years, there was apparently a good amount of pent-up appetite to see and hear him in any configuration. Happily, this resulted in a [...]
