On Black Up , Shabazz Palaces take hip hop deep into the left field with odd beats and surreal effects. It's definitely an indulgent LP that requires a little bit of effort from the listener, but repeating these songs until they completely unfold is worth the wait. Last month, the Department of Homeland Security officially discontinued its Special Registration program, which "required thousands of Arab and Muslim men to register with the authorities, in an effort to uncover terror links and immigration violations," Sam Dolnick at The New York Times explains . So far, the death toll is up to 20 people. This event and its aftermath is illustrative of the problems of conflicting religions in free societies. Yet the postive feedback was overwhelming, and the story took on a life of its own. The novel introduces us to the fictional inhabitants of a Buffalo-based Muslim punk house as they live out lives that adhere to a less than traditional version of Islam.
