On Sunday, April 29th, IHEARTCOMIX and FYF are teaming up to bring you Memphis bred, Portland based crust punks, Tragedy. Following the demise of influential crust punk groups His Hero is Gone and Deathreat, Tragedy has been respected for years within the DIY hardcore scene and have been know for their heavy, apocalyptic presence. Expect doom and chaos with a mix or melodic undertones, as well as a mass riot on the floor. Tragedy will be performing at the Echoplex alongside Nails, Skin Like Iron, and Children of [...]
Having had a reaction due to the ingestion of a certain plant-based substance, I once rampaged my way through several boxes of crackers, leading my housemates to dub me "Cracker Vacuum." (it was later translated into Chinese as the far more sonically palatable Bin Gone Kon). Munchies-inspired nicknames aside, crackers are delightful and the addition of cheese was a great moment in humankind. My enjoyment of this combination has been tempered of late by my concern that – based on knowledge gleaned from numerous viewings of Blade Runner – I might be a [...]
Few artists in electronic music have mastered grimy electronic the same way Pictureplane has. His newest track is about a trend that seems to go around goth and industrial circles - Black Nails. The video itself is visually abstract, and appears to have been inspired by Terminator. (Remember that guy that could turn into liquid metal? Yeah, the hands look like that. I dig it.) Pictureplane isn't quite darkwave, witch, or coldwave. The beats are distinctly late 90s trance and rave, but more compressed. The tonality of everything hops around like some disco-era stuff. Perhaps that's [...]

You know that little buzz you get when you hear a new band for the first time and you feel instantly and utterly smitten? I hope you do, because it's just about the best feeling you can get. It's also one that hit me when listening to Weird Dreams for the first time a few months ago. The four-piece make lo-fi, hazy, slightly off-kilter, pop music and while that sort of description may be sounding all too familiar at present, there is something that little bit special about Weird Dreams that separates them from the rest of the [...]
. . . Nails' Unsilent Death (Southern Lord, 2010) initially put me off because of its mastering. That sounds petty, but boy does that "fat" snare sound annoy me now. And this long-running trend to make everything into a loud pancake - in 50 years, I swear, the only music will be Whitehouse. But I've come around. Mission: ignore fat snare and over-loud mastering, unearth music. Mission accomplished. With 10 songs in 14 songs, Unsilent Death is a weapon that does one thing: beat you. IN WHICH WE MADE OUR FIRST HARDCORE SONG
via Topless Robot I would give anything for that to be the actual James Bond theme music from now on, wouldn't you? ANYWAY, here's some shit we did this week: We spoke to Neige from Alcest and SL from The Devil's Blood. Lazarus A.D.'s Jeff Paulick got pissed the Packers losing. We checked out the [...]
INCH SCRAPER: HARDCORE 7″ REVIEWS OF FATAL BIRTH, NAILS, NO TOLERANCE, AND SKIN LIKE IRON
On this attention-grabbing co-released split with savage core-mongers Nails, Skin Like Iron further embrace the quasi-blackened rock n roll tinkered with on last year's Arrival (review), which shook me harder than a teen mom. Hooky and sinister, "Disappear" should at last endear them to the metal audience. Nails, conversely, do what Nails do, which is [...]
LISTEN TO THIS NAILS/SKIN LIKE IRON SPLIT
Nails and Skin Like Iron are releasing a split 73 at the end of the month. Our resident hardcore expert, Gary Suarez, is reviewing the split for a future installment of the new "Inch Scraper" column, and while I haven't read that review yet, I'm gonna predict that it's most likely positive, since a) Skin [...]

Peter Wolf Crier – Hard As Nails
Tweet A brewing storm that we eventually get to experience in all its ferocity, thankfully 'Hard As Nails' also has a wealthy heart. While it pounds our face another selection of its multi-limbed persona cradles our bruised body. Shock and awe you could call it although it is the latter that you'll take to bed with you. Peter Wolf Crier is the sound of a duo, Peter Pisano and Brian Moen, who have mileage on their clocks from other creatives yet they [...]
