Turns out Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey aren't the only ones spending the first week of 2012 in a bed in a medical facility. "Fight For You" crooner Jason Derulo tweeted a pic of himself laying down while wearing a hospital gown and a neck brace last night. "I fractured my neck doing tumbling & acrobatics 4 tour! Always tryin 2 push boundaries 4 YOU! Like my new chain? ;)" Oh, Jason — you jokester. We'd laugh, but we don't want to strain our own necks, which are in pain just from looking at [...]

I had the opportunity to see King RA performing at a #GardenVariety show in Trenton, and was impressed by his lyrical acumen and defiant spirit. I wasn't too familiar with his music, aside from a random video, so to get this mixtape in the (e)mail the other day was a beautiful thing. He really puts his stamp on any beat he touches, and DJ DJaz 's cuts/blends really bring something special to this project as well. Short on features, but long on a dope MC getting his shit off, you might wanna face [...]

A new Necks epic? On Markus Detmer 's great Staubgold ? Don't mind if I do... Just under 30 minutes of untypically guitar-laced build form the centrepiece of the forthcoming Strade Trasparenti soundtrack. S nappy by Necks standards, the piece still summons real heft along the way - much supported by its raspy, filigree-ing augmentation (not quite as much of a broadening of [...]
The Necks, an Australian trio who's been recording music for more then thirty years, is just what I need right now. I've been listening lately to their wonderful 1998 release The Boys (A soundtrack to a film in the same name), and I gotta say that in night time walks with my deaf dog, Oren the King [...]

Let's talk about Necks , baby (ahem). Or rather, let's talk about Abrahams, Buck & Swanton. When they're not being the planet-bestriding, genre-destroying The Necks, do the trio's members, er, pull their necks in? Unequivocally, unsurprisingly not. Solo or in collaboration [...]

![TLOBF Interview // Chris Abrahams [The Necks]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2698977_lg.jpg)
Chris Abrahams is probably one of the finest modern pianists I've ever had the good fortune of seeing perform live. As part of the trio that is The Necks, his, sometimes, solitary exploration of what you can do with a concert grand piano is a sight to behold. With the release of his solo album, Play Scar , this month, I had the chance to chat with Chris the night after playing the launch show in his native Australia. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, and very few teething problems, we chatted casually about The [...]
There is an expectant hush as I approach my keyboard. I remove my ring, place it to one side. I sit, head bowed, waiting. Waiting. Waiting for inspiration. Waiting for an idea, a theme, some sort of motif around which the review can be built. Waiting. Waiting. Finally, it comes. Slowly I tap out the [...]

Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner have been spending lots of time together recently - but nothing tops full on making out in a car. The two were spotted making out in the back of a vintage car, just like they did back in high school. [ Click thumbnails for a larger view ] [...]

Jeremy R. Jansen A birthday party is a bit of an odd time to announce a memorial, but such was the case this past February when, at the end of the successful 9th anniversary bash for Toronto's venerable Wavelength weekly music series, it was announced that the 2010, 10th anniversary shows would also mark the final edition of the showcase... at least in its present form. While the weekly showcases are ending, the Wavelength marque and ethos will continue on via monthly showcases and one-off events, thus ensuring that the stages that gave [...]
The minimal, repetitive jazz of Australian trio The Necks often runs to great length. Really great length. We're talking Schlingen-Blängen long. On the one hand this is great as, hey, it's fantastic stuff. On the other, it makes the group rather daunting if you've never heard their stuff before. Where to begin? I may have the answer right here for you. He Led Them Into The World is taken from The Necks' 1998 album The Boys , a soundtrack to the film of the same name. [...]
In concert, as evidenced on last year's live album Townsville, the Necks are masters of the painstakingly restrained build, working up economical sections of melody and rhythm, gradually sliding them together over the course of an hour long set. UK performances have seen them still nominally billed as a jazz trio, performing in the likes [...]
