Goldmund — Shenandoa

Albummet med titlen All Will Prospe r udkommer omkring den 14. novemeber (foreløbig dato). Det vil bestå af række fortolkninger af folkesange fra den amerikanske borgerkrig — en periode, Kenniff har en særlig interesse for. Tracklisten [...]

Evidence- "Strangers"

Evidence- "Strangers" Hey, everyone! Hope you're well. Anthony Fantano, here. Internet's Busiest Music Nerd. You know! Alright, it's time for another track review. Punching them out right now, and I'm getting to talking about an artist I promised I'd lay an opinion on: Evidence. This dude is a West Coast MC, and I've been conscious of this buy for a little while. A friend of mine in college turned me on to Dilated Peoples, which kinda fit my hunger for conscious hip hop at the time. However, for some reason, I didn't really stick with these guys and Evidence like [...]

Azarath- "Firebreath of Blasphemy and Scorn"

Azarath- "Firebreath of Blasphemy and Scorn" Hello, my Needle Drops. Wow, that looks weird typed to me. Well, let's move on. Track review time. 'Nother text one. Hey, when y'all read this, do you hear it in your heads as my voice? Weird, right? Right now, we're focusing on a track from a death metal album I was smitten with a few weeks back: Azarath's Blasphemers' Maledictions . These guys are from Poland, and this is their fifth album if I'm correct. In previous reviews, I've been really open about my thoughts on death metal. I've got a bigger crush on [...]

Phonte- "Sendin My Love"

Phonte- "Sendin My Love" Hey, everybody. Trying out this text thing for a quick second so I can get it together and talk about a few records that sorta fell by the wayside for me. In this post, I'd like to talk up the new Phonte album a little bit. The title of this album is Charity Starts at Home , and I was pretty sure I'd review it the day it dropped. But September 27th proved to be way too saturated with new releases and this LP wasn't holding my attention like I hoped it would. [...]

Goldmund- "Shenandoah"

MP3 Taking inspiration from the American Civil War, Goldmund's latest album is a series of piano-interpreted folk songs from that era. "Shenandoah" is the first song to drop from the album, and it glimmers with beauty and hope. The acoustic guitar playing-which is a surprising and welcome addition for a Goldmund album-adds a lot more flavor than I expected. This dude, Keith Kenniff, really has a great ear for melody. This album, All Will Prosper , is set to drop on Western Vinyl , and is currently up for pre-order.

Feist- Metals

Feist- Metals ALBUM REVIEW
On her latest album, Metals , Canadian singer-songwriter Leslie Feist brings a set of songs that feel much older than the tracks that were on her last album, the Reminder . That album was released only four years ago, but Metals ' dreary, grey aesthetic makes the distance between these two albums feel so much wider. WATCH THE REVIEW

Youth Lagoon- The Year of Hibernation

Youth Lagoon- The Year of Hibernation New audio album review! Yes! Just like the Big Troubles review , I'm accompanied by my good friend Derek Ljongquist. First off, I want to APOLOGIZE for the terrible quality of this audio recording. I had technical difficulties recording this Skype conversation, and I find it funny that I review records despite the fact that I can't get a simple Skype convo recorded correctly. Ah, mistakes ! Well, I'm determined to make this shiz happen, so let's continue: This review, my friend and I are talking about the new Youth Lagoon album [...]

R. Stevie Moore Just Sampled Me?

Needle Drop by R. Stevie Moore It seems my voice turns up in a big way on R. Stevie Moore's latest Bandcamp release, Space Bar . I'm all over the last track for some reason. I know I name-checked him in the review, but I'm pretty sure the guy knows I'm a fan. I mean, I've even bought music off of him via e-mail. I dunno. I just think it's hilarious. And to be honest, I've partially forgotten what review he's even sampling, hah. I think it's my Ariel Pink review, but I [...]

Wild Flag- Self-Titled

Wild Flag- Self-Titled ALBUM REVIEW
Wild Flag's self-titled debut album is a light, fun, and upbeat reformation for these indie rock veterans. I think some longtime fans-especially those in the Sleater-Kinney camp-will expect a little bit more. That's fine and understandable. I feel the same way to an extent. However, after several listens, the simplicity of this album no longer bugged me. Instead, it made this album catchy and invigorating. These ladies know what complicated music is, and this project is obviously a conscious effort to make something more straightforward, you know? This album is a handful of tracks that [...]
