Oh boy. I just wrapped shooting a two-hour interview for a documentary about men and relationships. A friend is working on the project and asked to shoot some friends and I answering the director's questions, which ranged from "Why are men afraid of commitment" to "How would you help a man learn to be more [...]

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across an underground '80s synth movement sometimes referred to as "minimal wave" and for some reason, decided it was amazing. My uncontrollably impulsive late-night nature subsequently led me to go out and buy Cold Waves + Minimal Electronics Volume One , a new compilation of previously buried tracks which dropped last month courtesy of Wierd Records (ego note: it's meant to be "ie" in this instance...ahem) and Angular Recording Co. After marvelling at the beautiful digipak artwork and deciding I was definitely going to watch Tron later, I shoved the [...]
I still don't remember it ever being called 'cold wave' or 'minimal synth' but I am glad that the early pioneers of SynthPop are getting a bit of attention these past few months (and that the sound is being carried on by a new batch of artists!). Angular Recording Corporation has enlisted the help of two men who spearheaded this revival, Pieter Schoolwerth, founder of Wired Records and Angular's own Joe Daniel to compile 17 tracks of classic Futurist Pop for their forthcoming 'Cold Waves And Minimal Electronics Vol.1'. Spanning 1981-1985 and digging out [...]

Since the early eighties, TB Frank and Dirk Da Davo have been the creative forces that have made The Neon Judgement a household name in circles where musical narrow-mindedness is not considered a bonus. Emerging vibrant and violent from the small town Leuven near Brussels, in the early eighties, they started to build up their own sound. Considered, along with their Belgian peers Front 242 , to be one of the original pioneering EBM bands, Neon Judgement fleshed out their herky-jerky rhythms with guitar and droning vocals. Their early work combined low-fi technology and emotional [...]

Lorenz Rhode - Tronic Matic Lorenz Rhode - A Little Something To me it [...]

Who else is going crazy about the new Lifelike 12" Sunset/Sequencer? It is so damn nice. Vulture always and forever. Get in the mood. The Neon Judgement - Miss Brown (Lifelike Remix) MYSPACE

Welcome me back to the 99% humidity everyone! I could sure use some more vacation, but there's no more time for fucking around, Palms Out is opening a goddamn store!! I'm back with a slew of remixes from acts featured at this year's fantastic Roskilde Festival. Maybe not the absolute best of my 6 times at the festival, but more than worth the $180 for a ticket. However, it's pretty hard to beat 2003 when Bjork played right after Massive Attack which was right after Queens of the Stone Age on the last night of a festival that included just [...]
