We have the greatest of pleasures in announcing the new Ani DiFranco album. The new album is called ¿Which Side Are You On? and marks DiFranco's first studio album in more than three years. The collection features 11 new songs alongside a radically reworked rendition of the classic title song, famously popularized by the one and only Pete Seeger nearly five decades ago, but no less relevant today. Backing DiFranco is a remarkably diverse line-up of stellar musicians, including members of her own crack touring band as well as such guest players as Ivan and Cyril Neville (of New Orleans' [...]

How about some more colour in your lives? You know you need some. So come in, Aaron... "Oh yellow moon can you tell me, if the girl's with another man?" Sets the tone for yet another diverse hand picked six pack for your listening pleasure, coloured yellow this time. There's no denying that it's been already been a long and brutal winter here in New York City, and we're barely a week into February. There is really only one thing that will keep our seasonal depression to an minimum and that's getting out and listening to some feel-good music. Who better to provide the tunes than the funky Meters ? The New Orleans-based act is guaranteed to help you forget about those large piles of gray slush and mystery puddles, with their brand of Big Easy ass-shaking music. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music As the audience at New York's Bowery Ballroom waited for Daniel Lanois ' Black Dub to take the stage Wednesday evening, they talked about -- what else -- Lanois himself. A lot of words pop up in conversation about the musician and legendary arranger: "genius," "passionate," "survivor," "respected." But, once Black Dub walked on and tore into 'Love Lives' from their recently released self-titled album, all the hyperbole melted away, replaced [...]

Filed under: News Last weekend, Aaron Neville found the perfect venue for his soulful, romantic songs -- his own wedding. On Nov. 13, the 'Don't Know Much' crooner tied the knot with photographer Sarah A. Friedman. The two exchanged vows in front of 15 people at New York restaurant Eleven Madison Park, People.com reports. Neville's longtime pastor Reverend Tony Ricard officiated the intimate ceremony and the celebration continued with a sit-down dinner complete with salmon, Black Angus [...]

Our Labor Day rock-a-thon continues with more singles on 45. This time let's listen to some rock and roll siblings. We've already spun a few sibling acts: the Carpenters , with brother and sister Richard and Karen, as well as Phil and Don, better known as the Everly Brothers . Let's begin with the first family of New Orleans: the Neville Brothers . You've probably seen us rant about how the Nevilles should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . [...]
[Birthday greetings go out today to Régine Chassagne of Arcade Fire ...] Top 3 reasons to go out and play tonight: ☛ Acoustic guitar shredders Rodrigo y Gabriela (that's their video for "Hanuman," above) play the Greek Theatre, joined by Xavier Rudd . ☛ Childish Gambino raps at the Bootleg Theater. That's the hip-hop alter-ego of actor/comedian Donald Glover of the TV show "Community." ☛ Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs headline Spaceland, where Mike McCready [...]

I don't really watch much TV, but this year I couldn't help but be sucked into HBO's The Wire. In my opinion, it's the best show ever created, and here's why. On the surface, it's a series about drug crime in Baltimore. However, the real point is how the game's players - dealers, police, politicians, street kids, informants - interact with the institutions they're attached to. While those relationships are sometimes positive, the series spends alot of time showing how people get fucked over by their team. Loyal gang members get a bullet in the back of the head, smart [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Television , All About Jazz Last week I promised to get the lowdown on the recurring line from ' Treme ' about "pride on Bourbon Street" from real-life Treme trombonist and trumpeter Troy " Trombone Shorty " Andrews. But first, let's catch up on this real-life musician who appears in the show's first few episodes and also has a new album entitled 'Backatown.' While his roots are in the music and culture of New [...]

Guess everyone's talking about New Orleans today. So in honor of the Saints in the Super Bowl, and Mardi Gras, let's take a brief look at two albums with virtually the same title: Fire On The Bayou by the Meters, and Fiyo On The Bayou , by the Neville Brothers. The Meters are, of course, one of the greatest bands ever. That they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is one of the true injustices in this world, and proof positive that the people running that Hall are trend-chasing lackeys who are [...]

Oh yeah ... all those years when nobody else cared about the Saints, it was "Who Dat? Nation" and "Who Dat?" dis and "Who Dat?" dat. Now the NFL is claiming "Who Dat" is copyrighted, or it's a trademark, or something. Now that the New Orleans Saints are in the Super Bowl, the NFL is seizing"Who Dat?" - oh wait ... "Who Dat?™" - in hopes of feeding its already bloated billion-dollar enterprise. Who Dat?™ who's greedy? The NFL, dat's Who Dat?™! In other news, our great friend and awesome photographer Art [...]

Filed under: News , New Music Even before the Chicago Bears recorded their now-famous 'Super Bowl Shuffle,' the New Orleans Saints had an anthem of their own. Of course, the 1983 Saints, who went 8-8 on the season, didn't fare as well as the 1985 Super Bowl champion Bears, so 'Who Dat?' never made it out of the huddle. But now that the 2009 Saints are headed for the biggest NFL game, the club has an updated anthem -- and native son Aaron Neville is singing the Saints' praises once [...]
