Four days ago, Handsome Furs announced their breakup . But Dan Boeckner, the Wolf Parade co-leader who made up half of that duo, didn't take too long to get a new project going. Boeckner is now one of the three members of a new L.A.-based indie supergroup called Divine Fits. The debonair Spoon frontman Britt Daniel is also a part of it, as is Sam Brown, drummer for the Ohio trash-punk greats New Bomb Turks. The new band plans to release a debut album later this year on Merge , and they're working with producer Nick Launay. Right [...]
Look for an album from the supergroup on MERGE RECORDS later this year. Says the press release, "The album was was produced by Nick Launay. The line-up for this year's Goner Fest , the Memphis garage-rock festival put on by the label and record store of the same name, was recently announced. Now in its seventh year, this year's Goner Fest, which will run from September 22 to 26, is highlighted by the return of Guitar Wolf (pictured), the storied louder-than-loud Japanese rockers whose first American album, Wolf Rock , was released by Goner in 1993. A very loose underground scene, with bands sharing stages and labels who were musically as far apart from each other as the Dwarves from Man Or Astroman or Dead Moon from Rocket From The Crypt.
