One of my favourite new bands back in 2007/2008 were New York indie rockers, The Virgins. Their self-titled debut album from 2008 is still one of my favourite pick-me-up albums. Just last week, the band shared a link to their Bandcamp on their Facebook page. To my surprise, The Virgins provided a stream and free download to their latest musical creation, "Island Girl". You could be forgiven for mistaking The Lighthouse And The Whaler for another whale-related indie pop outfit. For a while, it seemed like Freelance Whales had cornered the market on warm melodies, glockenspiel, and precious pop songs. And at first blush, especially on standout track "Pioneers," the Cleveland-based Lighthouse (I know) sounds a whole lot like that Brooklyn band.
