credit: richard perkins from a press release: As we ring in Peel Off Valentine's in a Stretch H2 Hummer surrounded by stupendous breastis's's eXqo Bumaye, stops to reflect about the one and only valentine he really fucked with. Lacing his vocals over Alicia Key's "Unthinkable"( shout out Megaupload for the Project files) eX tells the tale of love getting lost, like hinges dangling loose between two cars on a speeding train. Play this shit for your bitch on Valentine's day so she knows its real. Keep your clicks locked to Dallas The [...]

It's always a hard game to remix a female vocalist in the house game, sure thousands of producers do it on a daily basis, but most of them equate to the aural equivalent of mass produced t-shirts. You know the ones with something scrawled in Helvetica aligned to the left with a full stop at the end. That tee design get's pulled off once in a while. Which leads perfectly to Roberto Rodriguez' remix for New Yorker, Vanessa Dauo. Aptly titled, his rather lengthy remix which stretches more than ten minutes, further cements that Roberto is on constant [...]

Alternately known as the moment when Dirty Glove Bastard readers are informed of the existence of El-P. Though the worlds seem an odd match, Phillip K Dick is the best name that an Atlanta rapper never chose. Can you imagine how big he would play in the strip clubs? Five years ago, El-P and Killer Mike had the same type of fan, but rarely did their worlds collide. Now they're doing an album together called RAP (Rebellious African Peoples Music) funded by Adult Swim money, with guest spots from Bun B, Trouble, and T.I. on the same song. [...]

Neon Gold Records latest addition is New York act St. Lucia , whose debut EP will be released this March. To get our taste buds ready for the album, they've sent over a remix by none other than Xaphoon Jones , the track sounds a bit CSS to me but, then again who doesn't like CSS. St.Lucia - We Got It Wrong (Xaphoon Jones Remix) [...]

Brooklyn based Neon Gold artist St. Lucia is performing a weekly residency every Tuesday at Pianos in N.Y.C. throughout the month of February with a culminating gig on Thursday, March 1st at Santos ... which will also feature a set from The Knocks! If you're in The Big City, get in the mix for one of these sets from the to-be-2012-noise-maker! Also, get in the mood with this Disco Arcade flip of the St. Lucia track "All Eyes On You", which is your new singalong for the rest of the day. [...]

One of my favourite new bands back in 2007/2008 were New York indie rockers, The Virgins. Their self-titled debut album from 2008 is still one of my favourite pick-me-up albums. Just last week, the band shared a link to their Bandcamp on their Facebook page. To my surprise, The Virgins provided a stream and free download to their latest musical creation, "Island Girl". Unlike their 2007/2008 dance-rock sound, "Island Girl" features a new lo-fi version of The Virgins. I haven't decided whether or not I like their new sound, but I am interested in seeing what [...]

The NICKI MINAJ has a snooze whilst thangs are a lil blurry as she covers the Fashion issue of New York magazine.

Photos by G. Bjork Oh Bjork! The Icelandic singer has made an album combining science and nature with the latest in sound technology called "Biophilia." She's promoting the record with a series of concerts at New York's Museum of Science in Queens. I attended the show on February 12, 2012 and when it comes to putting on an amazing live show, Bjork does not disappoint. Backed with a choir, who sounded like a chorus of angels, Bjork performed her entire album "Biophilia" while trippy visuals were shown [...]

Look, I'm no prude. As I declare by my photo to the right (I'll pause while you scroll to find it...), I'll do anything twice. Within reason, naturally. One has to set some limits. Unless you're Brandon, the New York City boy Michael Fassbender plays in Shame , which opened in Australia a few days ago to all of the expected, and deserved, rave reviews. Brandon makes me feel like a bit of a monk, and not just because of his sexual escapades. (God knows I've had my share of those). Here's a guy who [...]

You could be forgiven for mistaking The Lighthouse And The Whaler for another whale-related indie pop outfit. For a while, it seemed like Freelance Whales had cornered the market on warm melodies, glockenspiel, and precious pop songs. And at first blush, especially on standout track "Pioneers," the Cleveland-based Lighthouse (I know) sounds a whole lot like that Brooklyn band. On Monday night at Mercury Lounge, after a warm-up from BK natives Ravens & Chimes, The Lighthouse And The Whaler kicked off with that "Pioneers," and immediately showed that the comparison stops at the name. Freelance [...]

Photo by G. Raquel Welch and Geoffrey Dicker Raquel Welch works it! The goddess of the silver screen is 71 years old in this picture (take on February 11, 2012) and looks stunning and flawless! May we all look this great! Raquel Welch was in town for a retrospective of her film career and to sweeten the pot, I got to see her interviewed in person by Dick Cavett! It was an incredible experience to say the least and after the interview, I [...]

Following the breakup of Brooklyn-based KEXP favorites Pela, half of the group went on to carry the torch of anthemic rock in We Are Augustines, but guitarist Nate Martinez sought a different path through Thieving Irons . Whereas Pela's power punch belied raw soul-baring lyrics, Martinez's introspection lies instead in his instrumentation and layered compositions. Thieving Irons' debut, This Midnight Hum , drew easy comparisons to Wilco in its twangy sonic experimentation, easy harmonies and even Martinez's vocal style. Hints of the forthcoming new album, though, showcase a more expansive and adventurous sound (see [...]
Dark Ambient Electronica WNYC: "For this New Sounds, we'll listen to some electronic music from Iceland by the Australian-born composer Ben Frost. Dark acoustically generated guitar and piano textures are expertly combined with electronically processed stabs and eruptions on Frost's record "By the Throat." Plus, there's ambient post-rock music from Mountains, and some of Wendy Carlos' "Sonic Seasonings" from the early 70s, featuring the found sounds of wolves." Photos by G. Dick Cavett and Raquel Welch On February 11, 2012 when singer Whitney Houston was breaking on through to the other side at one of my old haunts in Los Angeles, 3000 miles away in New York, history was also being made - but on a happier note. All weekend at the Walter Reade Theatre, the Film Society at Lincoln Center has been paying tribute to one of the goddesses of the silver screen - Raquel Welch. When Raquel was getting her start in [...]

Photos by G. Ida No and Johnny Jewel of Glass Candy It's stories like the one I am about to share that restore my faith in humanity! On February 10, 2012, Portland's Italo disco-duo Glass Candy performed a very exclusive show at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York to kick off Fashion Week. When the evening began, I had no idea what I was in for. A couple of my friends, whose advice I listen to, are really big fans of Glass Candy, so I assumed with that [...]

Tweet Listen to "Island Girl" , a new song by New York band The Virgins . Back in high school I would stay up till ungodly hours, partly because of my lack of organization, partly because of the crazy workload I had and partly because I couldn't help but stray from my academic duties to instead researching music, something I've always loved to do. It was in one of these late night hunts that I stumbled across New [...]
This week's tantalising offering to all you music lovers is an international one from New York producer/DJ duo The Knocks, with their personal take on French electropop act, M832s song 'Midnight City'. The song comes from a six-track EP called Magic , that is due to release at the end of the month. Also, the electro house cover features the vibrant vocals of young New York singer, Mandy Lee. After the success of their singles, 'Make It Better' and 'Dancing With The DJ', The Knocks are currently working on their debut record which will be out in [...]

Photos by G. Cate Le Bon On February 9, 2012, Welsh singer Cate Le Bon performed at New York's Mercury Lounge. Telling the audience how much fun she was having seeing us "hot pieces of asses," Cate Le Bon played an hour long set that featured songs from her records "Me Oh My" and 20122s "Cyrk." If you are unfamiliar with Cate Le Bon's music, here's a brief primer. First off, she's not related to Duran Duran lead singer Simon Le Bon (ha!) Musically, she is a [...]
