The Nighty Nite is a spooky pop rock outfit manned by a handful of musicians from projects you may have heard before, including Shearwater and Wires Under Tension. But more than anything, The Nighty Nite is front man John Congleton, former lead for The Paper Chase and engineer for everyone from St. Vincent to Explosions in the Sky. The group's four-track debut EP crackles with energy largely thanks to Congleton's affected wails and dramatic musical choices. Yesterday we got word of this new project called The Nighty Nite formed by John Congleton and Jason Garner of the Paper Chase along with members of Shearwater, Wires Under Tension, and The Hospital Ships. Coming from a short recording session, the new group produced four songs for an EP entitled Dimples due out June 21st via Graveface Records . You'll obviously hear the heavy influence of The Paper Chase in these tunes with that familiar indie horror music style that we've grown to love. Back in March John Congleton told DC9 about a new project, Nighty Nite, that he was working on with his Paper Chase bandmate Jason Garner on drums, as well as members of Austin's Shearwater and New York's Slow Six. He also hinted at a then-still-in-process EP that at the time had no release date. If Nighty Nite's Soundcloud page is to believe, that album looks like it will come out June 21st. We shall see.
