The debut album from a new band is always something special. When it is a band from my hometown, it's even more exciting. If that disc completely blows away all my expectations, it's shovel to the head stunning. Having listened to The Worst Is Over Now by the Twin Cities' American Revival several times over the course of the last week, I must admit that the above description massively understates the wonder and beauty of this disc. Maybe it's my new found love for alt-country or the soulful, widescreen voice of [...]
I'm assuming that if you read this site you're relatively familiar with Kickstarter . For those that don't know what I'm talking about, Kickstarter is an online platform that helps people raise money for creative ideas. It's used by individuals across the creative spectrum, though I've been exposed to it mainly because we get about 20 emails every week about one musical Kickstarter or another. Instead of writing about each one we like individually, I thought it could be fun to make a habit out of searching through [...]

Better late than never, Christos and I couldn't decide what to do for this post but after listening to most of this new Basic Physics album, it was a no-brainer. Lot's of mainstream sampling here, but don't let that deter you. Plenty of good stuff on the album, including the 3 tracks below. Hit the jump for downloads. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Downloads: 1. Basic Physics - Starry Eyed E.T. 2. Basic Physics - Stuntin [...]

There's no other type of musician that gets more flack than the mashup artist. Yea, they take from other's work, but what many overlook is that it's not in the creation that makes a great mashup artists, but in the manipulation. It's like a photographer, it's about finding the right canvas and putting it in a light that's completely your own. It may not be as work intensive, but takes just as much craft for the art. That said, you do find a lot more shit mashups hyped up just because of the names behind it, [...]

Winter is in full swing nationwide, with all but one state coated in a layer of snow over the past two weeks, and temperatures below freezing here in the nation's capital. While I, for one, can't wait for Spring's warm sunlight, it's still best to make the most with what you're given, so with that we give you the All Things Go North Woods Mixtape. Every year, my family and I would go to my grandmother's cabin in the north woods of Minnesota on beautiful West Bearskin Lake. No running water, outhouse in the back, and a mere 20 feet [...]

![[Listen/Download] – Meridene – "Parade of Fools"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2783925_lg.jpg)
Wisconsin's Meridene specialise in pounding drums, Strokes-esque guitars and rousing choruses. Their latest single "Parade of Fools" has a sense of hardwon optimism in the lyrics, leavening the catchy pop-rock hooks and crackling energy with a grown-up sensibility. The band has a new album, Something Like Blood , which was recorded in just four days at Bon Iver's studio in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. It'll be released through Amble Down Records on September 28th. Keep up to date with Meridene - [...]

Guess what? It's FRIDAY. Time for more music, and hopefully a restful weekend. I meant to post about St. Louis natives The Northwoods sooner, but I just kept delaying it until I forgot! Well I recently rediscovered their mp3's on my hard drive, and reminded myself that a post was in order! Northwoods are composed of Elijah Palnik and Jeremy Shanas. Their sound is most easily described as a fresh take on Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and James Taylor. They have been getting a lot of good buzz in their local area, receiving honors such as being called the best band in St. Louis in 2009! Their music is [...]

Who : The Northwoods from St. Louis. What : Opting for something more low key and soothing, I've got the duo of Elijah Palnik & Jeremy Shanas (together called The Northwoods ) on the radio. For fans of CSNY and Simon and Garfunkel , ' The Northwoods restore the beauty of poetry to its rightful place in today's music through rich, soulful vocal harmonies and an occasional dose of funky, percussive rhythms'. Bonus points if you find the hidden crunk track in there..... no joke. [...]
