Somehow I completely overlooked Minneapolis mind melter Young Henry's newest digital album Octagon. I had previously gushed over the single "Pollen" but fell asleep at the wheel... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Minneapolis', Young Henry , released his album, Octagon , earlier this year on Zoom Lens . The synths are in high key, the lo-fi is heavy, and the Korean/Japanese vocals are on point. The album experiments unruly beats with droney bass frequencies that dive into a sanctum of euphoric Korean & Janpanese pop; it really is an extraordinary production. Shells and I haven't interacted much. While my mom and sister were hunting them on the beach I was jumping hurricane sized waves with my brother. As my uncle and brother fired them at the shooting range I was miles away doing my best Iker Casilla impression. And as my college roommates paired them with Velveeta cheese for dinner, I was too busy mixing corn and baked beans to notice. In fact, before trying my hand at stuffed shells this week, the only prior experience I had with them was when I went to [...]

Drowning in music. There are a few ways to imagine what that could mean, but in our case, it's purely about the amount of amazing music that has been sent to us over the past couple of months, but which has been put in a holding pattern because so many freaking stellar records have been [...] Related posts:Recent Releases We Almost Missed, Vol. II: Screaming Females, Prizzy Prizzy Please, Fictionist, Fresh and Onlys, Adam Green, Roadside Graves Recent Releases We Almost Missed, VIII: Vita Ruins, Lou Barlow, Communist Daughter, Cary Ann Hearst, Apollo Ghosts, Holy Ghost Recent Releases [...]

Once again New York hits right at my heart, now offering me the great sounds of The Octagon. They've released their latest album, Warm Love and Cool Dreams Forever , on Serious Business Records , but I have a feeling not too many people have heard much from this group yet, but that should change soon. The group has the ferociousness of old punk tunes with a lot of lo-fi tendencies, which might recall a little bit of Guided by Voices [...]

Given the volume of music available for consideration on One Track Mind, we invariably have to pass on a lot of tasty morsels. [tweetmeme] In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Sampler will offer a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. Less talk, more tunes: Radar Brothers "Horses Warriors" from The Illustrated Garden (to be released on 3/23) [ download ] Ruby Suns [...]

[mp3] The Octagon: "Suicide Kings" Besides Dawn Landes at Mercury , and Stark performing with Tim Emmerick at Pianos (9:00) - we feel obliged by our dedication to good taste to tell you about two more amazing shows happening on Friday. The first being the triumphant return of The Octagon to Brooklyn after dominating the country behind their new (and killer) record Warm Love and Cool Dreams Forever . This analog garage trio is hitting Bruar Falls to celebrate the release of the [...]

Excerpt: Thelonious Monk's Advice to Musicians Cats on Fire - "Letters from a Voyage to Sweden" A song of afternoon adultery, quickly snatched; melancholy in a blue afternoon. // My guesses: Cats on Fire keep their guitar-picks in jean-pockets when they're not using them. Matthias Bjorkas wears an embroidered Morrissey patch. They keep their accordion in a box, only take it out for a few moments in a breathless bridge. They imagine playing a concert on a ferry. They are from Finland. [...]

How many of you make use of the iTunes rating stars when you listen to music? You know what I mean, right? The five star icons you can click on, marking how much you like something. Any of you do that? I do, particularly on days when I'm listening to 3-4 different new albums. It is an easy shortcut for remembering how much you liked a record. If you have a handful of 4-star tracks, it was probably good. If there aren't any, well, it probably isn't worth going back to, at least not when you have dozens of other [...]

After a short hiatus to end the year (I needed a break! I'm not Largehearted Boy !), the Graboid is back to kick off 2010 properly. My hope is to be as consistent with this as possible, with updates every Tuesday. We'll see if that holds up, but I'm known to be a bit lazy every so often. Being the first week and all, one wouldn't expect an abundance of releases - and as you can see here it's slim pickings. Don't fret, as this month is going to be huge as many high-profile [...]
![[New Releases] First 2 Weeks of January 2010](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2231572_lg.jpg)
Aside from, hopefully, featuring great songs, we feel like in 2010 we've got to step our game up and be on top of the latest releases. What is there to look up to this January? You've come to the right place. Here are a couple of new releases we are looking for. Flying Lotus is all about exploring the experimental possibilities of other genres. He released a couple of tracks a couple of months back giving Lil Wayne some glitches and dreamy synthesized melodies converting the track into a surreal experience. [...]
"The Octagon's Will Glass and Zachary Mexico met as kids in boarding when Glass made fun of Mexico's Green Day t-shirt. The guys huddled together in dorm rooms, late at night, drinking from warm 40's of St. Ides and handles of Captain Morgan, listening to Motown, Astral Weeks, Guided by Voices, Dead Kennedys, and The Grateful Dead. Eventually landing in NYC, Glass and Mexico met up with bass player The Bunny, forming The Octagon and touring behind two albums." `Warm Love And Cool Dreams Forever` seems a rather whimsical, if not [...]
