Tweet "Re-Introducing" ? This is a new feature to fill a little niche on LBYB, bringing some more attention to artists that we thought would explode but haven't quite yet, or just throwing the limelight on an act that hasn't had any recent releases that we just love too damn much not to write about. The Octopus Project are one of those bands. The Octopus Project are an electronic indie-rock group whose swirling, layered sound owes a serious debt to [...]

Time for a little bit of aural time travel. Let's look back, reflect, and contemplate. What were we listening to one year ago? Listen to the September 2010 Mix and find out. The Octopus Project is coming home...they have long done their part to keep Austin weird, and they'll be sure to make your weekend just slightly weirder. They play Emo's this Saturday, 9/10. November dates in San Antonio, Houston + Dallas. But first, the proper Austin show...now get on out.

We resume our reposts of the Blogophilia series this week with volumes 8 and 8.5. Why 8 and 8.5? Well, I mixed these at the same time, and the tracks came from the same collection of songs I reviewed. Calling one 8 and the other 9 didn't feel right. We've also had a 12.5, and recently a 26.5 for the same reason. Like volume 7, these two mixes really capture the summer spirit. Volume 8.5 has a throw in from an "oldie but goodie." Enjoy... Blogophilia Volume 8 [...]

Last week Explosions in the Sky played with the Octopus Project a sold out show at Outland on Liberty. [...]
One of Austin's best takes headlining tour to New York. The Octopus Project swung through Brooklyn for a night at The Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 6th as part of their national tour. This Austin group had to miss SXSW this year since they were on tour with Devo, having landed a supporting slot after playing together at last fall's Moogfest. But their hometown showcased the band anyway with a win for #1 Best Experimental Band and last year's release Hexadecagon was voted #8...

After sell out screenings at Austin Film Festival and being selected as one of the 12 Best Films at SXSW 2011 by Paste Magazine, Echotone will make its theatrical debut later this month at The Alamo Ritz . Directed by first-time filmmaker Nathan Christ and photographed by Robert Garza, the documentary takes a look at some of the challenges facing the Austin music scene, and follows several local artists as they attempt to make their own way. "Now that Austin has high-rises rising up amongst our downtown skyline, how are our local musicians [...]

The Octopus Project will be playing DC9 on Tuesday with opening acts The Torches and The Electrocutions. Doors open at 8pm and tickets are $14. However, you might be able to go for free if you e-mail me at 5actsblog at gmail dot com by 4:30 pm ET on Tuesday with the subject "Hexadecagon." Below is the band's fun video for "Wet Gold" from 2009.

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Maserati w/ Hollow Stars, Skin Jobs Thursday, March 31 The Earl - 488 Flat Shoals Avenue in Atlanta 30316 Admission $10 / Purchase Tickets As good as those last two Maserati albums sounded, the group is unquestionably better live than they are on record. The stratospheric guitars climb higher and push further, the distortion-fueled bombast packs a greater whallop. In many ways, the band's sweeping instrumental post-rock is music made for marveling — at the beauty, the [...]

Oh No,no Devo? That was the cry for many when we learned of the band's cancellation of their Fun Fun Fun Fest performance due to a severe hand injury suffered by guitarist Bob Mothersbaugh. But, thanks to the fine folks at Transmission Entertainment, they make good with the fans and bring the band to Austin for a performance at the newly launched ACL Live Studio . Personally, I would have loved to see the band performing on the outdoor stage at Waterloo Park under the Austin sky, packed in tight with Devo fans both young and old, but if [...]
[Our business is almost finished in Austin. One more dinner, and we'll sign that big contract, I swear, and then you can say you knew Buzz Bands when ...] Notable tonight in L.A. (a very abbreviated version): ► Devo headlines Club Nokia, with the Octopus Project (that's their video for "Catalog," above) opening. ► Alex Kemp plays the Troubadour, supporting headlining electropop trio Capital Cities. Not only is Kemp's music smart, but his website is fun (and by clicking [...]
The fan bases for these two bands might be worlds apart, but they share some sensibilities.

the Octopus Project in Austin in 2010 ( more by Bryan Bruchman ) The Octopus Project are currently on the road, and later this month hook up with Devo for a string of dates followed by a bunch of shows with Explosions in the Sky in April. It's the latter that brings them to NYC on April 6th, but since Low and Eluvium are opening for EITS at Radio City Music Hall [...]

Explosions of the Sky return with their latest LP Take Care, Take Care, Take Care 90ooi8 on April 26th, and three weeks prior, Austin, TX instrumental rockers will look to support the release with a North American tour. Launching April 1st in Oxford, MS, the trek will see quartet then hit Charlotte, NC and Richmond, VA on their way to a previously announced April 6th show at Radio City Music Hall in New York. After that, they'll turn west for two shows in Ohio and one in Pittsburgh. Then, about a month later, the [...]
Austin based quintet The Octopus Project has announced a West Coast tour including dates with iconic new wave group, Devo, and surf rock outfit Man...or Astro-man? In October, The Octopus Project was honored to join the line-up at Moogfest 2010 with MGMT, Massive Attack, Hot Chip and headliner Devo. When Devo's guitarist suffered a hand injury and couldn't perform, The Octopus Project was asked to fill in as Devo's backing band. They all got along so well, that when it came time to schedule their make-up tour, they asked the band to join them. Perhaps a result of [...]

The Octopus Project have got some big tour dates coming up. Later this month, they'll be hitting the road with 90s mainstays Man... or Astro-man? But things really heat up when the act take to stage opening for Devo in March. Holy shit! The only bad news in this whole announcement? All of the shows are a hell of a distance away from New York City. (See below.) The Octopus Project tour dates: Dates marked + w/ Man... or Astro-man? Dates marked * w/ Devo [...]
