The Dodos Photo by Charlie Villyard The Dodos ' third album hits stores physically next week, but they have made it available digitally ever since it leaked on the torrents long ago. With Time To Die , they branch out a lot farther from their Sung Tongs starting point and seemed to have come into their own. The Animal Collective influence is still felt here, but it doesn't seem to dominate it like their last record. When this [...]

The Octopus Project ~ " Music Is Happiness " views:35 I saw The Octopus Project play at ACL last year, and they crushed it. What's not to like ~ they were playing to a hometown crowd and Yvonne Lambert plays the Theremin ! I wanted to catch their show last month at the Troubadour , but I had to go out of town. The song has been around for a while, but the video is new and [...]

Poor Jane Bradley . I made her write about this ridiculous video by some people called The Octopus Project: Apparently, there was a "pretty gnarly fog" when The Octopus Project filmed the video for "Wet Gold". Maybe I shouldn't let this choice of adjective irritate me such an inordinate amount. But I don't think words like "gnarly" or "bodacious" should be used by anyone, except maybe Bill and Ted (of Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey fame), or kids on council estates pretending to be Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles . That's [...]

Thought I'd make good use of my weekend and roundup some of late summers amazing new music videos for your Monday viewing/listening pleasure. What better way to say farewell to August and kick off September, right? Got some great stuff! What's better than ghosts, pirates and hand puppets? How about ghost and pirate hand puppets on an epic journey through heaven, sea and earth set to a great Dan Deacon song! I am really loving this new video for Dan Deacon's catchy and eclectic song "Paddling Ghost" off his album [...]

~ Erin Dillon You know that image of a musician or rockstar with an incredibly humongous ego? Well let me bust that myth: they're not all like Russell from Stillwater. In fact, they can be so genuinely kind and accepting that they make you stop and think I should be more like that. Well, that's The Octopus Project . So kind, in fact, that when my [...]

How do you convince the Red Cross that you can't afford one pound a month when you have two shopping bags on one hand, and an Iphone on the other? For some reason the words "Oh it's for my mom" comes out of my mouth, even though that doesn't help me in any way except by emphasizing my 100 pounds worth purchase, hell, it didn't stop the guy from harassing me with some more fun famine facts. The day got better, my favorite foreign sandals broke in half. Now, I've heard of heels breaking, but an entire shoe splitting [...]

All black and white photos by Clint Miller All color photos by Kevin Griggs I arrived at the Star Bar about halfway through the first song from an Atlanta based three piece called Living Rooms . Their sound immediately caught my attention, as it was extremely similar to Animal Collective . The only major difference that I could distinguish was their use of heavy bass in their sound. It had more of a club/dance feel than Animal Collective . I was not the [...]

Ah, I just caught that Cameron tagged this on Facebook and I flipped out. Those who read my review of The Octopus Project's Golden Beds EP know how deep my love runs for the Austin homies and this photo just makes my heart flutter. I'm on my way to catch FMLY FRNDS DD/MM/YYYY open for Del at the Williamsburg Watefront, hope everyone else is having a rad day. the Octopus Project - Truck
Austin quartet the Octopus Project has quietly — well, maybe not so quietly — been making some of the most charmingly spaced-out instrumental music of this decade. I remember marveling at their Coachella-opening slot in 2006, which they followed up with a solid 2007 album "Hello, Avalanche." Now husband-and-wife Josh and Yvonne Lambert and bandmates Toto Miranda and Ryan Figg have begun incorporating vocals in their music. Their forthcoming "Golden Beds" EP features five songs and seven videos, including the one above, for "Wet Gold," directed by the Zellner Bros. ||| Download: [...]

Anyone else get the urge to watch a Wes Anderson film after watching this video?

Back to the grind, people. For those who didn't know, I spent the weekend in Philadelphia covering UFC 101 for Inside Fights (the MMA blog at Inside Pulse) and FoxSports.com [ Best Fights Policy Has Drawbacks , UFC 101 Live Blog , Penn is Mightier ]. As a result, I can barely keep my eyes open today, but I wanted to share something that got stuck in my head after the Friday weigh-ins - when we got back to the hotel room - and I wanted to share this with you; I just forgot [...]
Welcome back to Video Round-Up, where the SD crew picks through the flurry of videos circulating this particular week and posts the highlights. This week, we remember two late greats: John Hughes (who passed away yesterday, 8.6.09 from a heart attack at the age of 59) and Heath Ledger (who directed a video for Modest Mouse before he passed away last year). After that, there's some live goodness from Alela Diane , Lykke Li featuring [...]
Growing up we got use to seeing things talking that shouldn't be: a dune buggy, a scared dog with a big appetite and of course, Heathcliff. Austin's Octopus Project unleash the next great thing in talking: an inflatable row boat!
This visualization of The Octopus Project's song Wet Gold finds our trio of Octo-men stranded at sea in a singing boat while a lady ashore signals distress in semaphore. The music video was filmed in Galveston, TX, and directed by the Zellner Bros, who also directed The Octopus Project's "Truck" video previously. Wet Gold is the first track on The Octopus Project's new "Golden Beds" enhanced CD EP released July 28, 2009, on Peek-A-Boo Records.

Tonight in Baltimore you can go for the crazy popular Kid Cudi and Asher Roth at Rams Head Live or the slightly more unknown The Octopus Project at the Ottobar. Seldon Plan, Light Trees, and A+ Gold... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
It's all singing rafts and light-up hermit crab shells for Texas' The Octopus Project. But come on, did you really doubt they would make a cute indie video for their cute indie song? Let's be real. This is an Austin band. The city's slogan is "Keep Austin Weird" but it should be changed to "Keep Austin Indie." Or "Make Austin Less Indie," depending on your point of view. Maybe even just "Recognize The Fact That Austin Is Indie." I'm off topic. "Wet Gold" is out now on the band's latest EP, Golden Beds , on Peek-A-Boo Records . [...]
