In certain ways, THE OFFSPRING have always been a step behind and below their alterna-punk brethren GREEN DAY . Their breakthrough album, SMASH , showed up two months after Green Day's breakthrough album, DOOKIE . DOOKIE sold 10+ million units U.S.; SMASH sold 6+ million units U.S. Green Day have won Grammys, boatloads of MTV Music Awards, and went a long way toward locking down their legacy with the critical & commercial success of 2004's AMERICAN IDIOT ; the Offspring... well... not so much. [...]

This is pretty hilarious. Check out TheToyZone for Lego covers of Let It Be, Abbey Road, Revolver, Nevermind, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Offspring's Americana, Born in the U.S.A., Norah Jones' Not Too Late, and more. MP3: Nirvana-Come As You Are MP

Fuck man, the new Girl Talk album is so fantastic it's sick. So many instantly recognizable samples plus a ton of obscure shit that fits so well I can't believe. We're leavin' in the mornin' for the holiday weekend, and will hopefully get something posted during that span. If not, see y'all on Tuesday and don't blow off all your fingers. For the time being, enjoy the tunes below. New site design and more music on flipside. MP3 | James - Laid [...]

Kara!

Yes, I am late on this trail, but released on Tuesday; there were several great releases including new albums from Tilly and the Wall, The Hold Steady, The Offspring, Wolf Parade, and My Brightest Diamond. All are great, and I'll try to be including featurettes on all of the above artists in the next few posts that I will put together. The Offspring , [1989 - now] sometimes quoted 'Offspring,' are a alternative/punk act from Garden Grove, California. [...]

I'm a big fan of conspircay theories. I like reading the ridiculously over the top things that people think is happening. I don't believe most of them, but they're an interesting read if you're bored. Like David Icke claiming that the Royal Family, Tony Blair, George Bush and many others are reptilian humanoids. That explains a lot. Obviously one of the most well known conspiracy theories is that of Paul McCartney having died in a car crash and being replaced by a look-alike and sound-alike. Apparently [...]

After waiting 4 and a half years for another Offspring album to be released (a greatest hits album doesn't count!), we are finally treated to a brand new album from our favorite Orange County punk band. I will always have a place in my heart for The Offspring. They were my first real favorite band. I have all their albums, all the soundtracks and compilations they appeared on, joined the fan club, saw them in concert twice, bought six bootleg concert albums, etc. etc. - common over obsessive fan crap. I even made a video containing [...]
We are on the verge of $5.00 gas. When less than 3 years ago, we just broke the $2.00 per gallon barrier. Why the sudden surge in price? Well...let's look at why prices go up in the first place. In any free market, there are two entities that decide the price: the supply and the demand. Of course, it's slightly more complicated than that...but these are the two major factors that control
Goodness me, what a week! Finally it feels like summer has truly begun, once with this new wave on awesome new stuff. First up is Coldplay 's long awaited follow-up to their critical and commercial hit X & Y, in the form of " Viva la Vida or Death And All His Friends " (we've gotten used to the title by now, check out the stream here). The Goo Goo Dolls are also back with yet another awesome compilation, after last year's Greatest Hits: Volume One , this time however in " Greatest Hits: Volume Two [...]
...for a price. American Airlines announced today that they will start charging fifteen dollars for your first checked bag. This is one way they are combating rising fuel costs. (Another way is by cutting jobs.) So, in honor of the airline I have flown on the last two times I was airborne, [...]
The Good: Track of the Week!!!: Young Jeezy (feat. Kanye West) - "Put On"; It may be a bit repetative. It may be Southern rap to the extreme, which is kind of getting lame. But it's got Kanye, it's got a sick beat, and just try not bopping along with this track. This is sick to the next degree! Grade: A Bun B. (feat. Lil' Wayne) - "Damn I'm Cold"; Oh man this beat is freakin' hot! No really,
The day I bought my first CD I actually wound up buying two, and they were both shared with my brother. That day we picked up Green Day's Dookie which I've mentioned a couple of times, and The Offspring's Smash which I don't think I've ever really written about. Until now that is. I forget the first time I heard a song off this album, I don't remember my first listen to it, and I have no idea
The first big event of the 2008 election season was held last night, the Iowa caucus . Given that I'm a bit of a politics nut, I decided to take a look around at all of the candidates last night to find out more about their taste in music. The search proved a bit fruitless, but then, as the results started to pour in, it struck me - perhaps EAR FARM could pick some songs for each of the candidates, based upon their Iowa caucus results. So that's exactly what we did. Is that stupid? Fine, go away! Does [...]

So I'm planning on checking out Kid Nation on CBS to see what all the hoopla is about. But in the meantime, I thought I'd leave you with some songs that feature the word "kid" in them. Yes I know, I'm such a giver. Anyway, enjoy... Check Out: Voxtrot - "Kid Gloves" The Off Srping - "The Kids Aren't Alright" White Rabbits - "Kid On My Shoulders" Of Montreal - "Kid Without [...]

When I go to the gym, I am very focused. I get on the treadmill, I do my thing, I stretch out and I leave. I don't chit chat with anybody or spend any more time there than I have to. I'd much rather workout at home, but my treadmill is out of commission, so I can't. To facilitate this in-the-zone experience, I take off my glasses and wear my headphones, which really help shut out everything and everyone else. The thing is, it doesn't shut off my sense of smell, and lately I've [...]

I need to stop going out to bars every night and drinking. Since I am now in the vicinity of numerous bars in a 2-block radius of my house, my willpower for staying home is quickly dwindling -- as is my bank account. Plus, it is definitely cutting into my blogging time. I have a good time and in no way am I getting hammered every night of the week. Just every day ending in "y." :) But I end up paying for it the next morning, so maybe a few times going to work with [...]

Someone had somehow wangled an invitation to a massive, all-night party at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt. As a result we were all drunk. Pished as the proverbial newts. So it made perfect sense, on that Saturday almost exactly twelve years ago, to pile into a photo booth as we waited at 4:30 AM on the platform at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof for the first train of the day to take us back to Darmstadt. The carriages pulled up on time (of course), and we poured ourselves through the slam-door and into a compartment, snorting and guffawing and shrieking. Probably [...]
In what is as close as you're going to get to a theme on a Tuesday night, 'Chemicals For Criminals' had me thinking of another anthem that played the big chords and managed to come out the other side with an egg-free face. Taken from Offspring's 1994 album 'Smash' 'Self Esteem' marked a highpoint before they slowly became a tad flyweight. The song demands audience participation and must rank as
I apologize for all the delayed uploading of my site yesterday. Something was up with my host and none of my pictures would load, and it seemed to take forever for the playtagger arrows to show up, too. Blog-City is usually pretty solid, so I'll cut them some slack for this one, and hopefully by the time this is published it'll be all cleared up.
