Sometimes the blogosphere can be a truly great thing. Amongst the stacks of promos and posts, you can find an artist you've never heard and give them a listen. Rather than absorbing the hype, you can read a brief description of an artist and help the disc rise to the top of the pile. For me, that artist was The One AM Radio . When I put the disc in, I can freely admit I had no idea what to expect. Everything I heard about him mentioned a split with Ted Leo , so [...]

The One AM Radio is actually the work of one musician, Hrishikesh Hirway (pronounced "Rishie-kaysh"). Born and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts to Indian parents, he began performing as The One AM Radio while a junior at Yale University. A show supporting Ted Leo prompted Leo to release a split 7" with him in 1999. Hirway's third album, This Too Will Pass, follows a handful of critically acclaimed releases which included 2004's A Name Writ In Water. His highly anticipated new album, This Too Will Pass is due out in February on Dangerbird Records [...]
Hope everyone had a great holiday. I meant to post over my time off, but we all know how that turned out. Now, unfortunately, we're all back to the work / school daily grind again. But, I've got a little gem here that should help keep you in a hazy, vacation-induced coma, sedating you against the continual cold of February's winter. The One AM Radio needs only one man, Hrishikesh Hirway, to create its slow, dreamy sound. Originally I didn't want to post a song of this nature. To be quite [...]

Finally, I've put together another mixtape for you. 24 tracks, - 77 minutes and 7 seconds of pure pop. As always, the mixtape will fit perfectly on an 80 minute CD-R. This time, all the songs come in the category "sweet, melodic indiepop". All shiny and jangly, and of course, lots of new artists and hopefully some new and great discoveries for you too. I've included an old favorite of mine here too: the classic and super-bittersweet "I'm in love with a girl who doesn't know I exist" originally released on the great Sarah [...]
Each weekday, My Morning Download introduces you to some of the coolest new music on the web. We clear through the noise so you don't have to. Meet The One AM Radio The One AM Radio is actually the work of one musician, Hrishikesh Hirway (pronounced "Rishie-kaysh"). Born and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts to Indian parents, he began performing as The One AM Radio while a junior at Yale

Despite the exotic landscape in the photo above, Hrishikesh Hirway is simply a native of Peabody, Massachusetts, a town known for its past and rich history of puritanism. Though he now lives in Los Angeles, Hirway once resided in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India, in the country from which his family is from. From the East Coast to the West Coast to the Middle East, one could certainly call Hirway culturally experienced. Regardless of his broad travels, Hirway's musical output is generated moreso off of emotion and life experiences than cultural wisdom. Under the name The One AM [...]

The One AM Radio aka Hrishikesh Hirway will be releasing a new record in February on Dangerbird Records . The album is called This Too Will Pass and follows his 2004's A Name Writ In Water which received an 8.1 rating on Pitchfork. Hirway's sound is usually classified as "folktronic"...the blending of acoustic guitar with taped drum beats and electronic sounds created on a laptop and the like backing it all up. French horns and cellos also find [...]

The sea is calm tonight. The tide is full, the moon lies fair Upon the straits; on the French coast, the light Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand, Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
