A few weeks ago, I went down to D.C. to film one of The Oranges Band's few 10th anniversary shows. Last Friday, we posted the first video filmed at that show. It featured a song from the band's album The World and Everything In It , their second LP for the now-defunct Lookout Records. Today's video features the song "Gordon's Nightclub" off that criminally-overlooked album The Oranges Band...Are Invisible . Enjoy!
Baltimore's The Oranges Band have been at it for a decade now. In the past few months, they've celebrated their 10 year anniversary by heading out on tour with The Hold Steady and playing a few 10th anniversary shows on the east coast. A lot has changed for the band over the years, but frontman Roman Kuebler (one-time bassist for Spoon) is dedicated to the band's music. He has an unwavering spirit and great pride in the band's music and legacy. Kuebler and co. have turned out consistently strong material over the past 10 years, most recently with the criminally-overlooked [...]

This show was rescheduled to last night because the 1990s were delayed by the volcano eruption. That gave the whole evening the mark of being an afterthought. Though there was a sizable crowd, it wasn't packed, and the bill itself felt very strange. The Oranges Band played first. They are four guys who are extremely proficient at their instruments playing really boring songs. I might hire them to be a bar band if I owned a bar, but I couldn't find anything to be excited about in their well-worn rock tunes. The 1990s, from across the pond, were [...]

The Oranges Band appears tonight at Comet Ping Pong to celebrate over 10 years of shows in Baltimore and DC. The guys have been away for while with vocalist Ron Kuebler taking time to work on his solo project "Romania" and its website counterpart, every7th.com , but the band is punctuating their return by appearing at both Comet Ping Pong in DC and Ottobar in Baltimore where they first played back in November 2008. "We are excited to be playing our ten year anniversary show at the Ottobar, the same place (in name [...]

And celebrate The Oranges Band tonight at Comet Ping Pong or the Ottobar on Satuday. Here's part 2 of my interview with The Oranges Band's lead singer, Roman Kuebler. Photo credits: Natasha Tylea (1-3), Greg Szeto (4-5) The Oranges Band were the first group that got me to start poking around the music scene here in Charm City. The World and Everything In It still ranks among my favorite albums from a Baltimore band; to this day, I can throw it on and get taken in by songs like "Drug City" and "Open Air." Needless to say, I was pretty excited when I checked the Ottobar calendar some [...]

100-81 | 80-61 | 60-41 | 40-21 | 20-1 80. The Postal Service, "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" Ben Gibbard's pretentions and wimpiness make Death Cab For Cutie's music a daunting tightrope to tread. Stay on, and you're treated to some great, romantic pop rock. But all too often, you're knocked off with glurgy, fey dreck whose supporting guitars sound like a pathetic attempt to sound tough. On top of James Tamborello's glitchy, blippy synths, though, Gibbard's voice is [...]

Welcome to part one of GIMME TINNITUS' Best Songs Of The Aughts where we look back on the best songs of 2000-2004. Back when all the "best of the decade" whoopla started earlier this year (with Pitchfork's Best Of ), I began thinking about the songs I would have blogged about had I actually been blogging (or let's say posting about music on an angelfire page) way back in 2000. I sifted through many tracks to come up with this list, and I hope it helps you reconnect with some tracks you may have forgotten [...]

The Oranges Band's newest album... The Oranges Band Are Invisible is gonna have it's official release (I think) later this year, but you can already get your hands on it here or here . In case you missed it, I posted one track from the album last year. Here is another track with a pretty different feel to it. I can't quite put my finger on the reference Mr. Kuebler is making here. It will come to me sometime after the post goes up. Anyway, listen to this... Downloadable: [...]
