Craig Kief Spring is only barely here - the past few days' weather notwithstanding - but the concert announcement machine is already making eyes at Autumn with the unveiling of a couple of pretty high profile tours coming through town when the leaves start to change and the days get shorter. Sam Beam, the walking epitome of bearded folk music, released Ghost On Ghost - his fifth album as Iron & Wine - last month, but until now only had Spring dates in the northeast and Europe confirmed [...]
The Orwells rocked Shea Stadium over the weekend, along with The Cosmonauts . Daniel Topete was there to capture the evening with some great photos. Check them out below. The Orwells: [...]

FIDLAR @ Glasslands in April ( more by PSquared Photography ) Batten down the hatches, two of the country's more rambunctious young bands -- FIDLAR and The Orwells -- will be on tour together this fall. Their trek includes a stop in NYC at Bowery Ballroom on October 24 . Tickets for that show go on AmEx presale on Wednesday (5/15) at noon with the general on-sale happening Friday (5/17) at noon. The Orwells were just in town [...]

The Orwells' campaign to save rock ’n’ roll — well, that's what it seems like every time they step onstage — has a new backer. The young suburban Chicago quintet of Mario Cuomo, Grant Brinner, Henry Brinner, Dominick Corso and Matt O’Keefe worked with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek on the title track of their forthcoming EP, "Other Voices." It's a typical rager, and another reason to think the best is yet to come. ||| Live: The Orwells will play FYF Fest on Aug. 25 [...]
Today's music was forged in the fires of Mount Doom. Enjoy. : Club 8 - I'm Not Gonna Grow Old : For those of you who have spent the first five months of 2013 impatiently waiting for someone to deliver a stunning disco-enthused pop song, expect this Club 8 effort to make your day. Their new LP is titled Above The City , and it's due out May 21 via Labrador . : The Orwells - Other Voices : Apparently for their upcoming EP, this up and coming act wrangled [...]

Here is how the headlines will remember the week. President of the Catholic League is so fired up at Bowie's "The Next Day" music video that he called the pop star a, "switch-hitting, bisexual, senior citizen", while the media hedgefund-scaled hype surrounding The Great Gatsby redux only further reminds us of our current-crap-economic conditions, that finds Santigold moonlighting on "The Office" along with Clay Aiken and Aaron Rodgers to find "The Next Grea...

The Orwells will follow the release of last year's Remember When with the Other Voices EP on June 25, 2013 via East End/Canvasback (LP) and Burger Records (cassette). The Orwells worked with none other than TV On The Radio member Dave Sitek on the title track for their new EP, which is streaming below. That may sound strange if you know the music of TV On The Radio, but Sitek has worked in the studio with bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Thee Oh Sees, and Liars in the [...]

Chicago frenetic and just legal The Orwells have announced the release of thier new Other Voices EP June 25th on East End/ Canvasback (with a cassette on Burger Records). TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek handled production duties on the title track that we have below. The song is a high-energy, charged affair and everything you would want from an Orwell's song.

The Orwells are a Chicago five-piece, aged between 17 and 18 across the board, and they're about to come over to the UK to play their first shows at the Great Escape Festival, Brighton. Prepping a debut EP on their own minted label East End Records as well as National Anthem in the UK, the first track from the release - out in June - has been produced by TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek. All these wonderful info-laced accolades, but is 'Other Voices' actually any good? At first it starts [...]

The Orwells are set to release a new EP; hear the title track "Other Voices". The Orwells are five guys from Chicago, IL, playing straight up rock n roll music. Cousins Mario Cuomo...

A new one by the teenage rockers from Illinois, listen to the head nodding Other Voices by The Orwells below. Rock isn't dead by a long, long way .

The beauty behind The Orwells isn’t just their youth, their relative inexperience, or the surprisingly mature (yet thoroughly immature) music they make. It’s a glorious combination of all these things. Nobody makes rock ‘n’ roll sound so sweet, or so simple, which is (unfortunately) seems a rare combination these days. The fact that dizzying new summer party jam “Other Voices” features lines like “take a drink, then let’s make out,” only makes it that much sweeter. You’d be wise to expect bigger and better things from The Orwells, though; TV On the Radio’s Dave Sitek produced their upcoming [...]

The awesome "Other Voices", the title track from Chicago kids The Orwells upcoming EP, is the sound of a band not only rounding into form but operating with a confidence and self-belief that, as much as it is an anachronism in the year 2013, is really very refreshing. Look out for "Other Voices" to drop on June 25th via East End/Canvasback. The Orwells ( Facebook ) Rating 9

Over the past 12 months or so, The Orwells have been gererating quite a buzz for themselves in the blog-o-sphere (and wider) with their frenetic blending of garage rock with a healthy dose of punk swagger and attitude. The next release, an EP titled Other Voices, will see the light of day on the 25th June via East End/ Canvasback and here in the UK via East End/ National Anthem . Have a listen to the title track. Last August, with each member at the ripe age of 17, Chicago's The Orwells released their debut LP, Remember When . A year later and with all sorts of adult privileges in grasp (voting, curfew extensions, etc.), the band is back with a brand new EP, Other Voices , featuring a title track produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek . While aging has offered the band a more pronounced sense of structure and foresight, their latest single is just as riotous, with the fuzzy guitars and haggard vocals still embodying youthful recklessness. Listen in below. [...]
