This morning I heard a bird sing. The song was lovely. I don't know which kind of bird it was who serenaded me, but I am thankful for the song. Goldfinches are at the feeders now. An unfamiliar bird was there yesterday; it looked like a wren. A red spawn and a gray spawn of Satan had a bit of tiff this morning on the deck. The gray spawn, far bigger than the red one, ended up losing and fell down to the ground. I swear I saw the red spawn raise its arms in triumph. [...]
I heard this song back in March on a SXSW 2011 torrent Playlist but recently @DrewShannon hit us up with the official single version which is available FREE to download. "Baby Rain" is off their upcoming album, Dark Past, due out November 1. Here's a little about Brite Futures whose name is fitting for the potential their music has: [...]

In this instalment we look at the lesser known originals for five hits from the 1970s. Regular readers with exceptionally good memories might have a déjà vu movement: two of the songs I've done before. But I was not satisfied with one, and recently was sent by a kind soul a crucial sound file for the other. * * * Johnny Bristol – Love Me For A Reason (1974).mp3 The Osmonds – Love Me For A Reason (1974).mp3 [...]

The Osmonds : Crazy Horses [ purchase ] It was one of the strange moments in pop when the South African Broadcasting Corporation, the apartheid-era cheerleaders for racist Puritanism, banned those clean-living Osmonds from its airwaves because they assumed Crazy Horses was about drugs. The song is, in fact, the rockingest environmental anthem of its day – at least among those songs of that kind aimed at the pubescent crowd or younger. The song is, of course, not about heroin, but about the air pollution caused by [...]

Steve Penk's The Revolution radio station isn't just there to encourage suicidal people to kill themselves. Now, it's also the home of Donny Osmond . Penk sees this as quite the feather in his cap: Penk added that research on social media sites, such as Facebook, illustrated that Osmond has firm fans in the region - "the data clearly shows the people of the North West are the most passionate about Donny and his amazing forty-plus year career," Penk opined. Perhaps, Steve, but I think you'll find that's North West Utah, [...]
In 1973 The Osmonds released The Plan , their most ambitious project thus far in their careers. I talked a little about this album about three years ago and having just listened to it front to back again, thought I would revisit this gem. Coming hot off the heels of their Crazy Horses album the brothers were proving that they were not a bubblegum band. Writing and performing their own material, something that they had wanted to do for a long time but had been held back by their handlers at the time. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours Aside from being nervous about obtaining their American visa and fending off hate mail from people in Liverpool because they are named after John Lennon 's assassin, the Chapman Family are just back from playing live in Italy and are holed up in a Newcastle studio recording their self-titled debut album. The post-punk lads are one of last year's NME Radar stars and described by NME as making "music that can change your life." [...]
Filed under: News , R.I.P. Singer Marie Osmond 's son Michael Blosil jumped to his death from his Los Angeles apartment building Friday, according to ET Online. He was 18. Blosil had suffered from a "lifelong battle with depression," according to ET, and left a suicide note in which he said he felt he "had no friends and would never fit in." Blosil, whom Osmond adopted with now ex-husband Brian Blosil, was one of seven children, five of whom are adopted. Osmond and Blosil divorced [...]

Everyone knows The Osmonds as the very hookie, mormon singing group that rivaled the Partridge Family for corniest family group of the 70's.
There is a reason I haven't been around for a bit. Homercat has finally acquired a turntable and he has been rediscovering the vinyl age. So all those vinyl albums that have been sitting around forever finally got to have their moment in the sun again. The price was right too, as in free. We were at a friends house that has tons of vinyl and he showed me crates and crates of stuff that he was going to get rid of as they were all duplicates. See he buys vinyl by the boxful and [...]

Posted below are three songs from the early '70's that each, in their own way, defied expectations. The three songs were released by groups that any music listener at the time would have dismissed as crass, commercial, bubblegum, middle of the road, mainstream and at best, trivial. At least one of the groups - the Carpenters - has undergone a rightly-deserved critical evaluation and are now recognized not only for the artistry and beauty of Karen Carpenter's voice, but for the brilliance of the arrangements and the high quality of the song writing. Paul Revere and the Raiders were actually [...]

Throughout these pages I've made no secret about the fact that I'm a huge fan of The Osmonds. So I was happier than a pig in poop when this release made it's appearance last year. The Osmonds 50th Anniversary Reunion Concert Live in Las Vegas was one of PBS' top pledge drive programs last year. Unfortunately I missed the original airing but in April of last year it made its debut at #3 on Billboard magazine's Top Music Video sales charts while the 2 DVD Collector's Edition version reached #16. In addition, the companion CD [...]

Michael's comment the other day about Down In The Boondocks got me thinking about the guy who made it famous, Billy Joe Royal . Royal, who was born in Marietta, GA in 1942, was a local sensation at a very young age, known throughout Georgia well before Joe South convinced him to record Down In The Boondocks, his first and best-known hit. After Boondocks went to #9 in 1965, he released I Knew You When (which peaked at #14) [...]
Classic ;) Osmonds, The - I, I, I

I am soo excited about this mixtape from Rico Uno Lets look at the facts.... track choice great, transitions great, execution great. Just goes to show what happens when talent and taste come together. Make sure you cop this now cause i think this is going to go on CD sale soon and we might get a takedown for it. Thanks to U-Tern for giving us the go ahead to throw this up. This post goes out to my homies [...]
It's been a very political week in what will surely be a political year. McCain managed to find some hot redneck babe in Alaska who was more conservative than himself and more tied to oil companies. Obama picked a dude as old and white as McCain. Hell, the police riot on the first day of the RNC was way bigger than the one at the RATM show. Jose says when in doubt vote brown. [...]
CS, Now that's not fair ...there are some noted conservatives/Republicans that have made some very good, if not popular, music...for example: Pat Boone -- Moody River A song essentially about a suicide honor killing. Boone's girlfriend cheats on him and commits suicide because she can't stand what she did. Pat Boone -- Speedy Gonzales A song about a quick mouse? You bet. But really it speaks to the current immigration policy..."Speedy Gonzales, why don't you come home?" i.e. Mexico. [...]
