One of the Venues for Dawson City Music Fest Looking for an alternative to Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, or the so-last-week (and the week before) Coachella? Maybe something a little smaller, cheaper, more obscure, or just further away? Here are a few recommendations from this year's crop of Canadian summer music festivals. Hillside Festival Guelph, Ontario July 27-29 The Gist: [...]

Joseph Arthur is a talented singer-songwriter with a fairly dedicated fanbase, yet he stood out like a sore thumb on this bill. With the possible exception of Brett Caswell and the Marquee Rose, who went on right before Arthur, he really had nothing in common with the rest of the acts on the bill. Case in point: this evening's headliners were Hamilton hard rockers Monster Truck. A fine band certainly, but I imagine there's not a great deal of crossover between their fans. (in fact, I could be one of the few ... didn't stick around for Monster Truck though) [...]

The 30th Annual Canadian Music Week is winding down. A lot of stuff was going on this year - one of the most notable things was the comeback of Canadian rock group, Treble Charger. Do you remember their single from 2000, American Psycho ? Oh man, the nostalgia. Anyways, here are my picks for tonight. ** Be sure to follow me on Twitter @feeonalui and @awmusicblog for live tweets from tonight's CMF festivities! The Indies at Royal York Hotel - Canadian Room. Happy belated International Women's Day! Here to smash your faces in with their own brand of fuzzified, garage rock are The Pack A.D.! Holidays aside, what's not to love about The Pack A.D. and "Sirens?" Built around the steady application of chugging guitars and thundering drums, "Sirens" wiggles it's infectious claws into your brain. That little voice telling you to bang your head and pump your fist? That's "Sirens." Coming out of the verses the song explodes in a fountain of grunge: [...]

photos by Brittney Bollay This afternoon we featured a live in-studio performance with a KEXP favorite: Elliott BROOD . We first fell in love with the Ontario trio after hearing their 2008 full-length, Mountain Meadows , and they've since performed a few times for us in different parts of the country: at SXSW, in Toronto, on the Mural Stage at the Seattle Center. Currently, the BROOD is touring their latest album, Days Into Years , and hit Seattle last week on the actual day of its release. That night, with their dark-woods gothic [...]
So, last week I decided to check out the love show of a band I knew nothing about. I don't get to do that nearly as often as I'd like to, but my pal and local PR man, Nathan put the word out he was looking for a date and I decided to go hang out with him. (Full disclosure: PR man Nathan Walker wrote a few pieces for GLONO in another life. He only sends me shit he think I'll actually like, making him a GOOD PR man). Nathan knows I like good rock and roll and [...]

by teepoo Here's the video for the first single off The Pack Ad's latest album Unpersons . It's a little crazy and makes me want to punch things. Also that dude has an unsettling look in his eyes.

Last month I asked if you guys would be interested in a monthly Ninebullets Spotify playlist. You seemed pretty responsive to the idea so here is the first one. This playlist features every band that was featured on ninebullets in the month of January that was also on Spotify. I hope you enjoy it and if you do, pass it along to some friends. Like I keep saying, every new pair of ears these bands reach is a potential fan/head at show. This month's playlist features: Lauderdale, Ryan Adams, Jason Isbell, The Far West, Will Hoge, [...]
"Sirens" is the first single from The Pack a.d.'s fourth album, Unpersons. Released in 2011 via Mint Records , the Vancouver-based duo of Becky Black (guitar) and Maya Miller (drums) recorded the album with engineer Jesse Gander and famed Detroit producer Jim Diamond (The Dirtbombs, The Paul Collins Beat, The White Stripes.) Read more about it here . The Pack A.D. - "Sirens" http://thepackad.com/

Vancouver-based The Pack a.d. is Becky Black on guitar and vocals and Maya Miller on drums. They share a blues backbone with other well-known guitar-drums duos, such as The Black Keys, White Stripes, and Left Lane Cruiser-but the Pack also has the muscle to bring its ruckus closer to melodic Stooges and X territory. I was going to say they pack more of a punch, but I waited until the next sentence. Unpersons is their fourth album. They're already getting their deserved accolades in Canada, but [...]

There just isn't enough time in my days right now. Here's the new formula around here while I am finishing up my training at the restaurant...instead of trying to do a small posting here and there, my new goal will be to put out a playlist every week. Hopefully that works for you over the next few months until life settles down a bit. I was pretty excited about some of the live shows that have been announced in Vancouver over the next while. Here are some songs from must-see shows coming to town. Enjoy. [...]

Todd V Wolfson I feel that I should say up front that any reservations I have about Kathleen Edwards and her work are entirely my own issues. Since her 2002 debut Failer , I've enjoyed her honest, roots-rock fare but always felt like I expected more from her creatively even though across her first three albums, she'd never shown any signs that she had ambitions beyond being a good singer-songwriter. That said, the fact that she spent her downtime following 20082s Asking For Flowers [...]

Fitz & The Tantrums at Bumbershoot Music Lounge photo by Dave Lichterman We finally got snow in Seattle! For those brave enough to venture out in the wintery elements, this week has a few notable options. On Wednesday The Wailers bring their legendary Reggae act to Neumo's - this is a chance to get up close to some true living legends. Thursday has another great show at Neumo's with Youth Lagoon coming out of hibernation, Shaprece and Reva DeVito bring their unique Northwest flair to the Crocodile, while Gabriel Teodros [...]
