The sign draped behind the stage said it all really. In Loving Memory. It was the name of their criminally under rated second album. But it also summed up the fans feeling about The Paper Scissors . We will love them and we will remember them. If you never got the chance to see them live, well you missed out. They were great and just so much fun. But no more. The band announced a while ago this would be the last show. So a wet Saturday night at The Standard turned into a warm and fun [...]

In some perfect world The Paper Scissors would be big. Much, much bigger then they are now. Why? Well, they are killer live and have a great arsenal of roaring songs. But they are not. Unfortunately. Saturday night they played to a small crowd at the FBI Social room at Kings Cross Hotel. As singer Jai Pyne put it, "a great room swimming in a sea of shit". They were great and greater. Which isn't surprising when you consider that they are drawing their set from an album I consider to be the finest released in [...]
'In Loving Memory' The sound of The Paper Scissors is not something you’ll necessarily love at first listen. Still, they’re one of Sydney's most lovable musicians – and for a good reason. The music has really grown on me. ’In Loving Memory’ is the band’s second album. The songs were written during the band’s travels; [...]

OK, right now, without doubt my favourite Australian album of 2011 is "In Loving Memory" by Sydney's very wonderful The Paper Scissors . It's an exciting, revelatory, pulsating jumble of a record. It rocks and it fuses soul and funk with great creativity. Here is a live version of one of the stand out tracks from the album. "Taller Than You Then", a cranking number from a great album. I highly recommend you buy this record!

I think starting from the age of 8, I wanted to live in England. But now I want to live in Australia. Why? The Paper Scissors is one really good reason. They had me with one song, 'Lung Sum', last autumn ( Bands to Watch feature and video here ). The Paper Scissors just released a new album, 'In Loving Memory', last week on Source Music / MGM Distribution, and judging from this one track they're giving away for absolutely free, it'll be a good'un. The vocals on [...]

In Loving Memory is a revelation. I am not overly familiar with the Paper Scissors, and what I assumed would be a slightly better than average album has been one of my favorites of [...]

The Paper Scissors From: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia The Paper Scissors were first featured on the Devil's blog way back in 2009 ( Rock Music ) and time has clearly not dulled their senses nor my enthusiasm for their stunning nu wave. Taller Than You Then from their new album, In Loving Memory , sounds like The Strokes arm wrestling Talking Heads in the outback which is [...]
![[MP3] THE PAPER SCISSORS are TALLER THAN regular scissors but YOU knew that even back THEN](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3525866_lg.jpg)
when you numbers up, there's nothing you can do ♫ The Paper Scissors - Taller Than You Then Alright! A little crunch in my lunch! It's refreshing to have some rawer sounds mixing in with all the sun-kissed stuff I've been vibing on. The Paper Scissors Have apparently been guitaring it up in Australia since 2005 but that damned hemisphere barrier has kept them from my ears until recently. I'm about to dive into their latest album, In Loving Memory , but I had to share this jam first. "Taller Than [...]

Today's song is "Taller Than You Then" by Paper Scissors . This song is off their new album In Loving Memory . The songs were written during the band’s travels; from home in Sydney to as far away as Queens, New York, in various studios and via email through numerous long sessions. Jai Pyne has written lyrics about a range of topics from family, love, drunkenness, alcoholism, death, sex, the ocean, weather, isolation and more, bringing a disparate collection of musings into one of the most coherent and focused collections of songs from an Australian band this year. [...]
