Day One was fun. Day Two, however, was met with a splitting sinus headache and stories of crowded photo pits with iPhones and friends of the friends of the bands that got in as "Press". Such is the festival atmosphere. It is like an insurance conference where normal human beings sometimes get a little nuts. Regardless, we had a punch list and we were going to punch it. Head past the break for a few notes and plenty of pics. Nathan: I [...]

Psych Fest is going down this weekend over on the East Side of town, and I wanted to give you a few bands I think you should check out. The first band I've got for you is Nashville's The Paperhead . After releasing a wonderful self-titled record last year, they've got a new 73 on Trouble in Mind Records this year; this new jam displays their blossoming maturity in regards to their songwriting. You will find that it's a lot less psychedelic than the last effort, [...]

Not that we had a winter this year on the East Coast, but Spring is in full bloom here in Brooklyn. Post-bloom actually, which is a good thing for you allergy sufferers. And so thaws my blog which has been on deep freeze since February. So here we are with this year's Spring Fever mix and I think it turned out pretty good! Lots of great new sounds, covering a lot of sonic territory (well, within a certain pale milieu, let's face it). Anyway, here you go, do enjoy. DOWNLOAD SPRING FEVER 2012 [...]

Nashville psych-rock outfit The Paperhead—formerly known as The Looking Glass—released their first record in 2010 as a 100-run casette on hometown label Infinity Cat. That long sold-out release showcased three 18 year-olds tapping into a space time-warp of vintage psychedelia, utilizing the sort of fuzz, tone, and heavy LSD-inspired exploratory jams that were first born in the late 1960s. The band's sound has quickly earned them a devoted following since then with vinyl releases on the UK's Ample Play and Chicago's Trouble In Mind. Not only are the members' musical chops undeniable, but their playful mix of instrumentation is impossible [...]

JEFF the Brotherhood videos, William Tyler gets "the biggest shaft this year" from Pitchfork & news on the Paperhead, the Kills & Minus the Bear.
The Paperhead illustrates a shrewd ability to place mature craftsmanship into their own unorthodox style.

Welcome to the special SXSW edition of Something Old and Something New from Some Velvet Blog , coming to you live from Austin, Texas. Photo by Steve Gullick For Something Old this week, I've dug through the crates for this classic from The Flatlanders the legendary trio of Butch Hancock, Joe Ely and long time Austin resident Jimmie Dale Gilmore. The song comes from their classic roots record [...]

Nashville's teenage neo-psych poppers, The Paperheads, are set to release their new self titled LP next week. Take a listen to the track Back To Those Days, it's way groovy man. The Paperheads; Back To Those Days

Here we are again. A mix of the best tracks we posted in February and a few new ones too. Twenty seven cracking songs to immerse yourself in! Download O'Death – Bugs mp3 (from Outside) Echoes of their ramshackle and punkish best, but this time it is cocooned in something more subtle and thoughtful too. Download The Whalers – That Rabbit mp3 (from How The Ship Goes Down) Playing a wonderfully straightforward blend of thudding, bass-heavy rock that makes us think of QotSA melded with [...]
Have you ever pondered what Vanilla Fudge might have sounded like if they swallowed a handful of mandies followed by Nyquil chasers? Me either, until I came across The Paperhead , a thick-as-molasses, psyche-sludge teenage trio hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. These southern moppets rock it with an old-soul, Merry Prankster reverberation that do their stoned-out ancestors; Moby Grape, The Chocolate Watchband and The Electric Prunes, proud. Moreover, they'll have you fully convinced they're straight out of the Bay Area, circa 1967. If you secretly adored every kaleidoscopic aspect of the cult-classic Psych-Out , including Jack [...]
The Paperheads are a trio of 18 year old guys from Nashville, who's doing an extremely surprisingly professional Psych rock, with traces of Kaleidoscope (UK), July and Tomorrow. I've stumbled upon The Paperheads in the fantastic blog Raven Sings The Blues, and I got hooked by their music. Fans of all the above and White Fence [...]

Tell me that a band has taken their name from long lost 60's band July and I'm intrigued. Tell me that band is a scruffy bunch of 18 year olds out of Nashville and I'm astounded, but still intrigued. That's a testament to the internet's ability to provide a wealth of influences that used to befit the most ardent collector to anyone with the time and high speed connection. The Paperhead seem to have stumbled on a few other of our favorite Nuggets-era pop-psych drifters as well; floating through bits of Tomorrow, Kaleidoscope, The Pretty Things and a whole lot [...]
Check out this jangly, drilling psych-rock track by The Paperhead - it's called "Back to Those Days" off their upcoming eponymous album due out March 22 through Trouble in Mind Records . Listen here . - Jessica Pace

The Paperhead is a Nashville based band comprised of 3 friends who are mere 18 years of age. These 3 teens apparently got together last summer, recorded a record, and are now ready to share their style with the music world. A first sample of what these guys are all about can be found below in first single from the band "Back to Those Days". It wields a very old school type feel harking back to the days of fuzz pop and pysch rock. Fans of the style can pick up a copy of the group's debut self-titled LP [...]
