I remember my first exposure to stellastarr* was with Richard back at Coachella 2004 in a tent back when it was still a two day festival. I recall him really like their debut album and mentioned wanting to check them out. It wasn't too crowded, so we headed right towards the front and I really ended up enjoying the set. Suffice to say, I bought the album after getting back home. In 2005 they released Harmonies for the Haunted to lukewarm success. I actually enjoyed it, but still would choose their debut if given [...]

"Paging Dr. Dog ; Dr. Dog needed in the ER". "Patients at the Parish need resuscitation." If you missed the sold out show at the Parish late Tuesday night, your heart rate may thank you, but your feet? Not so much. The young Philly rockers pounded out a heart racing, feet stomping 1.5 hour set comprised of songs from their critically acclaimed albums 'Fate' and 'We All Belong', with a few gems from earlier releases. Follow the jump to read all about it, check out the setlist and see a handful [...]

Looks like local buzz band White Denim are going to start playing regularly around town again after taking a little break from the Austin scene. The Parish is one of the few places I can't remember the band playing and the venue should provide a unique experience to see the band. Fellow locals Corto Maltese and Ume will be opening things up. Doors are at 9:30 with music at 10:30. Tickets are on sale now for $9 if you're of age and $12 if you're still illegal. [...]

The Dear's sweet dark sound returns with their latest release Missiles. In support of the new music the band are embarking on an extensive tour of the U.S. which is especially exciting because we get a show here in Austin. Even better is that they have invited not one but two fantastic bands to support them. Listen to [ The Dears ] First up you have Great Northern who were amazing at SXSW and just recorded "Remind [...]
[LISTEN TO " PJ HARVEY & JOHN PARISH // Sixteen, Fifteen, Fourteen... "] It sounds like... :... ![SXSW Review: Barsuk/Merge Showcase [The Parish, March 22, 2009]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1620002_lg.jpg)
Toronto - Now that I am back, I can take the time to recount the last night of SXSW. Twas a night after 3 gigantic beef ribs measuring 1 ft each, mash potatoes, beans, corn, 2 cups of coffee and too much sugar. After standing in the line up for 30 minute I was surprised that I could not only get into the Parish, but inch slowly towards the front, and by the end of Lou Barlow's last song I was touching the stage. What luck. Well, it turns out there were drama waiting for me. Oh and yes there [...]
The South By Southwest Music Conference starts today, so let's talk strategy. There are no shortage of fantastic artists performing at all hours for the next 4 days in Austin, so the first thing you need to do is get WASTED. Go ahead, I'll wait... OK now that you're at least two sheets to the wind on Shiner Bocks and whatever illicit drugs you happen to fancy, you're better suited for rule #1: don't try to see everything, or you will wind up seeing nothing. Wednesday/Thursday at SXSW is relatively easy to navigate from [...]

As you may have already heard, Grizzly Bear is set to release their third full-length album, Veckatimest on May 26th. The guys took the strange name for the album from an island in Dukes County, Massachusetts . The artwork was done by William J. O'brien . A few days ago, a terrible rip of the new album was leaked on the web and we're trying our damnest to fight the urge to find it and listen to it. We can wait. Hopefully. If you'd like to get your chance [...]

Michael Benjamin Lerner records under the moniker of Telekinesis, and he's the most recent signing to indie stalwart Merge Records . His self-titled album is set to come out on April 7th, and its precisely the sort of album one would want with a Spring release; its full of warmth, yet filled with memorable pop moments. His whole sound is difficult to put down on paper, as there seem to be many underlying elements. At some moments, he sounds like the more mature brother of young [...]

A fantastic lineup at The Parish the other night. Annuals played a great set and have only improved since we last saw them at Fun Fun Fun Fest . Black Keys/Dan Auerbach friend and contributor Jessica Lee Mayfield was stunning and our good friends What Laura Says gave us a sneak preview of what to expect the next time we see them at SXSW . Overall an excellent show. The tour continues with the dates below. [...]
