Sounding highly reminiscent to Gabriel & Dresden's remix of Gustavo Santaolalla's 'The Wings' (on Butyreux's re-rub of 'Whatever Leads Me To You'), Butyreux (pronounced butirò) puts his unique classification of the house music genre to one side, programmes up his selection of alternative dance, house and disco records - and combines this love across Mothead and Geoffrey O'Connor dramatically. Time to call up those smoke machines and glowsticks Boys & Girls ... GEOFFREY O'CONNOR - Whatever Leads Me To You (Butyreux remix)
You may not have heard much from our friends at Overcooked Records since our interview with Jack The Hustler back in December. This time, they present us with Mothead: "Made up of two young brothers, Charlie & Will Cook, Mothead bring you their debut EP with remixes from HeavyFeet, Jay Robinson, & Butyreux. While Charlie focuses on the production side of [...]

The Parting Gifts were born out of a collaboration between Greg Cartwright (frontman of The Reigning Sound) and Coco Hames (lead singer for The Ettes). Cartwright and Hames first worked together in 2009, when Cartwright was invited to produce an album for The Ettes. Cartwright and Hames discovered they were musically compatible and decided to collaborate on a one-off single, with each contributing one song. However, once they set aside some time to write material, the ideas came fast and furious, and before long Cartwright and Hames had enough songs to fill an album, so the single gave way to [...]

This week's round up of the tracks I've not had the space to post ... Thee Ludds From: Leicester, United Kingdom Garage rock so primal it probably lives in a cave wearing a bearskin and eating dinosaur meat off the bone. Go Try [...]
In this edition of Influenza the Ettes' "Coco" Hames explains the development of "Excuse," including its lyrical aim at expressing her "fed up" attitude.

D33J outta the WEDIDIT Collective presents us with a 20 minute tape that he cooked up. It's mad chill and ambient so sit back and relax for the next twenty minutes as the synths carry you off... This is what D33J has to say on it: Gonna Dip for a few weeks round South/Eastern Europe so not sure ill have to much time for recording/ working on finishing the next EP. wanted to give you guys something thats been overdue for a while now. This tape was recorded in the now deceased 'Traphouse", where a gang [...]

CM Punk & Hayley Williams: Transcending punk rock, one bodyslam at a time. • Hayley Williams : You just went through a nasty public breakup with your band's founding members, what are you going to do next? Survey says: party with remaining friends at a professional wrestling match and release a snippet of a solo song in the face of your band just being called a guise for your solo project. Nice. Also, that MTV special about the band's drama aired last week... I genuinely tried to watch it, [...]

It's easy to scoff at a record as outwardly self-indulgent as the Parting Gifts' Strychnine Dandelion. You'd be forgiven for thinking the 15 tracks on offer here are covers of songs from some of the most influential bands of the 50s and 60s, such is their instant familiarity. But one's familiarity is another's unoriginality. We've become accustomed to artists attempting to put their stamp on that said era but are seemingly less inured to performers paying homage to their influences quite as professedly and wholeheartedly as the Parting Gifts do. Yet, when it's done with as much vigour [...]

Greg Cartwright (or Greg Oblivion if you prefer) currently of Reigning Sound and Coco Hames of the Ettes released a record under the moniker The Parting Gifts called Strychnine Dandelions on In The Red in November. The band is coming around the area with shows at Maxwells in Hoboken on 12/2 and Union Pool in Brooklyn on 12/3. As to be expected this is a straight up rock and roll jam. The Parting Gifts, "Don't Hurt Me Now"

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars It's not like Greg Cartwright is new to the game of rock n' roll, but he manages to continuously add the tiniest tweaks to his sound, crafting solid album after album. This time around, we find Greg joined by Coco Hames of the Ettes to form The Parting Gifts . Their new release, Strychnine Dandelion , is all over the map, but it lives in a place of nostalgic sound, harkening back to [...]

I won't speak for my readers, but personally I love nothing more than good straight-forward, down & dirty, classical-era inspired rock n' roll. The type of album that could only exist because a few dudes hung out and dropped the needle on stacks and stacks of vinyl by folks like the Kinks, Rolling Stones and David Bowie. I imagine this hypothetical crew thinking: "No one writes them like they used to". And who knows, maybe I'm way off base here, but - based on their music - it certainly sounds to me like you could have pretty heated conversations with [...]

I hate that you can spend so much time listening to music and still miss so many great bands that are out there. The flip side of that is great, though: there's always a new opportunity to find something you love. A group or artist from any era or genre can catch your ear and you're a new fan. And that's nothing to be sad about. I was recently introduced to The Ettes. They've been around since 2006 and, while I was completely oblivious, released three great albums. I'm going back through their catalog now and loving the garage-y [...]
Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound and Coco Hames of the Ettes just planned to make a split-45 together, but they ended up with an entire album and a new band. The Parting Gifts' debut full-length, Strychnine Dandelion, will be released November 9 via In The Red, and it happens to feature appearances from Dan Auerbach [...]

This spunky Parting Gifts track is a lovely slice of rockin' good times. It sounds a bit French too, but that's no bad thing. 'Keep Walkin'' is the opening track of the band's debut album 'Strychnine Dandelion', out on November 9 through In The Red, and it's had our feet-a-tapping all day long. There are catchy riffs, catchy choruses, catchy beats, catchy melodies – to say this song is catchy would be an understatement and an injustice, so we apologise for the first half of this sentence.
