Hope you all had fun last night. Tonight and Sunday are just as loaded, so without further delay, here's what to check out: Eulogies (photo by brantley gutierrez, via bands myspace) Some bands are staring their multiple city stop Saturday. The one I recommend is Eulogies joining up with our friends Middle Distance Runner , set to drop a new album very soon, and The Payola Reserve , who [...]

Holy crap! Did you read that headline? It's true! We've teamed up with the fabulous Metro Gallery here in Baltimore to bring you one of our favorite DC bands Middle Distance Runner on March 29th. Earlier in March they'll be playing SXSW then they kick off this tour with another favorite of mine, Eulogies as well as locals Payola Reserve . Baltimore has the honor of being the closing date of the small tour so you know the gang will be crazy energized. MDR will also be playing in support of their upcoming [...]

After some great weather and a holiday you either love or hate (damn you, St. Valentine!), winter is somehow still here. And since I got a new cable line wired into the apartment, so am I. Spring is just around the corner and bands are gearing up for the festival of festival in Austin. Yes, SXSW is only a month away. So prepare yourself for a veritable onslaught of bands fine tuning their shows before heading down Texas way. Papertrigger A few bands are [...]

There's not too many classic movie theaters left 'round these parts these days, but luckily for me and the residents of Baltimore The Senator Theatre is still up and running. Its the place I go when I want to see an awesome movie because there's no place like it. I remember waiting in line to see the remakes of the Star Wars trilogy. I remember going to see Hairspray for the first time there...and Crybaby...and most of John Waters' movies there. I could keep going, but unfortunately these tough times might prevent The Senator from keeping it's lights [...]

DeVotchka (Photo From Band's Myspace) All the holidays are long over, the madness that was DC earlier this week has passed and I have finally situated myself into a new apartment and secured an internet connection. Now I can get you the low down on what to check out this weekend in the IA area. Not much on the multi-stop front. Most already played elsewhere earlier this week or are coming soon to your town. That said, there are plenty of shows worth seeing. Friday [...]

Tonight Baltimore is sporting some fine musical events and we couldn't be happier. Over at the Gspot Ted Leo and Cale Parks perform. Not sure if this is sold out (the DC and Philly shows are) but it most likely will (or it already is). If you're looking for a smaller but still solid show around town then look no further than the Sidebar who has the Asteroid #4 performing. For a lighter sound then head over to the Talking Head to see Radar Brothers, E. Joseph, and the Payola Reserve. If you're in the mood [...]

The holidays are closing in. After all the shopping and company parties, treat yourself to one of the fine shows coming to the IA area this weekend. Photo By Ellisa Keller Ted Leo is making the rounds this weekend with three shows. Playing his solo work and all the favorites as leader of the Pharmacists, two of the shows are already sold out and the other is sure to follow. In the opening slot is Aloha percussionist/pianist and White Williams member Cale Parks . [...]

Good lord. Where do I even begin? There is so much happening this weekend in the region, it'll be hard NOT to see a show. Big names, local acts, one nighters, two cities, you want it, you got it. There are quite a few bands doing the I-95 two-step this weekend. In support of their latest release with the main players back, that other band from Athens, The B-52's are doing a two-fer Friday in Philly with an XPN Free at Noon and then a regular set later that night at [...]

Nic and I spent the weekend camping, so that entailed cold nights and lots of hours in the car with artists like Van Morrison, The Band, and any other AM radio-esque anthem we could find. I took the time to listen to a few promos that arrived, and trying to stick to the theme of our weekend getaway, here are two that fit the bill: Shuyler Jansen - Today's Remains Wow. Talk about a lead off hitter. The opening number, Pegasus , clocks in at 5:15 seconds and still somehow feels too short! [...]
The Payola Reserve are going to have to indulge me a bit as I waver a bit from standard record review format. I met the Payola Reserve at their practice space/studio (listen to Episode 5 of Any Given...

Let's keep this simple. To me, this site has always been about supporting the local music scene. So I decided, that there is no better way to celebrate our first anniversary, than to make a mix of local music from the past year. I had so much fun, that I ended up making two discs. Some of these bands have come a long way in the last 12 months, some didn't even exist when we started and others are no more. That said, every song is from a band that claims (or claimed) the Baltimore/Washington metro area as [...]

For those of you kicking it in Baltimore tonight, there is a pretty good local show happening at Sonar . Local bands The Payola Reserve , The Heavycoats and Faster Faster Harder Harder will be joined by NYC's The Sugar Report for what should be a great night of music. The Heavycoats - Sea Song The Sugar Report - For My Sanity Alone The Payola Reserve - Music Is Not Music Faster Faster Harder Harder - Calm Down

For those of you that will be in or around Baltimore tonight, there is a show worth checking out at Ottobar . The flyer pretty much says it all. There will be 5 regional bands playing, drink specials and they will be giving away 20 passes to every show in 2007. If you go, prepare to hear some great music from some of the region's finest. The Payola Reserve - Lay In Wait The Seldon Plan - Making Circles These Unites States - So High So Low [...]
Yeah, the rumors are true. Today is my birthday. Thanks to everyone that has wished me well. I was trying to figure out what the hell I wanted to do for my birthday post, then it kind of hit me. I wanted to do a mix of some type. I also have been wanting to do a mix of some of the best local music, so it seemed like a good fit. This mix includes bands from the Baltimore, Washington, and the southcentral Pennsylvania region. This is the whole region that I cover. [...]

Finally, I am home. It seems like it has been forever. I had a nice relaxing week in the Caribbean, but I am definitely happy to be home. When I heard a cab driver cuss out someone at the airport, I knew that I was back in Baltimore and it felt great. I came home to a full inbox and lots of odds and ends that I did not get to before I left. Of course, this is [...]
