EH1 Live - Review When I got asked if I fancied covering this one day event in Edinburgh I really didn't have to think very hard. On the face of it a good line-up of unsigned acts and it was taking place across one day and in five Edinburgh venues I knew well. Easy decision. So, off the nation's capital I go and decide to head for Electric Circus first. The Machine Room are due on and I figure that's as good [...]

I hate camping. I fucking hate it. You're always surrounded by midges and grass and trees and fresh air and everything else that's wrong with the world. I have twice endured festival camping in my short lifetime. One time was Connect in 2007, where, for some daft reason, we pitched the tent on a hill. When it came time to get some shut-eye (sleeping at a festival, eh? I'm wild, me...), I experienced this recurring, unsettling feeling of slowly sliding downwards headfirst every time I neared sleep. I thought we were going to career head first into the next tent [...]

This week I have decided to plump for three Scottish artists that you can catch at today's Stag & Dagger Festival which is taking place across various venues in Glasgow. Showcasing a wealth of local talent alongside an array of touring acts, it looks like it could be a cracking day out. Personally I am not going as I'd already arranged to meet friends to watch the Champions League Final, but hey if you are going make sure you check out Miaoux Miaoux and Adam Stafford, they're both braw! The Phantom Band - Fujiyama (Moondog cover) [...]
In 2010 DS interviewed Django Django when they were set to make their first trip to SXSW, but unfortunately the band never made it due to visa issues. This year The Djangos finally made it to Austin and were undoubtedly one of the buzz bands of the week. Here is that interview with new video. [...]
As the sun sets over London the mid-week gig goers begin to leave their flats and head toward the vibrations. Tonight's gig at XOYO is sold out and there is an abundance of music lovers loitering across the road hoping to attract a tout or seduce the door staff for free entry. The headliners of this jamboree are the Scotland via England indie-electro boys, Django Django. Having released their debut self-titled album last month, tickets for this subsequent tour are proving to be hot property. Before the 800-strong crowd are treated to [...]

Phantom Band "Brain Police"

As I am sure that most of you will already know, the axe is very much hanging over Ally McCrae's BBC Introducing Scotland show on Radio 1. If you're reading this blog then I guess it's safe to say that you're already a big supporter of Scottish music and that the loss of this show would be a major kick in the teeth. As part of the campaign to save the show my friend the Pop Cop and promoter Paul from Pelemet Nites have organised a get together thus Sunday afternoon 1pm outside the Pacific Quay building. The afternoon will [...]

Until just recently I had decided that I was now too old to go to music festivals, the thought of waking up in a tent just really didn't appeal to me anymore. In short I was starting to think along the same lines as this grumpy old sod . However, when Randolph's Leap offered me one of their 'plus ones' for this years Wickerman Festival, I found myself changing my mind somewhat. I used to be the kind of person who looked to see who the headliners would be, this time round though I found myself looking at the [...]

Fortunately, the weather once again holds out on Sunday as thousands of music fans flood into the centre of Sheffield for the last day of Tramlines 2011. By early afternoon, venue capacities become how many people will fit and still be able to get to the bar and the main stage has a steady moving queue. For this reason, I return to the New Music Stage, which today is curated by local screamo/hardcore group Rolo Tomassi. The band have great taste, as the first band I see are [...]

Right I know I said I wasn't going to do one of these for a few weeks, but seeing as my favourite bookmarks is getting out of control I thought I'd post up some links to some of the best stuff that I've found recently. We Were Promised Jetpacks One of the main reason for me wanting to post a Freebies was the new Jetpacks song, I fully appreciate that most of you will have already downloaded their new song ' Act On Impulse ', but if you haven't then you really should as [...]

Last week, on the subject of T in the Park, we mentioned that we’re so insatiable for festivals, we’ve taken to having two reviewers at some of our favourites. Our intrepid Live Editor Paul Brown ventured south for Latitude, and is sharing his weekend experiences with you today and tomorrow. You can read Natalie Shaw’s take on the festival here . Festival Season makes us a little bit insatiable here at Muso's Guide. We've already had Natalie Shaw's review of the festival, but we were so excited about T in the Park, we sent two writers. Here's Steve McGillivray's perspective on the festivities... [...]

There are plenty of artists toiling away within Glasgow’s music scene, but none of them work harder than The Phantom Band. Not that these Scots spend much time on home turf: since the release of their sophomore album, "The Wants," late last year, they’ve been touring incessantly. The Wants turned out to be an impressive listen, full of musical ideas, and the result of focused alchemy in the studio. With the northern festival season about to begin and a rough plan for a new album sometime towards the end of 2011, the chances of The Phantom Band getting down to [...]

Words: Saam Das Day 2 of my 2011 Gaymers Camden Crawl experience. Day 1 went pretty well and I managed to catch eight or so bands that I'd never seen before in amongst some minor japery. I was determined on Day 2 to go one step further and check out even more new bands. I'm pleased to report that I managed that feat. First up [...]

June 20th is set to be an important day for Scottish indie troop Copy Haho - it'll mark the release of the bands debut album. Here's what the band had to say about the recording of the forthcoming album: "We recorded the album at Chemikal Underground’s Chem19 studios outside Glasgow, in Scotland. It was recorded with Jamie Savage ( The Phantom Band , James Yorkston …) and was mixed by Simon Ward (of Errors ). Michael Marshall played viola on the album. Thanks, Michael. The album is being released [...]
The Phantom Band is: Duncan Marquiss (guitar), Gerry Hart (bass), Andy Wake (keyboards), Rick Anthony (vocals), Damien Tonner (drums) and Greg Sinclair (née Yale, guitars). But you wouldn’t know that easily. They weren’t so named until 2006. The Glasgow psychedelics dived beneath your attention by changing their band name every year or so (NRA, Les [...]
