Although Tennis claims the release date is a coincidence, Valentines Day is perfect for the release of Young & Old , the Denver band's second album. If you don't know the story: the espoused Patrick Riley and Aliana Moore spent a romantic half-year sailing along the East Coast, during which they composed songs that would become their debut, Cape Dory . Produced in part with The Black Keys' Patrick Carney, the new album finds the duo evolved into a band, with drummer James Barone now a full member. You can read an exclusive interview with the [...]

So happy hearts day! Those are red bell peppers up there but it's the closest thing I had to hearts... aside from all the hearts I have collected in my basement. But no sense in broadcasting that to the world. Have you ever listened to a group's discography and then realized that their new album is coming out the next day? For me, that happened on the eve of the new Islands' album. While I enjoyed Arm's Way (2008), Vapours (2009) thrust me into fandom. Exciting, right? Along with A Sleep & A Forgetting, we won't forget the thrilling Sick Friend album, sick vibes from The Phenomenal Handclap Band and something for perhaps a matured ear with The Explorers Club. Canada's Islands even have some excellently creepy videos (" Creeper ", " [...]

Dear Trading Standards, I would like to complain about the false advertising perpetrated by the name of the American indie ensemble Phenomenal Handclap Band . Not about the use of the word "phenomenal", as I know this is entirely subjective; my problem is that I was expecting at least some jaunty, fun-time hand-claps somewhere amongst the eleven tracks on their most recent album. And yet there are none. Do I have a case? Yours sincerely, Thomas Baker Right, now we've got that unpleasant business out of the way, we [...]
The Phenomenal Handclap Band : Following - MP3 Comme personne n'est parfait, j'avais raté cette track sortie fin de l'an passé. Nobody's perfect and I did miss this great track released end of last year. Since Form & Control , The Phenomenal Handclap Band 's [...]
New York collective Phenomenal Handclap Band return with their sophomore album, and it's a curious beast. You know when they travel to the future in the Bill and Ted films, and it's basically the 1980s except it's the future? That's pretty much what this album is. Except with the 1970s. And no Keanu Reeves, which is a shame. It's all disco grooves, funk guitar, layer cake production and vocal arrangements that sound like a computer has been fed a load of ABBA, Blondie and Scissor Sisters and programmed to compose something. In 2009, the Phenomenal Handclap Band debuted with an album of nostalgic grooves that felt like opening up the trunk of your cool uncle's Mustang to find a bewildering array of funk and soul vinyls. The New York-based group's self-titled album had guest spots from members of TV on the Radio, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and The Dap-Kings to back them up. After a tour with Bryan Ferry and a Diane Birch-assisted covers EP, the Phenomenal Handclap Band return with its sophomore release, Form & Control , which feels more centered, yet as retro [...]
The Phenomenal Handclap Band 's new video for 'The Right One' is trippy but not in the conventional sense. For example, this is entirely in black and white. While New York's Baeblemusic thinks you should be on something to enjoy it , we don't necessarily agree. (And if you were wondering, the band replied back to Baeblemusic, saying it was a "very rare substance" anyway. Ha!)

The Phenomenal Handclap Band have got a new video for "The Right One." It sort of strikes us as a black and white version of that White Stripes video from a few years back (no, not the Lego one). You'll probably know it when you view "The Right One" above.

Last year GOMMA was approached to rework some songs from the legendary Casablanca Records catalogue. MOULLINEX , Telonius, Munk and The Phenomenal Handclap Band did four new interpretations of classic tracks by Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder, Skatt Brothers, Stephanie Mills and from the Flashdance soundtrack! For the project they needed a very special vocalist, who they believed had the right understanding of history, the perfect dirty approach and enough soul. They found her in the former Canadian, PEACHES . [...]

Looks like Gomma are at it too! They have unleashed their "All-Stars": Munk, Moullinex, Telonius and The Phenomenal Handclap band on the Casablanca Records back catalogue to create a series of brilliant reworks featuring vocals from Peaches across the board. Absolutely loving Maniac from Peaches and Moullinex! p.s. Telonius's Donna Summer Our Love rework is pretty good but compare to Peter Zohdy & Michael Senna's Chicago rework...
