I meant to post this a few days back. Here's a new dope cut from The Phenomenal Handclap Band called "Testimony". They come straight out of NYC & are the newest addition to Friendly Fire Records . I will definately be keeping them on my radar! The Phenomenal Handclap Band - "Testimony" (mp3) Spotted @ We Like It Indie PigeonsandPlanes

Friendly Fire Recordings are pleased to introduce you to their latest signing, The Phenomenal Handclap Band. They're an NYC group led by veteran producers Daniel Collas & Sean Marquand, & featuring contributions from L'Trimm, Calla, Sí Se, TV on the Radio, The Dap Kings, & The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. PHB blend psychedelic space disco & smooth 60s-style soul perfectly with early hip hop, and moody, synth-soaked hooks. They'll be releasing their debut album this summer. The Phenomenal Handclap Band is a project started by Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand, NYC soul/funk DJ's who were looking to advance their careers as producers by forming a collective of musician-friends from various genres. The result is a nu-disco sound with elements of pyschedelia, soul, electro, funk and rock. They just signed to Friendly Fire Recordings and will release their debut album this summer. This is definitely my most highly anticipated album of the year. They will play a FREE show, Tuesday May 12th at Southpaw in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Let's dance. Check out their [...]

I posted a live video version of this a while back . Like I said then, recommended for those into LCD Soundsystem / DFA etc. 'cos its very disco-punky. I F-CKS with this band. [via RCRD LBL ] Online: The Phenomenal Handclap Band - MySpace | Blog
I am occasionally guilty of judging a book by its cover. When I first heard the name "Phenomenal Handclap Band" I thought to myself "it sounds like a bunch of hippies with bongos and handclapping and such." Don't ask me why...

One Helluva Recap: Day One in Photos March is definitely one month I always look forward to, and I contribute that entirely to SXSWeek - Austin's favorite time to show some love to film, music, and technology. Buried into that schedule are four days dedicated to music, and it is in those four days that I truly live. Given here is my perspective of South By Southwest. SXSW One Helluva Recap: Day One (artist name leads to site & all songs are right click - save as): [...]

So with about 2 weeks left 'til my finals begin, all I can say at this point is that I'm nowhere near ready. And during these times, I'll ask God why he didn't bestow me with some tangible talent ; I think I would have been fairly happy with being a celebrity gossip blogger earning crazy cash or one of the extras on Slumdog Millionaire ( I would've fit in really well!) . Until then though, I would just have to study my ass off, although the stuff that I'm learning is thankfully [...]

Full SXSW Coverage for Live Concerts and Exclusive Performances I'm back home in Portland after four days at the SXSW music festival in Austin. I was ready for the following to end: beer, bad drumming and Facebook updates. (Admittedly, I fell prey to two out of the three). On the other hand, I wasn't quite prepared for the reality check that accompanies a return home. The strangest aspect of this year's festival was the excitement I felt leading up to it. And I wasn't alone. From emails to texts to [...]

The Phenomenal Handclap Band - Testimony NewYork's The Phenomenal Handclap Band (principally Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand) freewheel through half a dozen genres and style on each track while still managing a sultry funk. For their self-titled debut, released in June through Friendly Fire recordings, they've drafted in members from bands as diverse as TV on the Radio, The Dap Kings, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Honeycut, making this an act to keep an eye on. HT to The OMCD , who caught their act at SXSW last week. [...]

The Radio Room stage is not really an appropriate setting for a 20-member musical collective. Although only eight members of The Phenomenal Handclap Band were present for Wednesday night's SXSW performance, they were packed like sardines on the long narrow wooden stage. Amanda Tomme and Laura Marin, who shared primary vocal duties, stood center stage and whose silky vocals drifted over a steady backdrop of disco-funk dance beats. The crowd ate it up, dancing and cheering all set long. Even during Marin's silly attempt at rapping, which was more chuckle-worthy than cheer-worthy. [...]

Just a quicky today. Firstly, can I ask (not that I imagine this mumbo jumbo gets read much) that anyone sending music does it through my dropbox now pretty pretty please? As it stands I'm 1500+ emails behind and doubt I'll ever catch up so doing that makes everything HEAPS easier for me to listen to tunes being submitted. I feel really bad for having to neglect so many emails but there's just no way I can process it all. I do still love you though. All of you. Except SXSW. Fuck off with your 300 [...]
SXSW has begun! I knew I was off to a good start this morning at 4:45 a.m. when the cabbie came to pick me up from my house to take me to the airport, took one look at me, started playing air-guitar, and said "You're the girl from that one band." Then, in the backseat of his car, and despite being on a mere two and a half hours of sleep, I just couldn't help myself and had to establish my cred by correctly identifying Bad Brains on his iPod. This comment was rewarded by him asking if he could [...]

The Phenomenal Handclap Band: NYC's electro-pop mad scientists. This eight-piece band, doesn't do much handclapping but more beat-dropping and face melting. Their recording sound is huge; they have power in numbers. NPR's All Songs Considered Podcast (too much love for NPR today) recently featured the band, hailing them as a top prospect at this year's SXSW. Hence, the motivation for our post. Stark contributing writers, Max Verrelli and Liz Wiest, caught The Clap (oh yeah, the name is ripe with puns) at Adidas Originals House Party awhile back; they had this to say about a [...]
![You Can Thank Esquire For Solving Your SXSW Scheduling Issues [Nine Acts Less Interesting Than The Oak Ridge Boys]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1590216_lg.jpg)
Say what you will about Idolator (especially in the comments section, please), but one thing we don't do around here: the dreaded listicle slideshow. In a really odd combination, Esquire 's website has a slideshow of "Ten Bands Set to Break Out at 2009's SXSW Festival." To spare you the trouble of clicking through 11 panels (there's an ad midway through) just to scoff at the magazine's choices, a list of their somewhat strange choices are below the cut, and we take it a step further with YouTube clips. Take that, Esquire! [...]

Hype Machine and Music Slut SXSW PartyThis lineup is one of the best that I've seen, and what's with the Taco Cabana sponsorship this year. So random....We've got 13 artists on two stages. We've got free Sailor Jerry's Rum, Sweet Leaf Tea, Taco Cabana (all while it lasts) and a free Southern Comfort Happy Hour. We'll also have free goodies from Gelaskins (while they last). Come kick it with
Funkadelic DJ Collective. Oh Yeah! Under the table and dancing. That s where I plan to be when I hear The Phenomenal Handclap Band at SXSW. This NYC band is so unique that I can t even begin to categorize them...they just bombard your senses with a Mac ...
