Portland's The Dandy Warhols did their thang during their two hour performance at the Fillmore last Wednesday night in support of their eighth studio album, The Machine . Druggy, buzzy, tunes played over faded lights. The psychedelic, alt-rock, lo-fiers featuring singer Courtney Taylor, guitarist Peter Holmstrom, drummer Brent DeBoer and looking-hotter-then-ever keyboardist Zia McCabe (whom did not bear her bare breasts as in prior performances) maintained their vibe going on two decades. Playing a lot of new material but naturally highlights were tracks off their earlier albums including "We Used to be Friends," "Horse Pills," [...]
I Love This City was my first electro dance festival of this scale and it was quite the colorful adventure. There were three stages staggered around Shoreline Amphitheater, each one cracking out jams, with crowds almost as entertaining as the DJs. Walking around, it felt like I was apart of a circus or masquerade wonderland full of neon spandex and euphoric faces. First, I hit up Steve Aoki. The man knows how to keep the kids moving. His beats were entrancing, so as I crept closer to the stage I picked the wrong (or right) place to stand [...]

Michael T. McGreevey, saloon owner and baseball fan, lived the classic American success story. Born the son of an Irish immigrant day-laborer, McGreevey opened his first bar in 1894. His establishment soon became the headquarters of the Boston Royal Rooters, the rabid and riotous fans of Boston's professional teams, the Boston Nationals, also known as the Braves, and the Boston Americans, later to be known as the Red Sox. We don't know when McGreevey hung the first photos on the walls of his saloon, creating one of the first sports bars in Boston, but by 1916, he had hundreds of [...]

I love both of these bands, but in an arena-no thanks. Don't get my wrong, the show was very good it just wasn't my cup of tea. The Arctic Monkeys didn't play "Fake Tales of San Francisco" which I thought was a too cool for school move. The Black Keys sound better in a bar, smaller setting where their music builds on the ambiance. It is hard for me to write something because it's never worth it to be critical. I love Arctic Monkeys, but it was only towards the end of their set did they "bring it."
Photos of Ryan McGinley's photos by G. From "Animals" by Ryan McGinley New art trend: Why have one exhibit when you can have many exhibits? Lately, I've been seeing the same artist having multiple exhibitions simultaneously at different galleries within the same city (and often a bonus exhibition in another city). Photographer Ryan McGinley is riding on that curve as he's got two exhibits in New York currently. Team Gallery is hosting two separate exhibitions from McGinley - "Animals" and "Grids." [...]
St. Vincent brought her amazing talent to the Fox Theater on Tuesday night. It was the end of my 2012 Fauxchella coverage. It was a long, but rewarding three weeks, which left me with some great shots, a few sleepless nights, and plenty of great memories. I couldn't think of anyone more fitting to end with than Annie Clark and her band. Her stage presence carried the right amount of madness and wit, and by no means overshadowed her superb songwriting and impeccable musicianship. Annie Clark was both commanding and calming on stage; she grasped the audience with [...]
The Fillmore is quickly becoming my favorite venue in SF for one simple reason: the lights. As a photographer, really a visual person in general, the lights, their interaction with the musicians onstage and the fans offstage, can turn a great set into a fantastic show. I love giving in to that moment when a great band is playing, the audience is into it, and then the lights twist just so…to make a simple moment, memorable. And last night was on point at the Fillmore. Great lights covered the stage as Wild Flag raged. Wild Flag is a rock-star studded indie [...]
I only was able to catch the last song of SBTRKT's Coachella performance this year, as they played at the same time as Miike Snow. It was a tough decision, but I knew I would be covering their show at The Independent as soon as I got home on Monday. They did not disappoint. SBTRKT is primarily recognized as a solo act. Aaron Jerome started in the London club scene, gaining recognition as a prominent DJ. Things changed however when he decided to begin recording his own material, as Jerome added recording mate Sampha to record vocals and perform during their [...]
Félix Nadar was the pseudonym of Gaspard-Félix Tournachon (1 April 1820, Paris – 23 March 1910), a French photographer, caricaturist, journalist, novelist and balloonist. He took his first photographs in 1853 and pioneered the use of artificial lighting in photography, working in the catacombs of Paris. Around 1863, Nadar built a huge (6000 m³) balloon named Le Géant ("The Giant"), thereby inspiring Jules Verne's Five Weeks in a Balloon. Although the "Géant" project was initially unsuccessful Nadar was still convinced that the future belonged to heavier-than-air machines. Later, "The Society for the Encouragement of Aerial Locomotion by Means of [...]
